•two insane minds•
I climbed over a few teenagers who passed out as I wandered around in the backyard.
To go in on the main door would have been way too obvious, that's why I decided to make my life way harder than it could be. Again. I didn't look back when I made my way around the house towards the back yard.
What just happened was weird, but I didn't exactly have time to spend another thought on it. I somehow managed to appear like a ghost. I don't think anyone I know saw me when I sneaked to the house.
Nothing seemed different than before, actually, it seemed like the time didn't pass here. Except for the fact that some people were puking right now, that was just a little drunk before I left, everyone kept on doing what they did before I left. It seemed like no one even realized I was gone as I might just get in again and keep going like nothing ever happened, but I know that someone realized and that someone was standing right in the corner of the crowded room and unlike anyone else, this person didn't look happy at all.
Hazel kept on looking around, deep circles under her eye. She didn't look wasted, all she was was worried. Her dress was already creased and the red bottle in her hand looked already half empty. She sighed and put her phone again. She was alone, but I guess her friends would be here again soon.
I took a deep breath and straightened my hair with my hands after I opened my black sweatshirt jacket and pulled my black shirt a little lower just so you could see a little bit more of my decollete. I counted to three and action.
"Hazel!", I yelled as I got nearer with a really well-worried face. She immediately turned around and a sign of relief filled her face. "Summer! where were you?", she asked with a mix of happiness and anger in her eyes. "I searched for you everywhere! You said you were going to the toilet-", she word vomit and gesticulated with her hands. I interrupted her. "I know, I know. I'm so so sorry, ugh.", I performed and made sure that no one who saw me in the backyard witnessed the situation. I know I shouldn't continue lying to Hazel like that, but sadly that was who I am and that was the only way out. If she wouldn't believe me, Tatumn wouldn't. And that means that she would automatically suspect me and tell Kendrick. And Kendrick knowing that I lied to Hazel and Tatumn about where I was would mean danger. "It was so full and my phone died and-", this time it wasn't me who interrupted. Hazel looked at me critically. One of her perfectly shaped eyebrows in the air.
"I've been to the toilet to search for you like a half-hour ago. It wasn't full at all.", she pointed out and scanned my face. Crap. For a brief second, I thought the stutter I used to have in third grade would join me again and I must've had an extremely obvious look on my face. "yeah, uhm...eh I can totally explain this.", I made sure. Even tho she didn't say anything, the look on her face gave me all the words I needed to know. They screamed: "Well, then explain."
I had drama lessons in fourth grade. My drama lesson teacher, Ms. Swan, always kept saying: "if you ever forget your line, just come up with the craziest thing that could happen so that the listener will forget what the actual topic was. but don't be too crazy!" and this sentence suddenly became my spirit line. I looked around and scanned the situation. I had to come up with a really good lie now. I saw a girl walking down the stairs, her hair fully messy and her jacket falling halfway down her shoulder, her lipstick totally messed up. And she gave me the inspiration I needed. And then I said the craziest thing I could think of.
"Well...you are right, I wasn't exactly at the toilet the whole time.", I confessed, played pity on my face. Hazel's eyes widened. "Where were you then?" I sigh and looked at the ground. "Well, I don't think you wanna know every detail...." Her eyes widened even more and she opened her mouth. "oh...my god.", she said and everything seemed forgotten. I tried to hold back a grin.
"You hooked up with someone?!", She asked and barely managed to stand still. I gave her a smile and all of her doubts seemed to be gone. "oh, Summer! You could've just told me! I was so worried!", She said and pushed my arm playfully. I forced a laugh. "I told you, my phone was dead."
"Wo was it?", she asked and this was clearly the part I didn't think through. I'm well aware that hazel would never let this one go. "Oh... I don't know to be honest. I'm pretty sure he can't remember.", I giggled and she seemed to get the full amount of tea she needed. We giggled a little when a really short girl with long brown hair stood next to Hazel. Even tho she looked like she was the sweetest person ever, I could tell she could be different if she wanted to buy just one look. "Hazel, have you found-", she started, then saw me. "You must be summer.", she smiled and released a whole pair of pearl white teeth. She wore sparkly pink lipgloss and pink hair clips just to seem even sweeter. "yeah."
