II.

Haley wakes up in the middle of a peaceful field of flowers at dawn. She smiles and sits up, stretching away her sleepiness. The area around her is peaceful and quiet. It appears as if no one is around for miles.

She calls out for her friends. She remembers the party last night and knows she traveled with three of her closest friends to and from it. She remembers leaving the party and driving home but can not remember anything after that. She assumes that her memory loss is from all of the alcohol she drank.

Through her quick survey of the area, she comes to the conclusion that she is alone out here. She stands herself up and walks in a random direction.

She doesn't know quite where she is walking to but she feels a sense of urgency to get there fast. Her heart rate quickens as her legs pump faster beneath her. The world around her spins faster as the urgency grows.

She comes upon the site of a car crash. The car is familiar to her. Very familiar. She walks slowly towards the rubbled machine. Though the scene in front of her is a terrible sight, all seems to be calm. The wind is blowing slightly causing the leaves to rustle quietly.

The area is tranquil.

Within the car, three figures can be seen. One in the driver's seat and two in the back. Haley quickly realizes that the figures inside are her three missing friends. All three of the girls are unconscious in the vehicle.

Suddenly, the sense of urgency she felt is understood. She rushes to the car to help her friends. She is able to reach right through the driver's side window to touch her friend Tracy's face.

But something is terribly wrong. Haley can not wake her. Despite her greatest efforts, Tracy will not budge. It is like Haley's touch does not even affect her.

Haley screams out for help. She realizes that she is unable to pull her friends out of the car and someone else is going to have to help her. Either that or someone will need to pull the girls out of the car themselves. But anything is better than sitting here doing nothing. Her friends are in trouble.

Everything around her seems surreal right now. It all feels like a bad dream to Haley. She connects some of the dots together.

This moment right now is not real. How else would she have ended up so far from the crash site unless this is a dream?

As much as she can try to piece this puzzle together in her brain, nothing will be able to prepare her for the grim truth.

Because this is no dream. This is no figment of her imagination. This is her reality now.

This is her life.

Haley sprints away from the scene of the car crash as fast as she can. She refuses to give up searching for someone to help her. She runs and runs with the hopes to find someone.

Anyone.

Haley feels like she has been running for hours yet she is no closer to finding help than she was before.

She comes to a road, just up a hill. She climbs the hill remarkably fast and grabs onto the hot pavement to pull herself up the rest of the way.

A short distance away, a car speeds towards her. Help.

She stands up and begins trying to flag down the driver with her arms. She jumps up and down and waves her limbs around wildly in the hopes of getting the driver to notice her and stop to help.

The chances of him stopping to help shrink as he gets closer and still fails to slow the car down even a little bit. The car seems to be going even faster now.

Haley repositions herself to the middle of the road. She stands herself on the solid yellow line   She figures if he can't see her now, he has to be blind. She continues waving her arms and yelling out for the driver. Her friends need help. She isn't going to stop until they've got that help.

But the driver does not slow down. Nor does he stop for her. Instead, his car connects with Haley in a head on collision.
