15 | POINTLESS

B. Loski's Point of View

"It's cute." I stated bluntly, looking down at Naomi. She chuckled, shaking her head at me, "What's cute?" She questioned me. I licked my lips, "Everything about you. So damned gorgeous." I said softly. I leaned towards her, our faces inching closer together.

"Bryce!" My mother's voice yelled, as she opened my door. I jumped up from my bed, "What! What is it?"

My father joined her, "Bryce. It's 7:15! You're going to be miss the bus." He scolded me, they both left my room. My heart began to race, 7:15? Fuck! Naomi! I was supposed to meet her so we could watch the sunrise before school. What's wrong with me? How could I forget? I reminded myself all of last night.

I stopped tormenting myself and got up from bed, I quickly got ready quickly. I grabbed my bad and threw it over my shoulders as I ran to the bus stop.

Upon arrival, I realized the bus had just arrived. Jacob laughed, "Loski, man! Running late!" He mocked me. I ran my hand through my hair, "Yeah, man. Slept in late." I said with a chuckle.

"You first." Jacob said, waiting for me to enter the bus. I walked up the steps, shooting the driver a quick smile. I sat down in an empty seat, looking around for Naomi before doing so. Jacob plopped down beside me.

I looked over at him, "Hey. Where's that weird Naomi chick?" I asked him. Weird? She's not weird you idiot. She's unique, different from everyone else. Don't call her weird. Don't be afraid of admitting how you feel about her, you coward.

Jacob shrugged a little, "Don't know man. Why? What's your deal with her?" He asked me. I stuttered a little as I looked for an excuse, "Uh- I meant Sarah. Who the hell is Naomi?" I said with a nervous chuckle.

Jacob shook his head, "Uhm- Taylor's Mom gave them rides today." I nodded a little. Our ride was silent, only little talk.

Upon arrival, I walked to my locker to get my book for my first period. A note fell out of my locker as I opened it. I leaned down and picked it up, opening it slowly.

"I guess I missed you. Don't want this to go to waste. Can't wait for you after school. See you tomorrow though. I hope.
         — N.H."

The letter had neat, precise writing. I smiled down at it, my heart breaking a little. I knew I had let her down, I knew it. You're such an idiot Bryce Loski. I looked to the shelf on my locker, a small paper bag. I grabbed it, opening it slowly to see a donut, chocolate. My favorite kind. I bit down on my bottom lip, how could she be so kind? And how could I screw her over like that?

"Brycie!" I heard someone squeal my name, I quickly grabbed my book and shut my locker, so nobody would see the note or the gift left for me. I turned around to see Sarah, I smiled a little, "Hey." I said nervously. The bell rang throughout my ears.

She giggled a little, "Wanna get to class?" She asked sweetly, grabbing my hand in her. I looked around, searching for Naomi. I turned back to Sarah and nodded a little, "Yeah. Yeah.. let's go." I spoke lightly, she pulled me behind, walking to our first class.

I sat down in my seat beside Sarah, who was talking to Taylor and her other friends. It was weird, they all seemed like the same exact person? The late bell rung, also known as the, your day in hell as begun. Our math teacher was still on his computer, someone began to handout our notes for the day.

I drifted off, looking out the window that was in the door, wishing I was out. With Naomi maybe. Sitting with her at our secret spot, her head on my chest, my arms wrapped around her, maybe with some sappy love songs playing in the background. The sky turning a purple, pink color as the sun set. It's funny how my dream is based on Naomi. Just like all my other thoughts.

I saw Naomi walk past the door, I immediately shot up. "Mister Loski, where are you going?" My teacher asked. I spun around and looked at him as I slowly opened the door, "Bathroom. Emergency." I spoke in a rushed tone. He brushed me off, "Go on."

I basically sprinted down the hall as I called out for her, "Naomi!" I yelled through the halls. Naomi turned to me as I reached her. She furrowed her brows, "What're you doing?"

"I'm- I'm sorry I couldn't make it this morning. I really am." I stated, although it was sincere it didn't sound like it, and that made me angry. Naomi shrugged, "Whatever Bryce. Not a big deal." She spoke bluntly.