"Sumer, Stacey, Stacey, Summer.", Hazel introduced us to one another and Stacey smiled at me. I didn't exactly know what I expected the owner of this house to be, but it surely wasn't a tiny sweet girl with the eyes of the devil himself. I do believe she was nice, but I guessed that she loved gossip more than herself. Perfect match for Hazel.
I recognized her from earlier, she and Hazel were talking. Stacey gave me a sweet smile to let me know she was happy to meet me. "Hazel though you were already run over by a truck.", she said and Hazel giggled. "Well, no I am here.", I smiled and Hazel wiggled her eyebrows at me. I rolled my eyes. I'll never get why people get so excited about other people shoving their tongue into another person.
"Jo spilled all the bowl on the carpet and I'm totally gonna make him pay for that, have you seen him?", Stacey suddenly asked as if she remembered what she wanted to say before our introduction. Hazel and I both shook our head, even tho I had no clue who Jo was. Stacey sigh and looked through the crowd, that's when something caught her eye and she rammed her elbow into Hazel's site. "hey.", she hissed and looked up to see what it was that caught Stacey's attention so intensely.
And for a brief second my mouth almost fell open as well.
I immediately recognized these blue eyes that stood perfectly in contrast with his deep brown hair. He casually walked through the front door, not even bothering on looking indecent. His tall figure slowly walked his way through the crowd.
Why is he here?
"oh damn it, he's just so hot.", Stacey yawned and acted as she'd faint. Hazel just agreed with her by almost drooling on the carpet. The girls practically glued their eyes on him, when all I wanted to do was pushing him off a bridge. "just look how his biceps tightens his t-shirt" Stacey.
He must've left the black hoodie in his car because now he was wearing a gray shirt and I just couldn't believe he casually entered the house like it was his own, not even caring about anything. Still, he looked so like he didn't just rob a whole house. Something about him made me curious.
"Yep, that's Blake Williams, no doubt.", Hazel raved and I glanced at her. I've heard that name before. "wait, that's Blake?", I asked and Stacey and Hazel immediately looked at me like I was crazy. "Yeah.", Hazel said, half-dreaming. "You for sure have heard that name before. You know after you basically smashed his ego in the halls."
I swallowed and looked after him. He headed up the stairs, a bunch of girls giggling as he passed by. I've heard about him before, just never listened. But now, all of sudden, I've never been more interested in a simple name. "Yeah, but what's the point with him? Why is everyone acting like he's King Louie?" I shifted from one leg to another as my eyes followed him up the stairs. He disappeared upstairs without paying attention to anyone. something about the guy raised a lot of questions.
"Oh, there plenty of rumors about him. No one really knows what he is into but people believe that he's not really legal about everything. He came to our school like a year ago and he's a really...really good Kisser.", she said but I eventually stopped listening at the end of the sentence. He's an amateur, no doubts. But he ain't into a gang and still, he got a few skills I can't lie. I may not really like him and me for sure believe that he does a lot of mistakes. But still he obviously never got caught and something about him told me he had potential.
I just nodded my head while Stacey told me more unnecessary facts about what his favorite subjects were or what he ate in the school bistro.
"I don't get why he's here so late." Stacey sigh and looked at Hazel again. She was such an open person and barely cared about the fact that we've only known each other for almost ten minutes. Hazel said something, but I was already drowned into my thoughts.
My head repeated all the things he said in the car when we drove here. And suddenly a small lightened up in my brain. Maybe it was a bad idea, probably the worst I ever had. But it was only my last chance. He was right, he wasn't in the position to tell anyone.
"He probably hooked up with someone outside.", Stacey whined and crossed her arms. Suddenly Hazel's eyes widened and she looked at me. "Wait, is this the guy you made out with?", she asked loud enough for a few people to turn around. But their heads soon turned away again as I wasn't answering. Because I wasn't listening.
"Just give me a minute.", I said and left Stacey and Hazel behind.
I made my way towards the same direction the guy, Blake, just went.
seems like we're each other alibies once again.
