Strange Dreams

Lacey was having the strangest dream, she could hear people talking. A man and an older woman. The way they spoke was odd, old timey and formal, and they were talking about her. She was so tired though, and surprisingly warm despite the chill stone. She burrowed he head into her sleeve, drawing the blanket closer to her face. The man had begun to sing, his voice a deep soothing baritone. The thick wool smelled of horses and smoke, with a hint of cedar. She inhaled deeply, the unfamiliar scent pulling her closer to consciousness.

She opened her eyes just as a flash of lightning illuminated the tomb. There was a man standing just inside the doorway! But that was impossible, she was rather tiny and had just barely squeezed through the chained doors! This man was at least six foot and broad shouldered. He was dressed rather strangely, Grey pants and a grey jacket with golden buttons and yellow braiding upon the shoulders and sleeves. He wore a sword on his left hip and a revolver on his right. The sky darkened before she got a good look at his face. Her initial impression was he was square jawed and young, with a shock of black hair. The sky darkened again and she was left in darkness. Trying desperately to control her breathing as panic nearly made her cry out. She feigned sleep and waited for the next flash of light to glimpse the stranger who was just a few feet away from her.

Again the thunder came, followed once more by a flash of light. The man casually turned his attention to her, his blue eyes almost ethereal under a slash of dark brows. They made eye contact and he smiled. What should have been a friendly smile seemed somehow maniacal to her, after all she was locked in a cemetery at night and just awoke to a strange man standing over her inside a crypt. Lacey sat up, scrambling free of the blanket and a coat that had been draped over her shoulders. So that's why she hadn't been cold.
