Chapter 4
Shiro opened his eyes. He felt stiff, as though he hadn't moved in days, which was strange because he felt like he got about ten minutes of sleep. He sat up without thinking and to his surprise, Zanna was no longer sitting on his chest. He frowned and shook his head.
"Cats will be cats I suppose." He muttered before pulling the comforter off of his legs and shifting to the side of the bed. He looked at his legs and noticed stitches running from the middle of his calf up to his knee. He grimaced. I'm glad I wasn't awake for that... He thought.
Shiro pushed himself off the bed and stood up for a few seconds before feeling a god awful pain in his leg and stumbling into the chair that looked like a torture device. He pushed off of the chair and steadied himself against the wall. He looked around the room again and noticed a cane- like thing resting against the wall near the door. He sighed and struggled to limp to the other side of the room without hurting himself more than he already did. He positioned the cane under his arm and leaned against it, using it to take some of the weight off of his hurt leg. He opened the door and limped down the hallway. Light at one end and the sound of conversation led him to the den Allura had briefly spoken about. Allura looked up.
"Good morning sleepy-head, how was your nap?" She asked.
"Not great. I feel like I got less than ten minutes of sleep." Shiro replied, rubbing his eye with his free hand.
"Hmm. Odd." Allura replied. A second door opened. Lotor strode in and paused when he saw Shiro.
"Well look who's finally awake." He said, a disdainful tone in his voice. Shiro frowned.
"Maybe I should've stayed asleep." He grumbled under his breath.
"If you stayed asleep any longer we'd think you died," Allura replied, taking a sip of something steamy from a mug.
"What are you talking about?" Shiro asked.
"You were asleep for ten days," Allura responded, setting her mug on the coffee table in front of her. Shiro froze. Then he relaxed.
"That would explain the stiffness." He muttered. Lotor widened his eyes.
"You're a stiff?" He asked. Shiro opened his mouth to say something then closed it and glared at Lotor.
"Not like that." He grumbled. Lotor shrugged and sat down next to Allura. She smacked his shoulder and said something quietly. Shiro shook his head.
"What day is it?" He asked groggily, rubbing his eye. He let out a jaw cracking yawn and stretched his arms.
"Wednesday." Hunk replied from the kitchen. He held out a steamy mug of something that looked like honey mixed into a lightly creamy liquid with a golden color.
"It will help you feel better." He said.
"God I hope so." Shiro murmured and stirred it with the spoon Hunk handed him. He blew on it and took a sip. It didn't have a definable taste, but it tasted pleasant. He hummed quietly.
"What is it?" He asked and took a second sip.
"Honey milk tea." Hunk replied. Shiro nodded to the side.
"Makes sense." He muttered. Shiro felt an awful pain shoot through his back and stumbled forward. He steadied himself against the wall and heard a ringing in his ears. He felt like a hammer was beating the inside of his skull.
"Hey, man are you alright?" Hunk asked, stepping forward in case Shiro fell. Shiro shook his head and groaned. His vision went blurry and he felt like he was going to vomit. He let out a short shaky breath and felt something rising in his throat. He swallowed a few times and closed his eyes. Focusing on the sound of Hunk's heartbeat. It was fast, yet there was a rhythm to it. Shiro calmed his breathing and handed the mug back to Hunk. His eyes rolled back partially and he felt his entire torso tense up. He doubled over and heaved, emptying the contents of his stomach. Thankfully he hadn't eaten much for the past few weeks. Unfortunately, it was a lot of stomach acid and that was always more painful on the way up than actual chunks or a disgusting paste. He coughed and wheezed as he threw up on his feet. Hunk had since taken several steps back and went to go get something. Shiro's felt as though there was a riot, a war, and potentially the summoning of a chaos god inside his stomach. He felt his knees buckle and fell forward. He face-planted in the tile and rolled onto his side. Allura and Lotor rushed over. Shiro's vision went dark as he lost consciousness, though he could tell from their expressions that they were worried.
Then everything went dark.
