5. family barbecue
Torettos garage and market as always been part of the family's business. All the siblings play important roles in making sure the business thrived. Sophia and Mia usually worked at the cafe and did paperwork when needed.
However, recently a lot of choices Dom has been making has been making it hard for the girls to figure out how to run the business effectively. Non-stop they have been working to reorganize everything.
Working through the paperwork, Sophia heaved a frustrated sigh as she ran one hand through her messy hair pulling it up in a bun, striding over towards Mia.
"What about parts and service?" Mia questioned their older brother.
"Hold off on it." Dom replied.
"Dom." Mia exclaimed frustrated. "I don't know what to do with it."
Sophia grabbed the bundle of files from her sister and flipped through them. As Mia and Dom continued talking slowly a shitty, beat-up car was pulled in front of the entrance of the garage. Sophia raising an eyebrow at the sight of the crashed 1995 Toyota Supra.
"All right, what the hell is this?" Dom asked as himself and Sophia walked closer to it, Mia trailing behind her. "What do you got there?"
Brian gave them a wide smirk as he appeared in front of the car. "This is your car."
Dom crossed his arms over his chest. "My car? I said a ten second car, not a ten-minute car."
Jesse walked up to the car and hit the side of it with his elbow. "You could push this across the finish line, or tow it." Dom said causing Sophia, Mia and Letty to all laughs.
"No faith." Brian smirked at him.
Dom shook his head. "I have faith in you, but this isn't a junk yard. This is a garage."
Brian's grin grew. "Pop the hood."
"Pop the hood?"
"Pop the hood." Brian confirmed, nodding his head confidently.
Sophia and Mia stood to the side as the boys brought the car inside, Letty returning to the car she was fixing. The two Toretto girls watched as Jesse leaned over the car, inspecting what was under the hood.
"2JZ engineing." Jesse spoke, Sophia's eyes widening. "No shit."
Brian laughed. "And what did I tell you?"
Dom shared a glance with Sophia before he replied. "I retract my previous statement."
"You know what?" Jesse cleared his throat. "This will decimate all after you put about fifteen grand in it - or more. If we have to overnight parts from Japan."
Dom thought for a second before agreeing. "We'll put it on my tab at Harry's."
"Yes!" Jesse cheered before holding out his hand to Sophia, the brunette high fiving him with a smile on her face.
Dom turned to Brian. "I gotta get you racing again so I can make some money off your ass. There's a showdown in the desert called Race Wars."
Sophia and Mia rolled their eyes in synchronicity. "That's where you'll do it. I'll tell you what, when you're not working at Harry's, you're working here. If you can't find the right tool in this garage, Mr. Arizona, then you don't belong near a car."
Mia walked past the blonde as Dom walked off. "He owns you now, Loverboy." She teased before heading towards the office.
Sophia shook her head and smirked as she moved to follow her older sister. She leaned up to whisper into his ear. "You're his bitch now."
Toretto's backyard
"I've been meaning to tell you, but this guy named Logan transferred into my history class." Mia was explaining to her sister
"Ohh some guy?" Sophia was teasing her older sister
"Stop! It's not like that. We're just friends." The oldest Toretto
"Sure, you all are- wait is he the guy you were serving for a few weeks now," Sophia went on a rant, "I noticed he would keep coming in and you would immediately leave to go serve the area he was-"
Sophia was interrupted by her older sister's hand but didn't stop her from going on a tangent. With no thought in mind Sophia decided to just lick her sister's hand in hopes of freedom.
"Ew! Really Soph." Mia shook her head. Sophia laughed at her sister and grabbed two platters, holding them on one arm as Mia grabbed the other two.
"Soph! Mia! Hurry up, the chicken's dry." Dom yelled.
"All right!" Sophia yelled back at him as Mia scoffed. "We're coming out already."
Mia opened the door with her elbow and motioned for Sophia to exit first before following her down the steps. Letty immediately whistled as she caught sight of what the two were wearing.
Mia and Sophia were wearing a sun dress but even being twenty Sophia was wearing converse with her dress. The Toretto sisters both rolled their eyes at their brother's girlfriend as they set the food down on the table.
Dom walked up to them, wrapping his arms around them tightly. "My gorgeous sisters."
Mia and Sophia laughed as he kissed both their cheeks and let them go, the three walking to the table. The crew - minus Vince - all sat around the table and Jesse automatically reached for the food. Sophia sat beside Dom; Mia next to her.
"Hey, hold up." Dom spoke, looking to Jesse who was stuffing his face with the piece of chicken he grabbed. "Because you were the first to reach in and grab the chicken, you say grace."
Mia grabbed Sophia and Letty's hands into her own, Sophia reaching across to grab her brother's sharing a smile with Brian who sat at the table across from her.
