epilogue

Third Person POV
"Jimin, get in the car we're going to be late!" Mrs. Park yells as her son hurries downstairs in his graduation gown.
She takes a moment to admire how much he's grown, what a young man he's become in life. Jimin is already on the phone talking to Yoongi who has promised to save him a seat in the front row, and the pair continue to talk on and on as the family drives towards the school.
Graduation is a weird time of year. It's the end of an era, yet it also signifies the beginning of a new life for everyone involved. Kids finally get a chance to leave the town which both raised and inhibited them. Jimin is both excited for what the future holds but also immensely petrified.
The school is bustling with students in green gowns nervously gossiping with their friends. It's been weeks since prom but Jimin still receives the stares of his peers who will never forget the speech he made. While they may never say it, the words that were said that night would stay with some students for the rest of their lives. It was like a watershed moment— finally people were beginning to listen to who they truly were.
Jimin leaves his parents and joins his friends who are sitting on the front row, and are anticipating how many names the principle is going to butcher. The sun is already beating down on them like a guardian angel, and beads of sweat trickle down their foreheads as they laugh about the antics of the past year. The nostalgia of this day hasn't hit them yet.
Eventually the principle taps on the microphone and the field of people is silenced as they await a speech which is given every year. Some parents could practically recite it. But it seems like the principle has different ideas this year.
"Welcome parents and students to this joyous day, a celebration of the graduation of the class of 2019!"
Whoops and cheers fill the air, and Jimin claps his hands close to him as nerves bubble inside him. These worries are washed away by Yoongi's hand falling on top of his own, and he finds himself lost in the elder's eyes for a second.
"Every year I look out on the faces of all our bright students and I feel proud to be leading an institution like ours. However, it's not always like that. This year I saw our students divided by something. I saw our students spew hatred and bigotry. I saw violence where there should have been love. And as a headteacher it felt like nothing I could do would bring about peace."
The principle clears his throat, and Jackson and Hoseok look to their hands in shame. Without them, this divide would never have occurred.
"Yet, my faith in these children in front of us —the future leaders of this world— was restored by the power of love. While they are standing up here today to receive prizes to commemorate their academic success, they should also celebrate the love they pour out into this world. Love is a powerful tool. It can separate us, but it can also be the strongest tool we wield. Onto the ceremony—"
The drone of names fills the field, and eventually all of the students had received their diplomas. Jimin's parents coo at him and Yoongi while they take pictures of the pair looking incredibly uncomfortable in their gowns. Before he can escape, Hoseok is pulled into the picture and Yoongi is cast off to the sidelines to watch with a grin.
"Look how grown up they look!" Mrs. Jung says with tears in her eyes as the childhood best friends pose together.
"Jackson!" Mrs. Park calls over to the boy, who looks a little like a deer in headlights, "Get in the picture."
For a moment, Jackson considers running as far away as he can. And then he looks over at Jimin, and he feels his heart warm at the smile on his friend's face.
"I thought you were supposed to be an athlete Jackson, you're taking an awful long time to get over here," Jimin teases, and Jackson joins him.
Together, the three stand with their arms around each other's waists like one three-bodied human. Three hearts beating together. Three eyes looking one way. Three smiles. They have their differences, but it doesn't stop them from loving one another. From being able to connect with one another.
With the photographs finally finished, the students break off to say their goodbyes for summer which involves a lot of hugging and happy tears.
"I think I left my phone in the bathroom," Hoseok moans, and he's forced to run back into a building he hopes to never return to.
As he exits he notices a group of juniors hanging round the side of the building, clearing volunteers to help with the graduation for extra credit. The closer he gets to them, the more he can hear their conversation.
"I'm just saying, if I learned one of my buddies was gay, I'd never speak to them again," a tall one, maybe his name was Soobin, spits and everyone around him laughs.
Everyone except one girl.
Her dark brown hair falls onto her face slightly, and she plays with her thumbs as the rest of them continue talking. While the feud is rested for one generation of students, it seems to have emerged in others.
"You must be a really shitty friend," Hoseok replies to the boy, making all eyes turn his way.
For a moment he catches the eye of the mysterious girl, and there is something in the sparkle in her eye that captivates him.
"Who are you to tell me anything?" Soobin retorts, rolling his eyes.
"Someone who almost lost my best friend because of being caught up in some stupid rivalry," and with that Hoseok walks away, going to find the people he loves most in the world.
However, he slows his pace when he hears the padding of footsteps behind him. Sure enough, in behind him is the very same girl he saw.
"I just wanted to congratulate you on standing up for people," she says quietly, barely able to look him in the eye, "It takes a lot of guts— bravery I don't have yet. I hate the way people act like sexuality is the most important part of a person. Enjoy your graduation. I'm Ryujin by the way."
With that she struts away, and Hoseok is left with a quickened breath and a head full of possibilities.
Back in the middle of the crowd of people, Jimin finds Yoongi and it's like the wind is knocked out of him. There is something about seeing his boyfriend smile that makes his heart want to do flips, and Jimin takes a moment to drink in the sight before taking the boy's hand and dragging him away from the chaos.
"Where are you taking me?" Yoongi jokes as they walk into the trees beside the athletics track.
For a moment they get lost once again in each other's eyes, and Jimin's lips find Yoongi's in a sweet kiss. Pulling away, Jimin can't help shake how lucky he feels to have Yoongi in his arms.
"All my life I've just tried to get by in life, but with you I feel like I'm properly living," Jimin whispers, his nose pressed against Yoongi's under the canopy of leaves.
"Kiss me again before I start crying," Yoongi replies, and the pair laugh through tears until they hear their names being called from the people they hold closest in life.
And as the students leave the school grounds, the corridors and classrooms fall silent. Corridors and classrooms which have seen love, heartache, pain, and redemption. But most importantly.
Friendship.
