Chapter 2

Kirke stayed in the trees with Bellona sitting on his back. Both of them watched from a distance as the wolves snarled and dug at the dam.  "Why aren't they out of there?" She questioned, hand resting on the handle of her sword while the other gripped the edge of the saddle.

Once she spotted them climb out, Bellona dropped to the ground, much to the disapproval of the dragon. Her sword was out with one swift movement, freezing as she spotted statues of friends of Mr. Beaver. This had to be the work of the queen.

"This is what becomes of those who cross the witch," Bellona turned swiftly, pointing her sword at the new voice. A fox stood at higher ground.

Mr. Beaver snarled. "You take one more step, traitor, and I'll chew you to splinters!" Mrs. Beaver hurried to hold him back.

The fox spoke calmly as he jumped to the ground. He claimed to be one of the good guys.

"You look like the wolves," Bellona spoke coldly only to be spoken over by Mr. Beaver.

"An unfortunate family resemblance," the fox assured them. Bellona quickly glanced at the siblings to see Peter blocking Lucy and Susan. She had to keep them safe and lead them to Aslan. "Right now we got to move."

Snarling and barking of the wolves could be heard in the distance. "What do you have in mind?" Peter spoke first.

Bellona looked up to the trees, able to make Kirke out. "It seems that we have the same idea." Bellona ignored the fox and shoved the siblings in the direction of the trees.

Kirke climbed down a bit before grabbing hold of the furred cloaks and placing each one on a higher branch. Bellona was grabbed last, she and Kirke staying closer to the ground. She wanted to be the first to attack the wolves if need be.

Wolves ran out of where the others had just come out of, surrounding the fox in the process. "Greetings gents," Bellona couldn't understand how the fox was able to keep this cool facade in front of the enemy.

Bellona's grip tightened on the sword as the fox was attacked by the wolves. She felt a harsh stare on her before loosening her grip. It was too tempting though to drop down and swing the sword around. Maybe leave one survivor as a message for the Witch.

"Your reward is your life," one of the wolves told the fox. "It's not much, but still." He chuckled. "Where are the fugitives?"

Bellona stared down at the scene before her. A tug pulled her closer to the tree and Bellona shot a glare at her dragon. He shook his head the slightest.

"North," the panting fox grabbed Bellona's attention. "They ran north." He was tossed to the side as the wolves ran off, heading north as the fox told them.

"Bell, help get a fire going," Mrs. Beaver ordered Bellona as they all started to climb out of the tree.

Bellona grabbed some wood that was around them before looking at her dragon. "Kirke," was said before the dragon blew a small flame to the small pile of wood. It was enough for everyone to sit around and to keep them all warm.

"Stop squirming, you're worse than Beaver on bath day. Or when I tell Bell to clean Kirke." Bellona shuddered while Mr. Beaver commented about it being the worst day of the year.

"It's a pain to clean you," Bellona muttered to her dragon as he shook his head before releasing a low grumble. "It's true," she mumbled while leaning against his body, staring at the fox as he climbed to his feet.

Aslan came to conversation and Bellona perked up. She always enjoyed hearing stories of him. "Like everything we ever heard." Bellona, for the first time since she can remember, smiled. "You'll be glad to have him by your side in the battle against the Witch."

"But we're not planning on fighting any witch," Susan told the fox and the beavers. Bellona looked over to Peter.

"Surely, you would at least help us," she spoke quietly.

"We just want our brother back." Peter's explanation wasn't satisfactory for Bellona. She huffed while leaning into her dragon, focusing her attention on the dancing flames before them.

It was much later in the evening. Lucy and Susan were huddled together sleeping. Mr. and Mrs. Beaver were curled up together, also asleep. The fox was long gone, on the move to gather more Narnians for the army. Bellona stared up at the night sky, unable to sleep. "How do you know him? Aslan?"

Bellona sat up a bit, surprised to see that Peter was still awake. "He's my father," she stated plainly. "I promised that when the time was right, I would bring the Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve to him."

Considering there was only one Son of Adam, Bellona was already doing horrible with keeping that promise. "He'll help get your brother back," she assured Peter while glancing over to him. "It's as they say, he's the true king of Narnia. He wouldn't leave one in the hands of the White Witch."

Silence fell among the two. "You may not believe it, but I do," Bellona told Peter as she looked at him. "You won't believe how much hope has been brought to Narnia."
