Man's POV
My heart jumped when my phone started ringing.
The ringtone indicated that it was my dad calling.
Please let it be good news... please let it be good news... please let it be good news... I prayed over and over again as I fished out my phone from my pocket.
"Hello," I said nervously. I couldn't think of anything else to say.
"Son are you standing or sitting?" I heard my dad say without any preliminaries.
"Neither," I replied. "I'm walking towards my car in the parking lot."
"Let's wait until you're seated inside your car then," my dad said.
"Why does it matter whether I'm sitting or standing or walking?" I asked, starting to get nervous again.
"Because what I'm about to tell you might knock the wind out of you," he replied.
Oh. My. God.
I half ran half walked towards my car.
"Wait, on second thought, don't go to your car," my dad said. I noticed that his voice sounded hoarse with emotion. What was it that he was about to tell me. "Go back to your unit and sit on your couch."
"Dad! What is it that you're going to tell me??? I need to know right now!!!"
"Just listen to me, son. Be a good boy now and go back to your unit," my dad said. "Call me when you are back in your unit, sitting comfortably on your couch."
With those words, my dad cut the call. I had no choice but to go back to my unit. Whatever it was that I had planned to do earlier would have to wait.
I raised my arm in greeting to the receptionist at the lobby. If she was curious as to why I came back so quickly after I had just left, she didn't show it.
I took the elevator to the executive suites of the newly built hotel that I was the manager of and waited till I got to my unit.
Even as I was entering my unit I already started calling my dad.
I walked over to my couch and sat on it and waited for him to take my call.
The nerves on the back of my neck were so tight that I was actually feeling a dull pain in that area.
"He's cheating on you," were the words I heard from my dad before I fainted.
