ii. Blood on Your Hands
EPISODE ONE-
BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS
1996
"It seems like you don't even care." Tai told nat. "Tai, come on." Josie tried to tell her as she stood by Lottie. "Are you kidding me? You're being insensitive." Though Josie agreed with that. She didn't say it. "This is what we've worked for all season. You really want to take that chance?" Jo looked to her side just in time to see Shauna walking over.
"Yeah. 'Cause I'm not a fucking asshole." At that, shauna spoke up, confused. "What are you guys talking about?" No one spoke, no one answered. Josie sure as hell wasn't gonna do it- Shauna would tell Jackie. And Jackie would get mad because Josette wasn't the one who told her.
After a moment lottie spoke up after taking a deep breath. "Allie," as soon as it was said josette could feel shaunas eyes on her, she wouldn't look at shauna which probably made it even worse when shauna spoke again. "What about her?"
"Did you black out at states? She totally choked." Tai pointed out, which was a good point. Still it didn't feel right."She's a freshman, tai." Nat looked to Josie, hoping she agreed with her. Josette didn't speak up. "She's a liability,"
"So what do you want to do about it?" Shauna finally asked, finally getting to the point. "She can't screw up if she doesn't get the ball," josie couldn't help but let out a scoff at that. "You want us to freeze her out? Are you fucking kidding me tai?" Taissa was quick to defend herself on that.
"At least we'd know what we're working with. And don't be like that Josie. You know that if she plays we won't win." She hated that she was right. So fucking much. Then lottie started to speak making Josie looked to lottie when she started to speak up. "She kind of sucks, but... I don't know."
Josette didn't think this was right. She hated that tai was right. She hated that a part in her agreed. So it only got worse when nat spoke up again. "That's because it's bullshit."
"Oh, yeah? What's your plan, then?" Josette would actually like to hear this. She wanted to know what nat thought on a plan. Because if lucia was with them right now- maybe it would make her agree with nat. She definitely wouldn't at first, she didn't like allie. Everyone knew it.
"I don't know. Play like a fucking team and win? It's worked so far."
Yeah, lucia definitely wouldn't care for that. She hated Allie. So, no way tai would listen to it. "Everything works until it doesn't." Tai told her, this time not sounding up for argument at all. "And for the record, you smell like a wino. Get your shit together."
Nat looked to josie again, silently asking for help. All josie could do was shake her head, mouthing the words 'I'm sorry,' to her. Natalie took a deep inhale, "You know what? Fuck this." She spoke before storming off. " Wow. Okay." Tai spoke at Nat storming off before turning to josie.
"You'll tell Lucia about this, right? Because I mean, we all know she'll agree." That's what josie hated. She hated this idea but, she couldn't say anything. Once Tai had her mind set on something, she didn't give up. "Not like I have a choice, right?" Tai nodded to herself.
"Doesn't feel right." Lottie mumbled, before grabbing her bag and walking off with josie following after her.

There was knocking on the door. It confused Josette- she never really had ever had people knocking on the door. Unless it was Lucia, but Lucia hardly visited her anymore. Because Josie had pushed her away, again. She didn't want to open the door but she did anyway. "Hi, I'm Jessica Roberts. I'm not sure if you've been getting my calls but, I just wanted to ask a couple questions."
It was a reporter. She was so sick and tired of reporters. She didn't answer questions anymore. And when she did- she hated it. When she first got back all she got asked was about it. About Jackie. She wasn't in the fucking mood to talk to a reporter again. "Yeah, I've been ignoring them on purpose. Now get off my property."
Before she could close the door the lady, Jessica, stopped it. "Just a few questions. All I ask, if you don't like what I have to say. I'll leave you alone, for good."
And that is how Josette found herself sitting at her dinning room table."I don't know what you want to hear. Because everything has been said. We crashed in the forest, we had food a little bit and then we ran out. We looked for help and looked, but nothing. Some of my friends died. That's it. There was nothing else."
She was lying. But now days, that's basically all Josette did. What else was she supposed to do, tell the truth and get thrown into a mental hospital? If she told the truth her parents would hate her. She wanted to tell the truth. She wanted to tell the truth so fucking badly. But she couldn't. They all promised they wouldn't. She wouldn't ruin their lives.
"I'm pretty sure sure there was more to it... I mean, your sister. What happened out there with her... And I'm sure this isn't how you wanted your life to turn out." Josette took a shaky breath, before exhaling. Shaking her head at the reporter, "I think you need to get out of my house. I don't like people who come into my life and then try and say they know me. I don't like people who piss me off. And you're certainly pissing me."
Josette's tone had changed. It was more rude and well, full of anger. Jessica seemed shocked by the change of it. But she listened, getting up from her chair. At first, pulling out a business card. Placing it on the table, "I'll just leave this here, if you change your mind and you want to talk to me." She sent a small smile before walking away and the sound the door closing was heard.
Once Josette heard the door close, she looked towards the card and pulled out her phone. Opening the group chat that held two contacts she didn't want to ever talk to again.
Taissa Turner and Shauna Sadecki.
The ones who could always see right through her.
