4. Halloween dance
I straightened the tie on my 40's military outfit, the suit hugging my skin. I finally mustered up the courage to ring up Stark, "hello?" He answered. "I'm ready," I stated, "can you send a ride?"
"Sure, Capsicle," he replied, hanging up. Tonight was the Halloween dance at Starks tower, so I decided to own up to the constant joke of me being an old man. 40's captain it is. About ten minutes later, my phone beeped, alerting me that the car had arrived. A sleek black limo, tires screeching to a halt in front of my small apartment building.
The still silence from the car ride finally ended when we reached the eardrum pounding that was stark tower. I lifted my eyebrows at the blaring music, hoping the entire night wasn't like this.
I stepped out, looking the shining building. It's window reflecting the night sky like a lake on a windless night. Once again, Peggy Carter was a beacon in a black and white film. She wore a 40's blood red dress, the Crimson gleam making her stand out in a brilliant way. She had her hair styled in a 40's curl. Each shiny strand glimmered as if a million stars had been trapped inside. She gave me a smile that outshone the full moon, "Steve," she breathed, looking me up and down, "I guess we had the same ideas,"
I shrugged, raising an eyebrow, "you can't go wrong with the 40's, huh?"
Linking our arms, a tall man in a suit opened the crystal doors. The gust of cool wind blew through my hair, the music becoming louder by a tenfold. Bodies pressed up against eachother like sardines in a can. People were dressed as everything. From bunnies, to Devils; lions and cartoon characters. I even spotted a few cacti and mustard bottles.
"Steve!" A voice called towards my left. Suddenly a giant bundle of white hair popped in my view. "Hey banner... You're a..." I trailed off, as Bruce straightened his lab coat. "A mad scientist," he explained, wiggling his fingers. I chuckled, as Peggy gave him a hug. "That's cute, you guys are matching! 40's huh? Suits you," he smiled. "Bruce! Steve!" A girl called, racing up to us in all black. She had a black nose and whiskers painted on, with a set of dark cat ears contrasted against her flame colored hair. "Nat you're a cat!" I laughed, and she rolled her eyes sarcastically. "Well aren't you a detective," she sassed, before taking Bruce's hand. "Come on, let's dance!"
I blinked and they were gone. "Well that was interesting," Peggy laughed, her eyes scanning the room. "Clint and Thor are over the- what the hell is Thor wearing? And who's that with him?" She exclaimed, her face furrowing up in laughter. We slid trough the mass of teenagers, trying to evade stray elbows and flying drinks. "Clint, are you a chicken?" Peggy asked unsure, causing Clint to groan. "Ugh no- why does everyone think that?" He sighed exasperatedly, "I'm a hawk,"
"Of course my friend, of course," Thor laughed, know turning to the skinny, black haired kid beside him. "This is my brother, Loki. We've decided to dress in our Asgardian clothes, it seems to look like a costume here," Thor chuckled, swinging his hammer aimlessly. "Hello mortal," Loki said simply, raising an accusing eyebrow. "Perhaps I can find some food that doesn't taste like garbage," he said, walking away with a slight scowl. "A bit prickly..." I murmured, in which Peggy snorted. "Seen Stark?" I asked Clint, who was stuffing his face with pizza. "By the DJ," he directed, gulping an enormous bite.
Never unlinking arms, Peggy and I made our way to the DJ's station, the speakers pulsating with every beat. "Stark!" I yelled, tapping his shoulder. He turned around in confusion, before leading me away. "Like the party? Great right!" He exclaimed, winking at a passing girl. He poked my tie jokingly, "of course you two would come matching from the olden golden times," he chuckled, giving Peggy a nod.
His outfit consisted of a regular tshirt, and jeans. The only difference was a red device on a single arm, reminding me of a certain someone. "Are you dressed as iron man?" I asked, tapping the metal arm. "You've got it," he said, with a slight nervous tick in his voice. I squinted my eyes at him, before letting it go. "I'll go get some punch, meet me there," Peggy chirped, before sashaying off. "Stark, I need you to do me a favor," I said quickly, stopping him from walking away. "What'd ya need, Capsicle?" He asked, using his new favorite nickname for me. "Play a slow song, from the 40's. I want to try to remind her of our first date cause... Cause I'm going to ask her to make it official," I begged. Tony's mouth went agape. "Oho! About time gramps! I've got you covered," he winked.
I found Peggy by the dance floor, chatting with Phil Coulson. "Peggy Carter, care to dance?" I asked, glancing at the dance floor. Just as our hands touched, the lights dimmed. Slow, 40's music breezed through the speakers, causing her face to light up. "Just like-"
"I know," I cut in, making her dress bloom like a flower as I twirled her. "Peggy... I wanna make us real," I confessed, pausing. "Be my girl?"
She nodded, wrapping her arms around my neck and planting a sweet kiss on my lips.
"May I have your attention?" Tony asked, silencing the room. "I know there's been some questions running about our latest hero. The person I'm here as today, iron man," he explained, looking down at the floor before giving me a glance.
"Except I'm not just here as him," he announced, causing murmurs to break through the crowd. He cleared his throat, then continued. "The truth is..." Tony said confidently.
"I am Iron Man,"
