Chapter Twelve

Foxy though that she would sleep like a princess. She didn't. Every few hours, she woke up, scared, expecting one of them to peer at her with a wicked smile. Yet, they never truly appeared.

When dawn broke, Foxy woke up on the floor. Despite the bed feeling like a cloud, she preferred the earth. The cold marble soothed her restless body.

Foxy stood up, stared outside the window at the sleeping city. Sleep, in itself, was a luxury. Foxy made her way to the washroom, scrubbing herself clean, her teeth, and then wearing the fresh clothes that they had given her again. She tucked the loose shirt in her pants. She combed her hair. She looked better. She smiled at her appearance.

Having nothing to do in her room, Foxy decided to leave the room. At first, when she opened the door, she expected her to be locked in. But she was not. When she peeped outside, the corridor of the floor was completely empty. Foxy walked outside her room, to the elevator that the lady had taken; Foxy pressed another floor button. It didn't take time for the elevator to respond, and the it opened, to showcase similar corridor as her floor. She stared at red and golden carpet, the brown doors to each room, the grand light in the middle of the corridor. It was lavish.

Foxy closed the door of the elevator. And then pressed another button. Again, it opened to another floor similar to her's.

She went to multiple floor, until, she found her elevator stopping in the hall, which lead to the restaraunt that Kez and her had eaten. Foxy glanced at the desk, the lady was not there anymore. She walked around. This was the first time she was actually looking at the hall. It was big. The theme of the hotel was red and golden. The light on the ceiling was huge and pretty. The carpet was red. There were plush chairs on regular distance. Foxy found herself sitting on one.

"Hi, miss, do you need something?"

A lady had appeared. She wore a warm smile, and a uniform. Foxy decided to pretend like proper girls that she imagined.

"Some food, please."

The lady laughed kindly, "Do you want to see the menu?"

Foxy felt herself going red. Would that mean  she would have to read?

"Yes, please."

The woman nodded and then went somewhere. When she returned, she held a tab similar to the one that Kez had given Foxy. "Here you go."

Thankfully there were images in the tab. Foxy ordered her food in. She smiled as the lady left her. She didn't know that they served food in the hall too. Where else did they serve food? This hotel was nice.

"Enjoying the hotel, Foxy?"

Foxy gasped as she stood up. Only to find Idris staring at her with her smile.

"I was hungry." Foxy lied. She was not. She wanted to feel proper.

Idris nodded. She looked around to see if Kez was nearby. She preferred the large man. He took a seat opposite to her, on another plush chair. He smiled, looked around, and then met her gaze.

"Kez said I should spend some time with you."

No attachment, Kez's voice echoed in her mind.

"Did he?" Foxy held her chin up. She was not going to act needy or clingy.

"Yes, apparently."

"Did he send you here?" Foxy asked.

"No. He's asleep. Kez cannot wake up early."

She nodded. At that time, the server appeared with her food. Foxy eyed the food greedily as it was placed in front of her. Idris watched her. The server turned towards Idris, "For you, sir?"

"Just the mango juice, please."

The server nodded and left. Foxy pulled her plush chair near the table, grabbed a fork with her left hand, and tried to eat the food. She could not eat it the way she had done in front of Kez. Idris was a different man.

Idris watched, but didn't say a word. After a while, he said, "Does it hurt?"

She shook her head.

"Why did you take me with you?"

He shrugged. "You do not belong there."

"Is that it?"

"If I tell you that I don't know myself, will you believe me?" Idris watched her as she struggled put the food in her mouth. Most of them dropped on her feet. She just needed practice. She gave up on the food and grabbed her drink. She took a sip. It was delicious.

"That will be honest." She said.

"Is that what you want?" Idris smiled. "For me to be honest with you."

Foxy had learnt his game, a bit, "Does it matter what I want?"

He smirked, amused, "No."

"Then why should I tell you."

He nodded. "Fair game, Foxy. You are learning quick."

He looked at her, appraised her. His eye didn't fall on her lost thumb. "Does the bag you carry have anything important?"

"It has my stuffs." Foxy said meekly.

It had her thumb, her bed sheet, and her old clothes.

"Do you want those things to be with you?"

Foxy nodded. Those were the only things she owned. She could not part with it. Not yet. She was not sure of her new life to part with her old life.

He nodded. It didn't matter what she carried with her.

She stared at her food with longing. It was cooling down.

"Eat it, Foxy." Idris finally said.

She looked up.

"Finish it. Go to your room. Get ready. Meet us here in half an hour. We have to leave."

She nodded as he stood up. She was glad he was leaving. Then she could devour the food. But she had one more question to ask.

"Where are we going?"

Idris smiled. "Kez told you about Isa? We are going to meet him."

She nodded. She was curious and tad bit nervous. What had Kez said about the boy? He was like her. Few year older. She never got along with people her age. Was he her test? Did she have to impress him? They held him in importance. That was clear. He had already been mentioned twice in one day.

Foxy inhaled, then started eating her food with her bare hand. Propriety be damned.