Jessie looking confused began grace, "Dear heavenly, uh, -"
"Spirit." Leon offered.
"Spirit." Jesse continued.
"Thank you." He nodded to Leon, who winked at him. "Thank you for providing us with a direct port nitrous injection, four core intercoolers and ball bearing turbos and titanium valve springs. Thank you."
"Amen." Everyone chorused, applauding him.
Dom smiled at the nervous male. "Not bad."
Letty chuckled, glancing over to her boyfriend. "He was praying to the car gods, man."
After a few minutes of silence, Leon called out. "Look who it is."
Sophia looked past her older brother and saw Vince walking towards them. Everyone knew that Vince always led with his anger and is too stubborn to ever admit when he was wrong.
"Looks like the old wolf got hungry."
"You know, I gotta eat." Vince shrugged his shoulders as the crew became silent and tense.
"He's always hungry." Letty mumbled.
Sophia bit her tongue to hold in her laughter as she grinned. Brian visibly relaxed at the sight of her smile.
Dom sighed but waved his arm over. "All right, sit down."
Vince placed his hands on Dom's shoulders and leaned down to kiss his head before walking around the table, squeezing Mia's shoulder gently.
"How you doing, Mia?" She squeezed his hand back before he moved past her towards the empty seat beside Letty.
Letty patted Vince on the back. "Let's eat some grub, man." Sophia and Mia shared a smile before they both began to dig into their food.
Toretto's kitchen
Sophia stood by herself in the kitchen, washing the dishes after she had sent Mia up to her room so she could study for an exam. The rest of the crew sat in the living room, watching some movie they had rented that morning as Sophia hummed the music that was playing outside.
"Need a hand with anything else?"
The brunette turned her head to the side, seeing Brian entering the kitchen. "No, I'm good. You can go join the boys and watch the movie."
Brian ignored her comment and walked up beside her, grabbing a hand towel and started drying the dishes she had already washed. "The cook doesn't clean where I come from."
"I'd like to go there." Sophia grinned.
It was silent for a few minutes as the pair continued to wash and dry the dishes. Brian cleared his throat as he took another plate from her.
"I think we should go out sometime."
Her heart started to beat faster, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she shook her head lightly. "No, I don't date my brother's friends."
"That sucks." Brian shook his head. "I guess I'll have to kick his ass then."
"I'd love to see that." Sophia laughed. "I would actually pay to see that."
Brian couldn't help but join in on Sophia's laughter. He felt his heart skip a beat or two as her smile grew.
"So, besides working at the Market are you doing anything else?" Brian gaze landing on her dark brown eyes.
"Working at the Market and Garage helps with the communications field," Sophia met his gaze as she spoke, "Which I'm trying to get my degree in."
"That is amazing. What would you want to do with a communications degree?" Brian asked as he grew more curious about her passions.
"I've always wanted to do a Liaison position for a company or more specifically a race car team would be a dream come true." Sophia explained.
"You always been into cars, haven't you?" Brian questioned as he remembered their talks at the Cafe.
"I guess I have. Growing up watching my dad race and work at the garage just fueled the passion for me." Sophia expressed as she got lost in her memories, "Seeing the relationship of a car and driver has always caught my eye. Especially when it's the right car and right driver."
"Your passion is admirable, and I cannot wait to see what you do." Brian admired the girl in front of him, "Honestly, you're gonna be doing amazing things."
Before Sophia could even answered back the sound of someone stumbling in the kitchen caught their attention. She rolled her eyes as she saw it was Vince and turned back to the sink, picking up another plate. She heard the microwave open and close before she heard his voice.
"Wash my car when you get done."
"What was that?" Sophia narrowed her eyes as she turned around.
Vince lightly shook his head. "No, Soph. I'm talking to the punk. Wear your favorite dress, 'cause when you're done, l'm putting you on the street where you belong, cutie."
Sophia only scoffed as he began abusing the microwave. "Is this thing broken? What's wrong with this thing?"
"V,' Sophia called as she walked over to him. "V, what was that Cuban restaurant you wanted to take me to?"
Vince smiled down at her as she continued. "The one with the picadillo and with red candles, wooden tables, the plantain, food all over the place. What's it called?"
"Cha Cha Cha."
"Yeah, that's it." Sophia smiled back at him. She then turned around and walked over to Brian with a small smirk on her face. "Well, you can take me there. Friday night at eight, is that good for you?"
Brian smiled brightly. "Yeah, it's perfect."
"Good."
Vince left the room in a fit of rage, Sophia turning to face the door as she heard Jesse and Leon protest. "There's no popcorn."
"Make your own goddamn popcorn!"
