Chapter 5 | Lake Party
After a good 7 hours of boring introductions and several syllabuses from your new classes, you finally reached the end of the day. You nearly jumped out of your seat from pure joy when you thought about hanging out at the lake with your new friends. Now of course, no one sane would suddenly, completely trust people who they had just met, but Sam had a car. They say 'stranger danger' and no doubt no one can get stranger than Sam, but at this point who cares? Besides, if you were quite honest, Mikaela was way too pretty to be dating Sam for the guy's looks so she was probably into dorky guys. You would never assume so, because she was recently dating one of the football boys last year, but maybe she finally found a more stable taste in men?
Whatever the reason, it wasn't really in your place to be asking so you decided to shove it to the back of your mind. You slung your backpack over your shoulder as you ran out of the classroom when the bell rang. You basically skipped to your bike near the racks and saw Sam drive near you. A honk came from Sam's car as you were pulling your bike out and your jaw literally dropped. Your eyes lit up and sparkled at the sight of his 2009 Camaro with its glorious yellow paintjob and black racing stripes.
"Holy shit, Sam this is your car?!" You asked with an excited giggle.
"Yeah, what do you think?" He asked with a smug expression.
"It looks freaking awesome!" You said as he moved to help move your bike into the trunk.
Now instead of climbing into the car like a normal person, you decided to admire it. You circled around his Camaro, giddy smile plastered onto you face as you hesitantly moved to run your fingers across the hood of the car. It wasn't until you spotted the red symbol on the front and your hand gently brushed the familiar red metal that you had been sucked into another vision.
Your body tensed, your heart dropped but beat quickly in your chest, blood rushing to your head as your eyesight blurred. Before you knew it, you were in a grey warehouse, so eerily familiar that it made you want to cry. You moved to look around but you could see nothing but the wall in front of you. That same symbol painted in large bright red on the wall, and as you were finally able to look around, you looked down. In your hands was the same metal that you had just seen. It felt sleek and smooth, as if it had just been polished, but you could feel the same chips in the sides from battles that you had never seen before. Your eyes watered as you were overcome with intense grief and guilt from a place beyond yourself.
"(Y/N)!"
You were called out of your trance again. Your eyes were ripped away from the red symbol on the front of Sam's car as you looked up, seeing Mikaela coming from the front entrance of the school.
"Sorry I took so long guys! The councilors were taking awhile with my new classes." Mikaela said before she looked at you with a worried expression. "(Y/N) why are you crying? Are you ok?"
You hadn't even realized the tears gently rolling down your face and onto the hood of the yellow Camaro. "Y-yeah I'm fine! I just spaced out!" You said as you quickly wiped them away and clambered into the backseat.
After a few minutes Mikaela climbed in and as she turned around, her expression dropped.
"No- Please, Sam don't tell me he's coming with us! (Y/N) is here, you know how he is!" Mikaela said with a disappointed tone.
"Oh, c'mon babe. Miles isn't that bad, besides I can always just tell him to knock it off." Sam said with a nervous smile. "Besides he's my best friend I can't just ditch him."
"Hey you guys, it's fine I don't mind." You spoke up as to avoid any conflict between the couple.
"Hey, what's up guys! Thanks for giving me a ride to the party with you guys!" Miles said as the dirty blonde-haired kid came down the school steps and jumped into the back with you. "Ohhh, who's this Sam? Are you a friend of Mikaela's?"
"Don't Miles." Mikaela said sharply, cutting the boy off quickly before he shut up.
It was after you laughed nervously at Mikaela's quick reaction that Sam finally decided to jump into the driver's seat and you all headed for the near by lake party.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Pulling up to the lakeside, everyone clambered out of the car to see the stunning view of the lake reflecting sunlight off its surface. You hadn't been here since early last year, so it was nice to be back after so long. You pulled your backpack from the trunk and made your way next to Sam and Mikaela, but for some reason your eyes couldn't help but linger on the scratched up yellow Camaro. It wasn't until they called for you to follow that you had snapped out of your trance.
"(Y/N)! C'mon were heading to the party!" Mikaela said as she moved towards the masses.
"Are you sure this is such a good idea?" You asked as you ran after them. "I mean- didn't Miles say Sam almost got beat up the last time he was here?"
"Hey, I did not almost get beat up!" Sam said as he gave an offended expression. "I was just weighing my options!"
"Right, sure bro." Miles said rolling his eyes.
"At least I wasn't the idiot climbing the damn tree!"
"Boys!" Mikaela yelled as she gestured to the party. "Stop bickering, we're here and you're making a bad impression on (Y/N)."
"It's fine Mikaela, besides... I'm pretty sure the glares we're getting from those football players means we're not welcome anyways." You said as you watched Trent and his group of jocks snickering and glaring at your friends.
"Well look who showed up, the nerds and the little bunny." Trent called out as they walked by. "Oh? And who's this new addition to the group?"
"Back off Trent." Mikaela snapped.
"C'mon Bunny, you downgraded so much. Come back to me. I mean, Sam? Of all the nerds you could have chosen?"
"He's more of a man than you ever could be." She said walking away.
The rest of your group followed behind her, a few of her girlfriends waving hello from afar and cheering as she told Trent off. First it was Sam, hand in hand with her, Miles running after them, and after one more hesitant glance at the jocks you turned to join them. You weren't entirely sure what happened between them but you guessed it was best to just let it go.
You all moved to the picnic table next some of Mikaela's friends, Miles was intent on hitting on the other girls only to get laughed at, while you sat next tp Mikaela and Sam. At first you kind of zoned out, not really caring but mildly listening to everyone else's conversations. It wasn't until you heard Sam and Mikaela asking you questions that you snapped out of it.
"(Y/N), want to come with us?" Mikaela asked.
"Sure." You said instinctually.
Of course you didn't know what you were agreeing too but oh well, it couldn't be that bad right? What you didn't know was that you were going on a late night drive with Sam and Mikaela to the fireworks show near the outskirts of town. Something of a night you would remember forever.
