Chapter 4 | Comes Life

Fall, September 1st, 2008

"I got it mom don't worry! I'll be careful!"

"I swear, (Y/N)- Don't get run over!" Your mother shouted after you as you quickly pulled your bike out of the garage and made your way to school.

It was the beginning of your junior year in high school and so far it had all been very boring. Everyday was the same, every class, club meeting, or football game was the same as the day before. But now it was junior year. You could drive, all you needed was a car. You could go to parties, all you needed was an invite. You could land your dream college, all you needed was a scholarship. You could go to prom, all you needed was a date.

You had your bucket-list for junior year ready to go before you even finished sophomore year, and you were determined to finish it.

This year you would go to at least one game of every sport. This year you would join as many clubs as you wanted. This year you would study harder than ever. This year you would actually go out of your way to try and find a date to prom. But most importantly, this year you would finally make some decent friends.

Quite honestly, you didn't have too many friends. You liked a smaller group and enjoyed when you could all hang out together with no problems. You avoided the drama as much as possible and kept out of other people's lives, because that was really not any of your business. But after one of your good friends moved and the other graduated, the rest of your friends just stopped hanging out. It fell apart over the summer, and you knew that there was no point in trying to fix it when you got back to school.

So here you were, arriving at the front gates of your school, bike parked and locked into the bike racks, and staring at the familiar name of the school. You had been here for two years already, counting on three, but for some reason you never felt as if you belonged here. You wanted to do so much more, you knew you could. After all, the lives you lived before had done some pretty amazing things.

The lives you had lived before this one were remembered for some reason. You remembered them and they made you laugh, cry, or angry when you never even knew the people in those memories. You had access to only a few strong memories with emotions tied deeply to them, and every once in a while, you would have those flashbacks in, seemingly random moments. But each time you remembered them, they touched you and you felt almost as if you had experienced them yourself, and in a way you did.

Nonetheless, you knew there were a lot of gaps between your past lives' memories, but you cherished them anyways, it was as if forgotten tales were being told to you, and you alone. When they first started, you were scared, the first flashback you had gotten was when you were 4, but you could barely remember it. You remembered spacing out during thanksgiving dinner at your grandparents place, you were a bored 4 year old, and the only child there at the time. It had happened spontaneously, a few incoherent words were spoken between the adults, and you caught a name. A plain and old sounding name, one that was easily looked over. It was then when you were suddenly submersed into another world.

Your small toddler body stiffened, eyes wide, and mouth agape as the memory played in your mind. Shouts. Screams. Bullets pelting against metal. And a mix of odd numbers and letters that you couldn't understand. You looked down at your hands and they seemed covered in blood, a gun in your right hand and the ground near you covered in red.

After you let out a deafening sob, you broke out of your trance and cried into your small palms. You scared the daylights out of your family and they had rushed to your side. It wasn't until later that they had realized the visions you had were from lives you had previously lived, with emotions so deeply burrowed into your soul that it had carried on to your next life.

Of course none of your friends believed you, especially when you were younger. Therefore, you kept your visions and memories to yourself and talked to your family if the memories had become to emotionally taxing. But you still had to explain yourself if you had gotten a flashback in the middle of school, so you and your family decided to make up a fake mental illness for you. It was one of the few things that people avoided you for, but you didn't mind it.

Finally, your feet began moving. After standing in front of the school for a good 10 minutes, you entered the front gates and remembered how much you dreaded these crowded hallways. You had spent the last week trying to find the most efficient pathway to your new classes to make sure you didn't bump into anyone you didn't want to. But nothing ever goes the way you'd like it to.

Maybe it was fate? Maybe you would finally meet that one person who could turn your life around and show you the better things in life? Nope.

He crashed into you with his girlfriend wincing behind him. Both of you tumbled to the floor opposite ways from each other, both of you landing harshly. Luckily you hadn't gotten your books just yet so there was nothing to drop. He began to scramble along as he dusted himself off and stumbled over his apologies.

"Sorry about him, he's always kind of a mess." His girlfriend said, holding her hand out for you to take. "Name's Mikaela, that's Sam. You are...?"

"(Y/N), (Y/N) (L/N)." You said as you took her hand and she pulled you up.

"I am so sorry." Sam said as he began to ramble.

"Hey, hey it's fine. It's the first day back, accidents were bound to happen." You said shrugging.

"Anyways, nice to meet you (Y/N). Where you headed?" Mikaela asked.

"Library. I have to check out my books still." You said shrugging.

"Mind if we come with you? Sam still has to turn in his biology book from last year." She said rolling her eyes.

"Hey! It was underneath my bed, when B-" He stopped short and clamped his mouth shut. He and Mikaela had sworn to the government to never speak of the incident and Sam had nearly slipped up by talking about Bumblebee.

You had brushed it off, assuming that it was none of your business before you all headed towards the school's library. After a bit more of chatting and walking with them before class, you had all decided that you would head to the lakeside to get to know you a little better. You had lucked out, you swore you did, because you had planned to be friendless for at least another week before you had gotten to really know anyone. But Mikaela was so welcoming and Sam was so dorky that you didn't mind hanging out with them and a few of their friends.

But you weren't an idiot, you knew that Sam was going to say something he wasn't supposed to when you had first met them, and you couldn't help but feel the need to pry. But you supposed that would have to wait for another day. You had a 'back to school' lake party to get to.
