Chapter One
Ghosts: A Walking Dead Story
Lilith knelt in the line with the rest of them. Her group, her family for the past year and a half. The people who took her in and cared for her after no one else would. The people who gave her a home. The people who were now probably going to get her killed.
The woman's blue eyes glanced at Luna, her pet wolf who was on the outskirt of the group, hiding in the tree line, waiting for her order. She was so different from when she first got her. She could still remember it.
"There is no fucking way you're keeping that," he said as Lilith picked up the injured wolf pup in her arms. She smiled and scratched between the pup's ears.
"Oh yes I am," she said with the biggest grin in the world. Lilith held out the wolf to her partner. "How can you say no to those eyes?"
The man smiled, his eyes shining. He kissed Lilith's cheek. "Oh, those eyes are impossible to resist."
The woman shook the memory out of her head. A voice snapped her out of her thoughts as her blue eyes looked up. Lilith's silver blonde hair fell in her face as she looked to the man in front of them. Behind them were at least a hundred men, each with a gun. There was no way out of this one.
"Are you ready to meet the man himself?" Simon asked her group. Lilith's eyes went to Rick, who looked around frantically for a way out. Then her eyes went to Maggie, very pregnant but also very sick. She needed a doctor now. They had to time for this.
The door to the RV swung opened. The silhouette of a man came out.
"Y'all pissing your pants yet?" a familiar voice called. Lilith's eyes widened as she looked up.
Lilith leant against her car, now out of gas and useless on the run from the zombies. She smoked a cigarette as she sat on the hood, shooting an incoming zombie in the head. What she didn't notice was a man coming from behind. When a hand grabbed her shoulder, she figured that this was going to be the end, but aimed the gun at the intruder still. The man smiled a bit.
"Not a Walker," he said as he let go of her shoulder.
"That doesn't mean much to me," Lilith said as she cocked her gun, her eyes glancing at a weapon.
"Not an enemy either then. But if you're just going to sit there and shoot, you might attract some," the man said with a bit of a smile.
"Let them come," Lilith said smirking. "I got plenty of ammo and I'm pissed off. I'll give them more than what their bargaining for."
The man laughed at her as he shook his head. He threw his bat behind his back and held out his hand. "I'm Negan."
"Lilith, Lilith Manuel," she said as she shook his hand.
"Nice to meet you then Lilith... How about we get out of here? I've been wandering alone for a while now."
Lilith examined the man carefully and shrugged. She jumped off the hood of the car and slung her bag over her shoulder. "Why the hell not?"
No, no, no, it can't be, she thought.
"I have a feeling we're getting pretty fucking close...." The man got closer to the group, continuing his monologue. In her shock, all Lilith could hear was ringing in her ears. Her hands clenched to fists. Her blue eyes looked up as Negan held up the fearsome looking bat.
"This is Lucille, and she is fucking awesome!"
Lilith and Negan walked down the road, covered in blood and dirt. Both were slightly out of breath from their latest encounter with the Walkers. Lilith's blue eyes glanced at Negan's bat, now dripping with blood.
"So why do you call it Lucille?" she asked as she walked closer to him. Negan glanced at her.
"It was my wife's name... After all of this began," Negan said as he looked at the bat. "I did some terrible things to her while she was sick... She had cancer, and then she came back as one of those things. I had to..."
"I'm sorry," Lilith cut him off so he didn't have to finish. Negan looked at her and shook his head.
"Don't be. You remind me of her you know?"
Lilith smirked. "Oh really?"
"Yeah. Brave, smart, sarcastic... beautiful."
A soft blush appeared on Lilith's cheeks as she opened her mouth to say something. Before she could, she could feel Negan's lips on her own.
"And she's going to beat the holy fucking fuckity fuck out of one of you," he said as he looked around the group. Lilith kept her head down so Negan wouldn't see her face. Her breathing picked up. No, no, no, no...
"But who? I simply cannot decide. Wait I have an idea. Eenie meenie...."
"Miney mo,"Lilith said as she looked through the clothes in the complex. She had almost jumped for joy when she found a place that hadn't been raided. She could not believe she would finally get clothes that didn't smell like it's been inside a Walker stomach.
