In fact, he had commented about his suspicions from the beginning, starting with how he had overheard Briar, on several occasions, talking to herself, and it was unusual. But when showing him to the laboratory in the basement, he had marveled at the blueprints laying upon the tables, and watched in awe as Casper placed the beaker into the McFadden invention, before disappearing inside.

When Casper stepped out from the enclosed space, stumbling as if he had forgotten to walk, his eyes had locked with Briar's— and perhaps that was her happiest moment. Although he was different, alive now, he was the same.

When the boy insisted that Briar remain in his room and selected the one next to her, Casper found, that very night, that he was the opposite of Briar in the sense of sleep. He was not dreary at all, and found himself standing in the doorway of her bedroom.

But as the girl had a dream of her parents meeting Casper, as if they were in an alternate dimension that allowed them to do so, she couldn't see what he saw.

But Casper smiled, because although he had lost the senses of his past ghostliness that allowed him to see much more than what was truly there, he could still clearly see Briar Hasson's parents as they stood beside her bed, smiling down to their daughter, then to him, as they faded into the dark.