I walked up the stairs, pushing myself through the crowd with a mission. I have rarely been more determined in my life. I reached the second floor and once again I wondered about how long it must've taken to decorate this house. My eyes wandered around the room, searching for the one person I swore to never talk to again rarely 10 minutes before. It didn't take me long to recognize him, pushing a girl with long, straight, black hair against a wall while kissing her like there's no tomorrow.
I walked through a cloud of smoke, appearing a few steps away from him like dumbledore, but he didn't notice me. Neither did the girl with the short purple dress. But that didn't stop me from my newborn mission. He was right. I sucked at working alone. I got out of a gang and had nothing. I may be Summer Adams but I'm not Percy Jackson. This wasn't my territory. This was his.
"We need to talk.", I said as I finally reached the two of them. I almost puked at the sound of their lips colliding. It took Blake a second to turn his face towards me. His lips were swollen and the girl in front of him immediately glanced at me through her bright green cat eyes. She was beautiful tho. She grabbed his face again, but Blake started to grin and looked me up and down. He lifted an eyebrow. "How come?", he smirked. I rolled my eyes.
This was the second I realized I must've been out of my mind.
He seemed to understand my message when I looked at the girl in his arms and he let her down. she looked at him in horror and disappeared without saying a word. I made sure she was too far away to hear us. Blake stood in front of me and waited for me to begin. "I thought we were done?", he said, obviously amused. I suppressed a sigh.
"Listen, you were right. I was dumb.", I began. He looked at me surprised. "It was dumb to just break in a police station without a getaway car or an alibi. It was unprofessional." He nodded but didn't really seem to understand what I was trying to say.
I know how this world works. I'd never trust a narcissist, but they love me. And if I know one thing, then how to play them like a violin and make it look all so easy.
"You said there were plenty of ways to find a person if they changed their name. This is your territory and it's nearly impossible to do this alone. I want you to help me.", as soon as the words left my lips he started to laugh. "How much have you drunk since I dropped you here?", he asked and I joined in his laughter.
"I'm serious.", I said and I couldn't believe myself. And somehow I wondered if I really didn't drink anything. "Why do you want me to help you all of sudden?" His eyes narrowed. Because I see something in you I could use.
"You hated me for saving you barely an hour ago." He crossed his well-trained arms and stared right into me. "I know. But you saved me. And I sort of saved you. We were making a good team, right?", I tried to smile at him but he didn't buy it.
"I want you to help me find this guy I told you about.", I said with all my self-confidence and looked him dead in the eyes. I saw the way he looked at me earlier. "We're not in the position to tell anyone if things go wrong, right? You've pointed it out before. Working alone sucks." He actually seemed to consider it for a while, then he started laughing and turned away. "I'm sorry, sweetie, I'm working alone.", He said and wanted to go. "Oh really? Just admit it, you need me just as much as I need you." He shook his head and continued walking. "I'll help you get the money you owe that person.", I said and he stopped. He turned towards me again.
He observed every move I made, but I just stood there like a warrior. I didn't care about him, neither did I care about his reputation or his knowledge. But if I'd just use him right, I could find Carter and I'd be back in Vancouver sooner than I think. I'm better at being the leader than being the main player in a game that is hard to control alone. I needed somebody to help me I could easily get rid of later.
"What's the name of the person you want to find?", he asked. "Carter Smith,"
Then he laughed. "That's all you know about him?", he asked. "That's for me to know and for you not to care about. " An evil grin spreads across my face and he smirked. "So do we have a deal?", I asked and before he could say something, we got interrupted by someone stepping behind of us.
"Summer?...." Hazel was searching for me. "Blake lifted an eyebrow and suppressed a grin. "Willow, huh?" I swallowed. Well, now this is awkward.
"Well, Summer really suits you better."
Hazel stopped a few steps behind us and clearly didn't dare to come any more near us...or him.
I know what she must think, and the fact that he just walked passed the both of us after saying that might or might not have made it better. I turned around and looked at Hazel who clearly didn't get along anymore. But neither did I.
All I know is one thing, and one thing only:
I get what I want and I don't care what It'll cost.
