Chapter 10
Hey, gurls!
I am SO SORRY for making y'all wait this long! Life has just been really crazy.
ANYWAY, let's keep going.
*Kevin POV*
As Avi led me to the table, I started to panic inside.
What if they don't like me? What if they laugh at me? What if Avi suddenly decides to change his mind, and makes me go away?
That last one freaked me out even more than the other ones.
But I didn't have to worry for long.
"Guys," Avi said once we were at the table, "this is Kevin. Is it cool if he sits with us?"
The reaction was immediate.
"Sure!"
"Go ahead!"
"Pull up a chair, Kevin!"
I smiled, sitting down next to Avi and the tall blond boy that I recognized as Scott.
"So, Kevin," a short, dark-haired boy asked, "are you new here? I haven't seen you around before."
I looked down, blushing slightly, and Avi shot him a look.
"Mitchell Coby Michael Grassi!"
"What? It was just a question. And I thought I told you not to call me that!"
Mitch looked like he was about to add something else, but Scott quickly pulled him close to him and kissed him. (I'm assuming he was just trying to shut him up.)
I turned back to Avi, raising an eyebrow.
"Sorry," he said, "They always do that."
I shrugged, not knowing what else to say.
"So, Kevin," the girl in front of me (Kirstie) asked, "What do you like to do for fun?" (A/N: If anyone says "Avi", they get brownies.)
"I like to read and write," I replied, "I also like music."
"Are you in Choir?" Scott asked, having finally pulled away from Mitch.
"Yeah," I said softly, "I'm in your class."
"Speaking of!" Mitch said quickly, "Anybody else have any ideas for the song?"
At that moment, everyone started talking loudly about their accomplishments (or lack thereof).
I sighed as their attention immediately shifted, and I seemed to be almost forgotten.
Suddenly, I felt a hand in mine, and I looked up to see Avi looking at me.
Are you all right? he asked, gently squeezing my hand.
Yeah, I replied, smiling slightly.
Then I heard Beyoncé say, "What if you guys wrote a song about how music makes you feel? I mean, all of you like music, right?"
At this, I felt the entire group's focus shift, and I was glad to see that my focus was greatly aligned with theirs.
"Well," Scott said, "Singing does help people feel better, especially after breakups and bad news."
"Music also helps people relax," Mitch added.
"Music helps people put themselves back together," Kirstie said, grinning.
"Music even helps bring people together," Avi said, squeezing my hand again, "no matter where they're from or who they are."
"Those are all good ideas," said Todrick, "but there's something missing."
At that point, I decided to speak up.
"Guys," I said, and they all turned to face me.
I backed up slightly, intimidated by their gazes, but Avi kept a firm grip on my hand.
It's okay, he told me mentally, and I took a deep breath, letting the words out.
"Look, guys, music has been a bit different for me than for you. It's a way of life... no, living. It's a way of being yourself. It's a way of... losing control."
After I finished speaking, the table was completely silent.
Then a single voice broke the silence.
"I don't know what you've been told..." Scott sang softly.
"But music makes you lose control..." Mitch added, his high voice harmonizing well with Scott's.
"That's it!" Kirstie said, "That's the song."
Beyoncé and the others who'd already found their songs all smiled at us.
"So," Scott said, immediately rising to the challenge, "I can do baritone. Mitch can handle the high notes. Kirstie..."
"I can help with harmony," she interrupted, "Three-part always sounds cool."
"And Avi can be our bass," Scott finished.
"This is going to be so great!" Melanie said with a smile, "Everyone will think that you're perfect!"
"Wait!" Avi said, "We're missing a beat!"
Everyone's smile immediately dropped.
"Darn it!" Scott said, "I forgot about that."
"We could always find someone who plays the drums or something," Mitch said, "I think I know a few guys..."
"I'll take care of it."
Everyone's head whipped around in surprise, but nobody was more surprised than me.
Because the voice that had just spoke- the voice that had saved the entire group...
It was mine.
A/N: So, how'd I do?
I know, I know, you guys are mad at me.
But DON'T WORRY!
There will be an update coming...
BUT I require something first:
10 comments and 10 votes.
Otherwise, I shall make you wait even longer than last time for an update! *evil laughter*
Luv you all! *blows kisses*
