Third Person POV
"I've never been unfaithful to you, P'Man," Ben said before taking a long sip from the glass of chilled orange juice that Man had handed to him.
"Look me in the eye, Ben, and say it once more and be sure to pronounce each word very clearly," said Man.
"You heard me!" Ben said defiantly, refusing to look Man in the eye. "Are you saying I'm lying to you?"
"I'm not saying that. I just want to get at the truth," Man stated firmly.
"If I tell the truth, you are going to hurt me," Ben said in a low voice.
"When did I ever hurt you, Ben? Physically or emotionally?" Man asked, making a step towards Ben.
Ben set the glass of orange on the oblong table in front of the couch and stood up.
"I think I should go home now," Ben said but Man set down his own can of beer beside the glass of orange juice and took hold of Ben's arm.
"I promise I won't hurt you in any way if you tell me the truth, Ben," Man pleaded. "Did anything happen between you and Bright when you spent the night with him last night?"
Ben looked down at the floor.
There was a long silence before he said, in barely a whisper, "We kissed, that's all."
"It was just a kiss, you just kissed, that's all," Man said, saying each word bitterly.
Then he let go of Ben's arm.
"You are free to go, Ben, I won't hold you back anymore," said Man.
"Are you breaking up with me?" Ben asked, his eyes starting to glisten with tears.
"Yes, I am," Man replied firmly, turning away and walking towards the dining room. "Please close the front door after you."
Ben stood in his spot, not able to decide what to say or do next. He stood in his spot for a very long time.
In the meantime Man had gone to the wine cabinet in the dining room and had taken out a bottle of red wine and had started pouring some of it into a wine glass.
He drank all the content of the wine glass in one gulp and then sent the glass flying across the room.
The glass hit the wall with a loud crash and sent all the broken pieces and shards scattered all over the floor.
"P'Man!" Ben ran to the dining room and found Man leaning forward placing his weight on his hands that were resting heavily on the dining table.
Man was breathing heavily.
"Why are you still here?" he asked Ben.
Ben did not reply but placed his arms around Man from behind.
"Please don't break up with me, P'Man," he pleaded. "I told you earlier at my workplace that I still love you very much."
"Yes, and it was all a lie," Man said bitterly, straightening up and moving away from Ben.
Then he took Ben by the hand and led him towards the living room and towards the front door. He opened the front door and gave Ben a gentle push.
"Go now, Ben," he said, his voice quivering a little. "Just go."
Ben wanted to stay but he could sense the determination in Man's voice. He knew at that moment that he did not stand a chance of convincing him otherwise.
Suppressing a sob, Ben stepped out of the front door and into the driveway.
Without looking back, he stepped into his car and eased it out of the driveway, almost crashing into the front bumper of Man's father's car that was pulling into the driveway.
Ben pressed hard on the brake, his whole body shaking like a leaf in a windy storm.
Man's father stopped his car and stepped out of it.
"Ben! What's going on? What are you doing in my driveway?" Man's father's questions came one after another without a pause.
