Ben's POV
"Ben cannot talk to you right now. He is busy discussing wedding details with his fiance."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
I knew that it was Bright that he was talking to because I recognized the ringtone that I had assigned to Bright.
Even after Man had swiped my phone screen to end the call, I still could not believe that he would say something like that to Bright.
"What?" Man fixed me an innocent stare as he pushed my phone back into my pocket.
"Whoa! Whoa!" I moved away quickly when I felt his hand go too deep and slightly reached my intimate area.
"What?" Man asked me again, his innocent stare still on his face.
"Man, don't pretend that you didn't say what you said to P'Bright!" I scolded him.
His innocent but pleasant expression changed to annoyance.
"Okay, Bright is Phi to you while you just disrespectfully address me as Man," he protested.
Before I could reply, he continued, "Are you forgetting that I am ten years older than you?"
That issue. That age issue. I had tried to overlook and forget that age issue because it was what P'Bright had always teased me about. Our age gap. I always had to defend the age gap between me and Man to P'Bright. Why did he have to mention it now.
"The reason I don't address you as phi is because I'm trying to forget about our age gap." I blurted out without stopping to think if what I was going to say would start a fight between me and Man.
Man's expression turned into a sad and disappointed one.
After staring at me for a long time, he said, "Yes, maybe you should start looking for someone younger, someone closer to your age, someone like Bright fucking Vachirawit."
With those words, he turned away and started walking back into his parents' house.
"Wait!" I ran after him.
He did not stop. He just kept on walking away.
"Please!" I managed to reach him and grabbed his wrist.
He stopped and turned to face me.
"Please what?" he said.
"Please... " I swallowed hard. "Please... phi... P'Man?"
"You don't have to call me phi if you don't want to," he said coldly.
"But... but I want to... starting right now," I said, my eyes pleading to him.
He removed my hand from his wrist.
"No," he said. "Don't, Ben. I can tell it's not what you really want to do. Listen, I promised Tay, my assistant manager at the hotel in Tokyo that I will hurry back because he doesn't want to have a heavy backlog by the time I get back."
"What exactly do you mean?" I asked, my heart dropping.
"It means I am flying back to Japan tonight," he replied. "I already have my plane ticket."
"Can I take you to the airport?" I asked, my heart dropping lower and lower.
"You don't have to," he replied.
"But I want to!" I insisted.
A long silence ensued as he thought it over.
Finally after what seemed like forever, he nodded.
"Okay," he said, walking up to the front door.
I followed him inside.
His parents were still in the living room when we walked in. They both looked at us with happy and hopeful faces.
"So is everything okay now?" his mom asked.
"Yes," Man answered.
"No," I replied at the exact same time.
Man's dad placed his hands on either side of his hips, his elbows jutting out authoritatively.
"Tell us the truth, both of you," he demanded.
"I ... I ..." how was I going to say it.
Man was in the act of picking up his carry on luggage from a corner of the living room. He straightened up and stopped to listen to what I was about to say to his father.