"Where-uh- where you going?" I asked, looking down at the pass in her hand. She sighed a little, "Getting tested." Naomi informed me, looking from the pass back up to me. I raised a brow, "Tested for what?"

"You remember my dad.." Naomi trailed off. Her tone becoming sad, just hearing it broke my heart. I wanted to wrap her in my arms and tell her that she was going to be okay, that I had her and would always be right here with her. I just want to hold her in my arms forever and kiss her forehead and make her feel safe. I licked my lips, "Oh..." I trailed off, I have all these feelings for her and I can't even let out one simple word.

She nodded slowly, she ran her hand through her hair as she took a deep breathe. I nodded, "So that's why you couldn't meet me after school?" I asked nervously. Naomi chuckled a little, "Yeah, did you think there was something else?"

I shrugged a little, "I thought maybe you were mad at me." I spoke softly. Naomi shook her head, "Despite what you think, my life doesn't revolve around you Bryce Loski."

Her voice was harsh, and cold as she walked down the hall. Farther and farther away from me. I walked back to my class, my heart sunk into my stomach. I walked up the teacher, "Can I get a pass to the office. I don't feel to good." I softly asked. He nodded, writing me a pass as I grabbed my things.

I walked out the class and out of the school doors, skipping the middle man. I quickly walked to my house, knowing if I was at school and I wouldn't see Naomi after, there was no point in being there at all.

As I arrived at my house, I went up to my room and plopped down on my bed, looking out my window blankly. My mind stuck on Naomi, she was mad at me wasn't she? You had one thing to do Bryce Loski and you fucked it up. How hard could it possibly be to wake up to meet the one person you truly care about.

I heard the phone ring from downstairs, I slowly got up but ran down the stairs quickly. I picked up the phone, my mother's voice loud and intrusive, "Bryce Loski! Did you skip school?"

"No Mom. I wasn't feeling good this morning, that's why I woke up so late. I wanted to tell you but Dad was there and last time I was sick he made me go to school anyways. I'm sorry, I just couldn't focus. My head hurts, my stomach hurts, my throat hurts." I explained to my mother, my lie coming out quite convincing as I spoke in a hushed tone.

My mother sighed, "Okay. Your Father and I won't be home till' late. He has meetings and I'm working overtime. I don't know what you're sister is doing after school. Just hang tight. Drink some water and take a nap okay?" My mother instructed me. I sighed, "Okay Mom. I love you. I'll see you soon." I spoke sweetly. "I love you too sweetheart. Bye." My mother returned my kindness before hanging up.

I went back up to my room and lie in bed, staring out the window as I watched the time pass by. After what seemed like hours a car passed by. A car with Naomi in the passenger seat. I shot up from bed, running down to my garage where I grabbed my bike and rode all the way to Naomi's house, beating her car there.

I let myself in through the backyard and climbed through her window, which she kept open during the summer because she claimed she liked when the warm air got in.

As I closed the window I heard he door open behind me, making me spin around. Naomi's brows furrowed, "Bryce what the hell are you doing here? Why aren't you at school?"

"There was no point." I stated, innocently shrugging. Naomi narrowed her eyes at me, "To get an education?" I sighed as I laughed a little. My smile grew, "I guess I missed you." I said softly, quoting her note. I bit my bottom lip quickly, "I couldn't sit there when the thought of you being mad at me was torturing me."

"Mad?" She questioned. I nodded a little, "Yes mad. You made that little mad-face. The one where you glare your eyes at me and furrow your brows, your arms folded across your chest." I explained. She chuckled, "My mad face?" I nodded once more, "That's Right. I pay more attention to detail than you think."

She smiled a little, "Bryce-" I cut her off as I walked towards her, "I'm sorry for being a dick and forgetting to meet you." My gaze met hers as I grabbed her hand in mine, looking down into her eyes, "I'm such an idiot okay? I'm hoping I can make up for it now with some quality time." I suggested.

Naomi bit down on her plump, bottom lip and shook her head. She took a deep breathe before letting out a sigh, showing she had given in. My smile grew even larger, I untwined our hands and ran my hand through my hair, "Okay! We're going to just chill here. You and me. And pretended like he sunrise is here."

"We don't need to pretend the sunrise is here. It's all the same whether or not it is. As long as I've got you."
