Monster

Okay before I start this, I'd like to say this one shot is totally based on a dream I had when I woke up this morning and for the sake of its beauty and amazing story, I am not changing ANYTHING that my dream was. Even Star and Marco were in my dream which is why I thought this was so epic. The second I woke up and recovered from the shock of how amazing this dream was, I went to writing. Again, I am not changing anything and writing this one shot as I remembered it and going off sheer memory here. Enjoy!!

...

It took her days. Star found herself in a tiring and most exhausting cycle. She wouldn't leave her room until it was finished. It was going to be a way that the monsters could be equal, a way they could somehow be treated just like Mewmans. This spell, she had been practicing, was going to change everything, she could feel it.

Her bedroom became her laboratory as she experimented with different magical spells. Portals laid shimmering and hanging on the walls, portals of different monster realms, yet she hadn't had a clue what she was doing anymore.

The hours began to creep into days and the days crept into weeks. No one dared disturb Star as she had told them not to anyway. It remained that way too.

Star, very quickly, became frustrated. She paced around her room, wondering what to do next and if she should even try. As she came to a halt by the mirror hanging on her wall, she slowly realized in her peripheral vision that something was off with her reflection. She dared to look now, taking in her own reflection with pure and utter panic.

Her face was distorted and ugly. Her nose was dark and slightly curved downwards as well as her face becoming a sickly white. Her eyes were a light shaded green too. It reminded her of the face of Ludo in a way. She figured she must have summoned a spell that had misfired and ricocheted, striking her back. The feeling of her stomach knotting and twisting together in a gigantic knot made her completely nauseous. She had no idea really how it had happened nor did she know which spell would fix it.

Aside from her face, she noticed how her hair had laid unbrushed and had grown longer than she had recalled it to be the last time she had taken a long, hard look in the mirror. She didn't understand how this could be so, yet now her hair was reaching her thighs. As for her favorite light blue-green dress, it had grown faded and torn, almost like she was tearing it apart herself. The top half of her dress had become almost like a crop top as her skirt was somehow shorter than before.

Then, the voices started. They were mean, low-toned voices too, mocking and laughing and chuckling. Star, whipping her head in every direction, had almost went mad while looking for the source of the noise and shadows that would belong to the intimidating voices.

Unable to make the voices cease, Star felt hopeless and unbearable sadness grip onto her. She covered her face with her hands and began to sob. She leaned herself up against the wall for support and that same moment, her legs gave out underneath her, plummeting her body to the floor.

...

Star had been in her own imprisonment for almost two weeks now and Marco was getting unsettlingly unnerved and uneasy for Star's health and safety. He came to visit her one particular night just to check up on her. He hadn't seen her leave her room in so long. He hadn't even witnessed her come out for a single meal, however, he figured her mother was the one who would bring her dinner when it was time.

Though, he hadn't as much as seen her face in over a week. It was secretly killing him. He had trudged casually up to her tower one night while heading to his own bedroom across the hall of the castle.

But, before he could even knock on her door, he overheard a small whimper and then a sniffle.

Star was... crying?

He decided to investigate for himself. He knocked, soft and unobtrusive knocks. "Star? Can I come in?" He asked. He waited a while, but no answer. She just kept on letting out muffled cries and brief hiccups.

Something in the pit of his stomach told him something wasn't right, that something was off. He took this gut feeling as an invitation to let himself in.

Marco turned the knob as slowly and steadily as he could. His first glance at Star's room had left him in complete shock and confusion. Her room was completely empty, no furniture, no single trace of anything. The room was dark, however he could still make out Star's shadowed figure in the room. Her body was curled up in a fetal position, occasionally letting out short loud sobs, obviously not caring if anyone heard her. She hid her face in her hands as well as her long, blonde hair.

...

Star knew Marco was standing right next to her now. She could feel him hovering over her. She didn't care if he heard her cries and couldn't bring herself to let him see her face so she didn't.

"Hey," He lowered his voice now, his tone reaching a soft and sympathetic tone now. "Star, it's okay. I'm sure we can find another way to help the monsters." Star didn't as much as say anything. She just sat there, sobbing unsteadily. After a while of not knowing what else to say, Marco began to reach a deeper level of his sympathy for Star, realizing it was too serious and beyond his control.

He bent down and keeled next to her this time, hoping to get Star's attention once more. He laid a gentle hand on her shoulder and spoke up. "Star, what's going on? Look at me... please."

This time, Star responded. She looked up. Instantly, Marco was taken aback. He jerked his hand away from her shoulder in shock. She looked like a... a monster. Marco composed himself by looking away. "Oh, woah, okay."

Star bowed her head down again in total shame. "I know." She mumbled. "I'm hideous."

To this, Marco spoke again. "S-Star, no. I-"

Before Star knew it, two strong arms had forcefully pulled her into him. By this gesture, Marco discovered that Star was not only shaking, but in a sweat. She continued to sob harder, knowing all she needed right now was him.

Star felt safe in his arms, feeling cradled in his warm arms. She nuzzled her face into her best friend's hoodie, taking in the sent of a fresh and clean hoodie. She savored the smell for a while.
