Y/N pov

Being born to the wealthiest family in town and being the only daughter of the Howards, I should have spent hours at the shopping mall on a gloomy Saturday like this, but in the end, my destination was the library.

The library is located in the center of the town, not too far from where I live. When I pushed the door open and entered, the librarian immediately recognized me and greeted me warmly.

"Y/N! You dropping by again? I'm sorry I forgot to keep that book for you last time..."

I shivered slightly as I felt a chill down my spine, even though I was standing so close to the heater.

      "It's okay, Rosalie."

I walked over to the bookshelf, the cabinets towering like a wooden wall. The smell of moldy paper from old and new books mingling together, I snorted, very softly, muffled sneezes as I passed the dusty bookcase. My fingers ran through each book and traced the titles written on the back of them, pondering for a moment until the sound of turning pages distracted me, soon I realized I was not the only one in the library this Saturday afternoon.

I admitted I was curious, raised my head, peeked through a crack in the bookshelf, my eyes fixed on the back of a guy, I guess he must be over six feet tall. That man was bending his head down, in his hand was a half opened book.

Then suddenly he lifted his head from the book and leaned back slightly. Under the fading lights, I could vaguely see from the bridge of his nose down to his jawline, every angle was perfect. Even though I could not see his full face, I bet he was very charming.

Maybe he couldn't see me, but somehow he felt the stare behind him. He then closed the book and strode toward the counter, his dark hair fluttered with each movement. Rosalie, who was fidgeting behind the counter, hastily straightened herself, giving him a bright smile and sweet voice.

      "Please stop by again?"

      "Certainly."

Beyond my expectation, he responded to Rosalie's beaming smile with a friendly grin. From this angle, he looked utterly captivating, I wonder if I had seen him anywhere in town. I was still in daze until he was out the door. Regardless of his appealing look, it was unlikely that I would ever see him again and this had nothing to do with me.

Saturday night, like any other weekend, my parents will be dining at the town restaurant as an annual date. They still maintain the habits since marriage such as having dinner together or going on holidays for months. Indeed, I sometimes envied the love that father and mother have for each other.

Now I was alone at home, the large empty space around was covered in silence. Was I actually the only one in my house? Damn, so quiet. I pulled out the book rented from the library this afternoon, turned the first page, skimmed a few headlines, and then there was a knock on the door.

      "Yes?"

Turned out I was not all by myself.

"I'm just stopping by to get the laundry done and Miss Y/N, would you like to have dinner now?"

Sandra, carrying a plastic racket, peeked into my room, her now stained white apron tied around her waist. I glanced at my phone and shook my head.

"It's still early, I'll take a shower first, just take a rest after finishing the laundry, Sandra."

The maid smiled and left with a plastic racket full of dirty clothes. I continued reading for more than fifteen minutes when the phone rang, the screen showed Tiffany's name, my bestie, obviously. I swiped to the right and put on my earphones, setting the book aside.

"Y/N, sorry I had to cancel our date this morning, but you know, Jake just got back from Norway and dad kept demanding that I pick him up..."

I tilted my head, pursed my lips, and then half-amused, half-angry spoke.

"I expected it, because you kept praising him last Friday."

"Come on, he was so fine, anyway, I'll make it up to you tomorrow..."

I shrugged and then laughed, Tiffany really never changes. Last week she was cuddling with a guy in the hallway, this week she immediately ran after Jake Gwinnett, an intern from Oslo, her brother's best friend. I stopped complaining and started planning for the next day. I didn't even need to ask for Tiffany's opinion since I knew her too well that she would pick some noisy places with loud music and heavy drinks.

"Y/N, if we go to the mall again this time, it would be best to call Daniel and Mike over!"

Mike Thompson is currently my boyfriend, we both enrolled in the same university, he was two years older than me and obviously popular among the other students since he was a member of the college baseball team. His fellow, Daniel, kept wandering around him all the time.

Tomorrow it will probably rain, the weather forecast last night also mentioned a heavy storm in the next few days. I was planning on spending time somewhere warmer than wandering around the center of the town. Maybe the small pub to the west, Medleys, would probably be a relevant choice.

      "Then see you there."

I hung up the phone, laid back on the bed and then out of nowhere, all the thoughts came back to me, when I closed my eyes, it became clearlier, about the contents of the book from the library, the coming storm and even his bright smile.
