Hellcat P2
Jo POV
As music pumps through my ear pods, I roll my neck and assess the building. The three story abandoned hospital is just another eye sore in the already deserted part of town where I live, and it is supposedly haunted.
The hospital looks intimidating enough, but I've been in a few locations which have looked scary, and turned out to be dead ends. I only hope this isn't another.
Glancing back at the car, I smile and pet the hood. "I'll be back for you soon Betsy, try not to miss me when I'm gone."
Of course it's absurd talking to a car, but it can be a lonely night when I'm investigating. So I get what conversation I can. Pulling out my ear pods, I turn off the music on my phone and slip them into my bag for later.
I take the trades entrance in, if you don't know what I mean, then it means I go in through any door, except the front, because it's heavy bolts and thick padlocked chains are enough of a warning to keep people out, however there are none on the back and previous intruders have been so kind as to break a door open.
Activating my chest camera, I am careful to record the damage, as well as take the number of the property owner from the beat up sign hung on the wall, when I leave later, I'll give them a call. But considering they are not here now and I couldn't see any trespassing signs..... I slip in.
I started my paranormal career a few years ago, posting online and setting up a website where fans can interact, as well as post suggestions and locations for me. It took a while to build a following, but with careful planning and monitoring, I built a pretty welcoming community. Of course, every now and then I get the odd abusive comment, but it's doused by the overwhelming support of the followers.
My equipment isn't as high tech as most, but it's enough to see me right and get any evidence I need, from small video recorders that stand on tripods to a slightly larger recorder for myself, along with digital recorders and motion sensors.
After a whole sweep of the building to ensure nobody else is here or that any animals have moved in, I set up and pull the back door closed, ready to hit record when I hear voices.
Freezing, I try to determine whether they are paranormal or real life, I soon get my answer when the front door rattles and opens. Ducking into a corner, I press my back against the wall and listen.
"Dude, look at this place..." One man says. Someone lets out a low whistle as others join in with the comments and wonders about the building.
"So... this is the hospital guys, glad you're here to take a look." A man with a deep voice says.
I glance towards my camera sat on the floor, just peeking around the corner at the men. Trying to gauge where they are is harder when it's a new building, they could be closer than I expect and if I am 'allegedly' trespassing, I'm looking at a stint with the cops. I crouch slightly,
wondering if I can reach out and snag it towards me and into the darkness. But as I work up the courage to do it, a heavy black shoe lands near my camera.
A gasp slips out as I clamp my hand over my mouth, my heart thuds in my chest when a hand reaches down. Peeking around the corner, I see the person and instantly narrow my eyes.
The douche from earlier..
He picks up my camera and looks at it, before setting it back down. I freeze when his eyes shoot over and lock with mine instantly.
Preparing for my cover to be blown, I stand up slowly and lower my hand, losing my shocked expression for a narrowed eye glare. Douche, I think his name might have been Zak, smirks before turning on his feet.
"Right, let's get interviews started... The trees outside look like the perfect backdrop. Aaron, set your camera up, Billy you do disclosure forms and Jay.."
"I'll do the mics." Another man chirps from around the corner.
Zak nods in approval before clapping his hands together. "Let's get started."
I wait until the voices disappear before I step out of the corner and pick up my camera.
"Nice to see you again." Twisting, I see Zak sat on a large black case, his phone in his hand.
"What do you want?" I ask dusting the dirt off my shoulder.
"I could ask you the same thing. What are you doing? In here?"
I lift my camera "I'm here to-" I pause wondering if telling him my intentions was the best thing to do.
"Go on..." He draws.
"To take photos of the building, I'm a photographer." I lie.
He chuckles before turning his phone showing me his screen "So you got twin called Jo too? Parents couldn't think of another name? Website says she's into the paranormal.."
"You believe everything you read online?" I reply.
Zak returns a smirk "Says she's investigating Unison Hospital tonight, which is weird cause this is Unison Hospital and it's already been booked."
"Is that so?"
"Yeah. By my team."
"Too bad I got here first." I answer folding my arms, it's a difficult task to do with a camera, but I make it work.
"Thought you were just a photographer?" He points out making my lip twitch. "Look, I'm not here to be an ass, but we've paid for this location for the night, so you're gonna have to leave."
I open my mouth to refuse when Aaron bundles through the door.
"Za- Hey Jo!" He beams dropping the solid black cases to bound over to me. I receive a face full of his black shirt as he hugs me. It's a weird moment, for a split second, he feels like an old friend. "You joining us tonight?!" He asks pulling back to look at me.
I go to tell him the change of plan and that they will be the ones going tonight when Zak jumps in "No. Jo is leave."
Determined to be a pain in the ass, I shoot Aaron a smile "Of course I'll join you."
"Awesome!" Aaron grins, disregarding Zak's protests entirely as he yells out to the others that I'm here.
When Aaron bolts out the front door to get some equipment, Zak pushes off the case and stands toe to toe with me.
"Fine. You'll stay. But it's my team, my location and my investigation." He growls out, visibly irritated.
I smile "You keep telling yourself that." I slide past him as Aaron bundles back in like an excited child. "Now what is in these cases?!"