"Hey Lilith, I found something for you," Negan said with a large smile. Lilith turned around to see Negan holding up a piece of black, lacey lingerie. Lilith rolled her eyes.
"Ha-ha, very funny," she said with a bit of a glare.
Negan's eyes narrowed. "I wasn't joking. You would look so goddamn sexy in this number," he said as he went forward and grabbed her hips.
Lilith laughed softly. "Hm... You didn't say anything about needing lingerie last night," Lilith teased. Negan opened his mouth to say something before there was a loud crash. Suddenly, a hoard of Walkers started into the entrance.
"Catch." He stood in front of Glenn.
"A." Maggie.
"Tiger." Carl.
"By." Rick.
"Its." Rosita.
"Toe." Abraham.
"If." Sasha.
"He." Lilith.
As she felt that damned bat pointed at her, her blue eyes glanced up. Negan had started to the next person in the line-up before doing a double take. He froze as he looked at the girl in front of him.
It was impossible. It was Lilith. Her hair was longer and wilder than before, but still undeniably Lilith. Her face was fuller, no longer able to see every bone in her body from lack of food, but still undeniably Lilith. Her blue eyes looked up at him with angry fires.... Which was undeniably Lilith. His brown eyes narrowed at her.
"How?" he growled.
As more and more Walkers filled into the mall, their hiding place was looking less and less appealing. They both had to get out of there as soon as possible, but Lilith didn't know how.
"Look at me," Negan said. Both Lilith and Luna looked up at Negan. "We're going to have to run for it."
"We'll never make that," Lilith hissed.
"What other choice do we have?"
Lilith let out a soft breath and nodded. "Alright... Alright... On the count of three."
One.
Two.
Three.
And they ran.
Of course, Luna stayed closer to Lilith as they made a break for the exit. Negan whacked a pair of Walkers in the way as he made the way to the door. Lilith was almost there, lagging a little behind Negan, when she tripped.
"Negan!" she yelled as he turned. A Walker went for her leg, but Luna was there to rip it apart, blood spraying everywhere. Negan looked at her sadly before running out of the door. Lilith's heart stuck in her chest as she turned around and drove her knife in an approaching Walker's head. She managed to run to a small room with Luna and locked herself in. She let out a sob.
"He left me."
The circle got quiet. Lilith glared up at the man, not saying a word. Negan set his jaw as he dragged her up by the arm, so that they were face to face.
"I. Said. How." He growled.
"With no help from you," Lilith said and spat in his face. Her chest raised and fell unevenly. Negan laughed as he wiped the spit from the side of his face.
"Oh, you are going to regret that," he laughed and threw her to two of his men. "Her in the RV now."
As soon as the two men took her by the arms, Luna jumped out from the trees, knocking a man down.
"No!" Lilith yelled. Luna growled and backed away, standing in front of Lilith, snarling at Negan.
"Well look what we got here!" he said with a smirk. "Aren't you a badass? All grown up? Now Lilith... You better call her off before she gets shot."
"Down Luna," she said quickly. The wolf reluctantly sat, almost glaring at the man.
"Both of them in the RV now," he told his men again. As she was dragged back, Luna following her, she saw Negan turn back to the group.
"Well... back to it," he said with a smile. He raised his bat and slammed it down on Abraham's head.
"No!" Lilith screamed.
Lilith didn't know how long she was in that dark closet. After what seemed like hours, or maybe days, the Walkers outside the door got quiet. Luna wrapped herself around Lilith to comfort that girl who was now crying her eyes out. After a few minutes of silence, the door slowly opened. Luna growled and Lilith aimed her pistol at the man.
"Whoa," he said as he threw his hands up. The man had very red hair with a red beard. He smiled a bit as he looked at the woman with a smirk. "Calm down there feisty."
"Who are you?" Lilith growled.
"I'm Abraham," he said.
Lilith closed her eyes as she whimpered. She could almost hear the bat hitting Abraham's head. Again. And again. And again.
Silence filled the air. Hours past. She heard the door opened. She looked up to see Negan, Blood dripped down Lucille. Abraham's blood. Her friends blood. Negan looked down at Lilith.
"We need to talk," he said.
