42. No Better Options

It was another weekend of Michael and Maureen fighting, Simone busy with Rodney and Jackson, and Troy hanging out with Nick. Cully couldn't stand being at her house more than she needed to. That meant she spent more time with Chase. Too much time.

It was loud in the room. All the boys shouted at the TV. Cully looked at her phone, ignoring all the cheers and booing. She never liked sports except watching Chase play.

She and Faye still weren't really talking since their fight at Homecoming. Savana got really distant from both of them. She assumed Savana was sick of Cully and Faye fighting and didn't want any part of it. But part of her wondered if Savana was hiding something from them.

It frustrated Cully that the more time she spent with Chase and his friends, the more annoyed she became. All he and his friends wanted to do was play video games or watch sports. She wasn't interested in either, so she sat silently most of the time.

"Babe, how long is this game?" asked Cully. But he didn't hear her. All the boys stared at the TV in anticipation.

"Babe." She was about to ask him again, but suddenly all the guys stood up from the couch and shouted again.

"Chase!" She shouted over them. They all looked back at her and sat down. Even his friends were intimidated by her.

"Yeah, babe?" Chase turned his attention back to the game.

"How much longer is this?" Cully huffed.

Chase sighed. "You know, you don't have to sit here and watch too."

"But I want to stay with you." She pouted and put her hand on his thigh.

He smirked at her, scooted closer, and kissed her cheek. "Just a little bit longer, and then we can do something else."

"Okay." Cully smiled. She didn't want to stay there, but going home would have been more miserable.

A few minutes later, she got up and headed to the bathroom. After she finished up and walked down the long hallway back to the living room, she overheard some of Chase's friends talk to him.

"Does she keep your balls in her purse or what?" One of them laughed at Chase as they pointed to Cully's pink purse on the glass coffee table.

"Shut up." Chase leaned back on the couch.

"You're at least getting laid, right?" another boy asked.

Reese rolled his eyes. "Does it matter? She's a nice girl, leave it."

"Yeah, she's been clingy lately. But she has some problems at home. She can stay here if she wants." Chase explained.

"If I were you, I'd make sure she puts out if she wanted to stay at my house all the time." The first guy said.

Chase hesitated. He and Cully didn't have sex yet. Nothing more than making out and touching each other. "It'll happen soon." He told his friends and then turned back to the TV.

Cully was surprised that his friends talked about her like that. They always seemed so nice to her before. And why didn't Chase defend her and tell them to mind their business? When Chase said it would happen, what did he mean? They hadn't talked about when or if they would have sex.

She stormed into the living room and grabbed her purse from the coffee table. "I'm leaving. You guys can watch TV all day. I don't want to be too attached." Cully spun around and headed for the door.

After a second, Chase realized she overheard them. "Babe, wait!" He stood up and ran after her.

Once outside, Cully ran to her car and drove off. She fought off tears. Chase stood in his doorway and watched her leave. He wasn't sure what to do next.

Reese shouted to him, "Just leave her be for a bit and call her later!"

Chase nodded his head and sat on the couch. They continued watching the game. He wasn't sure how he would make it up to her.
