Ready Steady Go!

Television House, Kingsway, London, 7:00p.m, 4th October 1963

The set was panned over, the entire studio visible to the aerial camera capturing the views that the show always started with. A high shot showing the audience dancing then a light flashed on a floor-level camera indicating it was live, moving in on guest presenter singer Dusty Springfield ready for her to deliver the regular "Well, hi there!" intro. 'The weekend starts here!' was then blasted about the room making the live audience cheer wildly.

Friday night television at it's very finest.

Lou danced like her life depended on it. Somewhat forgetting to smile and have fun, so worried she would look like a loon. She seemed destined to fulfil her fears. That was until she heard a loud slap of a clap and shot her head up only to see Richy smiling and doing a slow twist off to the side, out of camera shot; His cheeky grin encouraging her to relax and remember to have fun.

First up was Helen Shapiro preforming the song 'Look Who It Is.' Lou moved, mingled, slow twisted with around 200 other dancers plucked from London nightclubs, each chosen for having great moves or wearing the height of fashion.

Although it was far away from the days and nights of the Cavern Lou relaxed now, entirely enjoying her time as a fan... watching and dancing to the wonderful singer.

She didn't care if she was dancing erratically with no sense of rhythm, she only cared that her boys were going to be on telly.

As rehearsed and with loads of screams, Sharpiro, in a sequence with three of the four Beatles who were facing away from the cameras, turned them around as she sang each of the three verses. Lou would find out later why Paul was dancing across the room and not turning about with the others - They had flipped a coin to see who would be on stage for the song, and Paul came up short. He mustn't have cared as he had oodles of girls around him Lou noted.

The show was broadcast from the small Kingsway studio facility and as the Beatles and their small entourage arrived it was plainly obvious the band were rising quickly in the fame department. The studio staff almost useless at keeping the hundreds of fans who were crowded around the outside of the building away from the boys. Lou stayed hidden in the motor, walking in later with the driver of one car and Mal, thankfully without issue.

"Ok having fun!!?!?" Dusty Springfield yelled at the crowd and camera.

Yeses and applause rang out.

Lou, knew this bit, knew what was about to happen and stood almost ramrod straight as she waited with baited breath. It wasn't so much that the cameras were crowding in closer or even that Dusty and Helen, some of Lou's favourite recording stars, were present. Lou just really didn't want to embarrass John or any of the boys, Brian included.

"Now everybody, we are going to have a fun competition now" Dusty grinned down and over the audience she was on a small riser just a foot or so higher with Paul, he was jiffling his tie, smiling and shaking hands beside her with some of the audience that were milling just inches away. "Who wants to win some goodies!?...... All the girls this time, fellas next time, alright!"

Excited squeals sounded, female hands shot up all over, then Lou, a little slower raising her own hand but nonetheless, started clicking her fingers like a few others around her, hoping to get noticed by Dusty.

"Alright you, you, you and lucky last..... you" Dusty pointed everyone, including 'lucky last' Louise to walk to the left hand side of studio. "Now to some commercials, we'll be right back"

Lou followed behind the group, her black crocheted vest loose over a white long sleeve turtle neck stood out against the other girl's pale yellows and peach attire. The black and white mid length skirt, specially bought for the occasion, skimmed her hips and fell perfectly. Black kitten heels clicked closer to the outer edge of studio to a set mocked up for the next segment and Lou's senses tingled.

Nervousness surrounded the girls as they waited for the commercial break to be over and now their turn to be centre stage was being counted in....

'..5,4,3,2,1 you're on'

Lou shook her hands out and jiggled to relieve the last of the jitters, confidence befell her as she caught a glimpse of Paul's smile across from her.

"Welcome back. Now we are having a competition with Paul McCartney agreeing to judge it!!" Screams rang out with a few yeses and 'pick me's.... Dusty walked over to Paul then turned to introduce the four entrants "Please make the ladies welcome Melanie Cole, Bridget Merr, Louise and Penny Lancaster"

No one seemed to notice Louise had no last name and the show continued without a beat to spare "Now ladies you will be miming to Brenda Lee's Let's Jump the Broomstick I hope you all know that one!" Dusty grinned and let the audience cheers settle before saying "Let's go!!!!"

Lou loved the song and made haste to do the dance moves and hand movements, singing the words silently although a few escaped with sound. Trying all the while to not make any more eye contact than necessary with a very, very amused Paul, who grinned manically at Lou when the camera panned on her.

Richy and George stood by the small door across the room watching the show of girls trying to one up each other, Lou in her own world looked relaxed, seeming to feel the music effortlessly and to their bias minds she definitely was winning.

"John quick they're on" George grinned, gesturing wildly, beckoning John over from the drinks table set out with a bartenders dream of liquors and mixers, carrying a full glass he walked up and peered over Richy's noggin.

"Oh yeah, go Louie Louie"

"Do you think she'll win?" Rich piped up, trying to smack John's glass off his head. John had spilt a drop or two but to Rich it felt like it was a river, he'd stink too.

"Of course, you idiot" George rolled his eyes. "It's a setup remember. Lou could lay down and 'ave a kip and still win"

"Now that would be a laff" John grinned watching the girl he slept with daily, without anyone bending his elbow to do so, now frolic on stage under lights. No nobody coerced John into taking care of Lou's needs now she was taking care of his. "She'll think she's a bloody star now, it'll probably all go to her 'ead"

The music finished and two of the girls were so out of it they were still dancing about weirdly in silence. Paul did his lip thing as he watched the crazies, the lip thing Lou likened to an Elvis lip where Elvis was having his foot stomped on. He also was making horrid frown-lines on his forehead at the display, lucky it was the girls not him on camera at the moment, Lou thought grinning.

