I pushed open the car door and started running. I heard Jake's door close, but I'm too thrilled to turn around and see if he's following me.
"Eryn, just fucking stop! Where are you going?"
What is he saying? How can I stop? No way that's happening!
"Eryn!"
"It's him!" I screamed, turning around, but still running. "It's fucking him Jake!"
I watched as his features first scrunched up in confusion, and then slowly loosen, as realisation dawned on him.
"Shit!" he said and started running towards me. I turned back around and continued my pacing.
"How'd you know?" he asked, catching upto me and gasping for air.
"I don't know. But I just did! Everything inside me was screaming it was him! It should be him!" I blurted out, my excitement passing out with it.
Jake suddenly grabbed my arm and stopped running.
"What are you doing Jake? Let me go! He's standing right there! I've to go see him!"
"Use your brain, Eryn," he said, his tone dead serious. "He might not remeber your mom. To top it off, he's the CEO of a famous company. Look at the cameras and bodyguards surrounding him. You won't even be able to get close. They'll just brush you aside as a commoner."
"It's worth a try," I said, shrinking in what he had said.
"What are you gonna say to him, huh?" he asked sarcastically. "That you are the daughter of a woman who he got pregnant in high school? Will he buy it? And look at the crowd! He'll deny it to keep his rep. Just think it over. We'll find some other way."
I didn't reply. He's right. How can I prove myself? I'll just be tossed to the side.
"We'll wait till night," he replied looking at my dad.
"Why?"
"We'll stay in the same hotel as him," he replied looking at me. "As close to his room as we can get. You can pass through walls right?"
I nodded.
"That's how I got in your house."
He scowled.
"Yeah, right. So that's what you're gonna do today. It's the perfect plan. Thank God for your powers!"
It was my turn to scowl.
"I don't think-"
"Come-on let's go," he said grabbing my shoulders and pushing me forward.
I gave in. He really knows how to handle me well. But before the man I had wanted to see for such a long time disappeared, I cast a one last glance at him.
He looked so cool and.. smart, adressing people before him, posing for the cameras, yada yada. Before I turned away, our eyes met for a second. And before Jake pushed me to take a turn, I saw his eyes growing wide.. But before I could process it, the elevator door closed..
***********************
I don't think this is a good idea. I might freak him by suddenly jumping out. Maybe I should head back. It's not too late to go back to our room and snuggle under the comfy covers of the bed. It does seem like a better option. Maybe I should just-
I froze.
The lock on the front door clicked open filling the darkened room with the light from outside. I took a step back. Whoever had entered closed it, making the room dark again, and quickly as that happened, a switch was flipped and the room flooded with light leaving me face to face with Ethan Huskley!
"Um, hi?" I said silently shifting from foot to foot.
I didn't think it would be this awkward. Just forget that! How can I suppose anything about meeting a man, who's my dad, whom I've never seen before?
He rubbed his forehead with his hand.
"What do you want?" he asked, a slight irritation in his voice, which is more than enough for me to dig a hole and crawl into, never to surface again. But I held my ground anyway.
"You're not gonna call security and tell them to take me away?" I asked raising an eyebrow. That should've been his first move, right? A total stranger was standing right in front of him!
"And how do you expect to explain to them how you got in?" he asked, his voice sarcastic.
A smile tugged at my lips.
"How'd you know it's me?"
He shrugged off his coat and walked over to the coat hanger.
"How did you know it's me?" he countered, hanging his coat.
I shrugged.
"There was a kind of pull. And it felt like everything inside me was screaming that it was you."
"Me too. Downstairs when I saw you."
"Oh!"
"Why are you here?"
He has to ask me that after all these years?
I scowled.
He chuckled.
"You'll have questions. Take a seat," he said, walking over to somewhere. "Do you want anything to drink?"
I shook my head.
"Suit yourself. I'll be right back."
I nodded.
I've finally found him! I can't believe I'm with him right now! I-I -
"You do have supernatural powers, if that's what you're wondering," he said taking a seat across from me.
"No, that's not what-"
"Your mother told me she was pregnant. I hadn't seen her since, so I thought she went with an abortion. I tried reaching out to her, but I couldn't locate where she moved to-"
"That's not what-"
"You belong to a race of super humans. They posses super natural powers. Each one will have a power unique to only them. I'm a fire user. I control fire, I can make it. Your mother knew. I had told her about it. I loved her. I- that's not relevant here. This is supposed to be a secret. Our race exists among these humans. Out of every thousand random human, one of them will be one of us. I think that's pretty much all the basics. Did I answer all your questions?"
I shot him a dry look.
"What?"
"I wasn't meaning to ask any of those."
"Oh! What did you wanna ask then?"
"Nothing actually," I said looking down. "I just wanted to see you."
He didn't reply. We sat in silence for a while.
"So, uh, what kind of user are you?" he asked.
I smiled. It's nice to know my dad is an awkward person like me.
"Um, I don't know."
"What can you do?"
"I'm capable of telekinesis, burning things and walking through walls. I haven't tried anything else. I'm too scared to find out what else I can do."
He remained silent a while.
"You're a rare one. A rare case. You're one in a million."
Okay I didn't expect that. I had thought I received powers from my dad. Now he's telling me I'm something else. Can this day get any more freaking?
He stood up.
"Where are you going?"
"I have a meeting. I'll be back after half an hour. Call that boy over too. Your boyfriend, is he? Not bad. I'll tell the security to let him in."
He chuckled at my expression.
Is this it? Is it finally over? I got what I wanted all along. I met my dad. Did I get answers to all my questions?.... No there's one more.
"Wait!" I called out as he gripped the door open.
"What am I then?"
He smiled. I thought he'd turn around and go without answering me.
"You're a Gifted."
The door closed.
