Ben's POV

"Ben, what is it that you're not telling me?" Bright had asked me while I tried to assist him out of the company clinic.

I struggled to keep an expressionless face. I didn't want Bright to know that I was planning to file my resignation to our department head later in the day. I was afraid that if I told him before I submitted my resignation letter, that he would try to convince me to stay.

P'Man had told me that I had no time to waste. The hotel he was managing was in dire need of a Supplies Manager. I could not afford to give a two weeks notice. I had to resign from my job within today and pack my bags and fly to Tokyo ASAP. He could give me an orientation over the weekend and then I could start on Monday. That was how quickly they needed a replacement for the previous Supplies Manager who had suddenly quit.

"Well?" Bright prompted me when I kept silent.

"I might not be able to go to the beach with you and the group this weekend," I hedged.

I felt guilty upon seeing him look crestfallen.

"And why is that?" he asked after a brief silence of him trying to wrap his mind around what I had just revealed to him.

"I need to attend to something urgent over the weekend," I said. Technically I wasn't lying to him. "Something personal." I added.

"And you'd rather not talk about it," Bright said the words before I could.

I nodded, unable to brush away the feeling of guilt in my chest.

"Very well, then," Bright said in a resigned tone.

I continued to assist him to get to our work area.

I walked him to his cubicle where he hung on to my neck until he could properly sit behind his desk.

"Thank you," he said, looking up at me from his chair.

Then he added, "I don't know why, but I'm suddenly getting this feeling of foreboding, like something bad or sad is going to happen to me before the end of the day."

"Nothing of that sort will happen to you," I said firmly, trying my best to suppress the guilt feeling that rose in my chest once more.

"Are you sure of that? You promise me?" Bright was now whining like a school kid.

I couldn't give him the assurance he wanted so I just said, "Let's start working before we fall behind on our deadline."

"I already anticipate that we will fall behind on our deadline since you won't be able to work with our team over the weekend," Bright grumbled as he turned his computer on.

"I'd rather not talk about it right now." I said to him.

"Why not?" he insisted on getting an answer from me. "Was that your Uncle Mangosteen who called you just a few minutes ago?"

"There you go again," I scolded him. "You keep on coming up with new nicknames for P'Man. We might have a bit of an age gap but he's not old enough to be my uncle."

"Toe may toe, toe mah toe, po tay toe, po tah toe," he singsonged with a smirk.

"Stop it, Bright," I scolded him and walked away to go to my own work cubicle.

I could hardly focus on my work as I constructed in my mind the words that I would put in my resignation letter.

Finally, before the end of our work day, I had managed to type out my resignation letter and printed it from my own printer that was just beside my computer.

"What is this?" our department head, Mr. Naravit, asked as I handed him the envelope that contained my resignation letter.

"I have an urgent matter that I need to attend to that will take months to resolve," I said nervously. "I thought it best to resign than to take a long leave of absence."

Mr. Naravit did not say a word, but instead opened the unsealed envelope and took out my resignation letter. He quickly read through it and then looked up at me from his desk.

"If by the time you're able to resolve your personal issue, if your position is still vacant, or if there is a position open for you in the company, will you consider returning?" he asked.

"Of course, thank you, sir," I said sincerely.

"It's sad that you can't even stay until I'm able to find a replacement for you, but it is what it is," said Mr. Naravit. "I wish you the best of luck."

"Thank you so much for your kindness and understanding." I said, my eyes starting to smart, because I suddenly felt that I was going to miss my work place.

I sneaked out of the building without Bright noticing.

I ran to the parking lot to the spot where I had parked my car.

I pressed my remote to unlock my car and started the engine while I walked briskly towards it.

I was in the act of opening my car door when a hand landed heavily on my shoulder.

I turned around and gasped loudly.
