Third Person POV
"I was just wondering if your company was hiring staff at this time," Win said to Bright after Bright took his call.
Bright gasped at Win's question.
"You have got to be psychic," Bright said, thanking the heavens silently for taking away the stress of having to look for a replacement for Ben's vacated position.
"We do have an opening for a team member in my work group," Bright couldn't hide the happiness and relief in his voice.
"What kind of work will I be doing if I get hired?" Win asked.
"You will be helping with editing documents for a client," Bright replied. "I am the group leader of a five member team. You will be working closely with me."
"Will your company hire me even if my work experience in that area is a bit limited?" Win asked, sounding a bit anxious.
"No worries," Bright replied. "I will take care of training you and giving you the orientation for your assigned tasks."
Win let out a breath of relief.
"When do you want me to come in for an interview?" Win asked.
"Will Monday work for you?" Bright countered.
"Sure!" Win replied happily. "Can you text me your company location?"
"I can do that, but before I do so, tell me, are you by chance free this evening?" Bright asked.
"I'm afraid not, sorry," Win said in a regretful tone. "My boyfriend is taking me out to dinner this evening."
Bright suppressed the feeling of disappointment that rose in his chest.
"Is he the same guy for whom you were going to cook dinner that evening when I crashed into the back of your car?" Bright tried to keep his voice casual.
"Yes," Win replied.
"Alright then," Bright said, still keeping his voice even. "I will text my office address to you now. See you on Monday, Win."
"Thanks, Bright," Win said. "See you Monday."
Bright rested his arm on the wheel of his car and lowered his face onto it.
He was just now realizing how much Win really meant to him. He was now sorely regretting that he had ditched Win in the hope of getting back together with Ben. And now Ben was with his Uncle Mangosteen and Win was with his new boyfriend and he was left with no one.
Never had Bright felt so alone than this very moment. He pressed his face against his arm to keep the tears from flowing.
Then he raised his head and said firmly to himself, "Stop, enough of self pity."
Bright tried to remember his World History subject back in high school. If he remembered right it was the government of the United Kingdom who had started the motivational phase "Keep calm and carry on" to keep up the morale of the English people during World War II when major cities were anticipating air strikes from the enemy.
"Keep calm and carry on," Bright said over and over to himself as he drove through the busy thoroughfare of Bangkok to get home.
The weekend at the beach with his team members kept Bright preoccupied for a while as he focused on working with his group to meet the client's deadline.
On Saturday night his team called it a day and went to relax by either drinking at the edge of the shore or swimming and enjoying the waves lapping against their body.
Bright swam for a while. Now that he wasn't focused on work, his mind was now idle as he floated on the water.
A feeling of intense loneliness washed over him, as a strong wave literally washed over his body.
Bright decided to swim back to shore.
He declined the invitation of two of his team members to join them for a drink.
He took out a Heineken bottle from the ice box and told his team members that he was going back inside the cottage that they had rented for the weekend.
At the cottage, Bright removed the lid off the beer bottle and sat down on the top step of the cottage.
He took one long swig and suddenly felt a big fat teardrop fall onto the back of his hand after he set the bottle on his lap.
Shit, his tears were coming in full force now.
He stood up and walked inside the cottage and removed his wet swim trunks and put on his regular denim pants.
His thoughts flew to Ben. He wondered if Ben was in Tokyo by now. He wondered if Ben was lonely for him. Bright had this sneaky feeling that Ben was not really happy with his Uncle Mangosteen. How could Ben get along with someone who was old enough to be his uncle.
Without bothering to wipe the tears from his face, Bright pulled out his phone from his pocket and tapped on Ben's number and tapped on the video call feature.
'Please answer, please answer, please answer' Bright prayed silently while he waited for Ben to take his video call request.
Bright let out a loud gasp when he saw a shirtless Ben immersed in a bath tub.
Suddenly Ben's face disappeared and Man's face replaced Ben's image.
Bright's face turned bitter when he noticed that Man was shirtless as well and also immersed in the same bathtub where Ben was.
Without a word, Bright tapped on the red X on the bottom of his phone screen to end the video call.