"So, Paul all the girls were great don't you think?!" Dusty thankfully had the camera on her, Paul was given a millisecond more to put a handsome innocent smile back on his face.

"Yea sure were. Now how do I pick?" Paul questioned tapping his lip. The rest of the audience calling out the numbers of their favourite. Lou was number four.

Dusty shushed the audience and expectantly turned back to Paul.

"Lou for the win!" John lifted his glass in toast and skulled the free booze. Turning away to set the empty glass on a conveniently placed ladder, he picked up his guitar, they would be next up.

"Arrrrrr, I don't know really" Paul tittered making Lou roll her eyes "Ummm they were all really great umm ok, oh right hmmmmm..... ok number four!"

"Yay number four is Louise!! Come on over Louise" Lou stepped away from the board that she had nearly leaned on. Nearly because if she had she would have toppled backwards, as it was only cardboard, so she found out as she clutched the side waiting for Paul to make up his bloody mind.

Lou stepped up and in between Paul and Dusty, audience members parting like the Red Sea for her.

The lads all in the doorway now, watching on, waiting to see how well Lou managed the limelight. John was curious 'cause Lou was so confident to his eyes, always ready to stand up for someone, always with a barbed comment if someone mocked, even strangers she would tell off if need be. John even went so far as to put his glasses back on, he didn't want to miss a second of this.

Why is Paul so close, geez he's bloomin' breathing in her ear. I'll have to nipple cripple him again, John mused to himself.

"Now Louise say hi to the audience" Dusty held Lou's shoulder gently, a squeeze of encouragement as Lou responded.

"Hi!!!!" Lou waved and grinned happily.... the audience all hey-ed, yelled hello and waved back with various degrees of enthusiasm.

"Now everyone, Louise here is a ring in, she knew she would win as she is a special guest for todays show. It's ok though all the girls will get a prize so everyone's happy, right?!?!"

Cheers echoed in Lou's ears and her fellow dancers were ushered to just in front of her.

"Louise, you already know the fellow standing behind you, don't you?" Dusty nodded to Paul, as he grinned over Lou's shoulder, Lou turned around.

"Yes, very well actually"

Yes she bonked him she should know him, intimately I'd say, John thought grumpily.....but not now so it's 'k I guess... though if he touches her again a cripple him....and more than his bloody nipple.

"Care to elaborate" Dusty teased as George, Richy and a solemn John walked across the room, wading through the throng of people toward Paul and Lou. John glanced up when he was just in front of the small stage. Lou hitting him with a dazzler, her smile wide. John stepped up pushing Paul to the back.

"Well you see I'm George's sister and John and I are..." Lou glanced back, letting John fill in the blank spot in the sentence, she was giving him an out if he so wanted and he knew it, he raised an eyebrow slightly in response to her hesitation.

Lou seemed to be watching the event unfold in some sort of out of body experience she could see the crowd George, Paul and Richy then John.... And off to the side Brian stood with Mal, a hint of a smile lifting the corner of his lips. Her fingers by her side shook and the ones laying in Johns hand jarred against his.

John was leaning in over Lou's shoulder, a blink and you miss it kiss on her cheek while he brought her hand up, a glimpse of shiny wedding band catching the light as the camera tacked over both him and Lou "Married. Lou and John, that would be me, are married"

The room was quiet for a second or two then girls screamed, hooted and hollered ..... yay's mixed with boo's and the roomful of vocal sound mixed into an inaudible hum of confusion to Lou's ears, as the audience pressed forward all eager to ogle the girl that nabbed the Beatle.

Dusty knew Louise was on stage to help compere the rest of the show as George's sister but she had no idea that this bombshell of information of John and Louise's was being dropped and her mouth hung open goldfish style in response.

Seconds ticked by as the microphone went unused.

"Well aren't you going to congratulate us, Dusty!" John tactfully enquired of the mute compere "I mean I have just landed a scoop on you so you could say something" The boys laughed as Dusty looked at the cue card, she had a few minutes of question and answer chatting to go so, finding her voice, she begun.

"Of course, congratulations John and Louise!" back on some sort of uncontrolled course, Dusty made up questions for the couple as Paul Richy and George looked on. "Oh yes, well, honeymoon?"

"Not yet, promised Louise a trip somewhere but with all these tours and wotnot I think she'll have to go alone!"

"Now, now, we can't have that" Dusty giggled "Although Louise would get to relax as I'm guessing you're a bit of a loon John"

"A big loon, that one" George snuck into the microphone over Dusty's shoulder, making everyone laugh.

"Oh George, what do you think of Louise and John getting married, were you jealous?"

"What?? No! I don't want to marry Louise, nor John, for that matter" George deadpanned to Dusty making the audience clap and laugh at his silliness.

"And Louise do you have any plans for the future?"

"Well I have a feeling a few people will be wanting to know about us tomorrow which is ok, I guess. Future ummm tomorrow never knows, now does it" Louise felt John's hand low, too low.

He liked this, liked she was outed to the world and had a feeling that he would like parading her about. Perhaps, John thought, if he could stay this happy they would make it, they would be what his parents couldn't be.

Pinching Lou's behind softly he leaned even lower over her shoulder, all his weight falling onto her heavily making the girls in front giggle happily, making Lou kiss him back, oooh's and aah's sounding when she did so.

Paul was beckoned through to Dusty and John and Lou slipped away toward the back of the room behind the set that was moments before, Lou's dance stage.

The flurry of nattering over John was now directed at Paul.

Paul didn't mind one bit, Lou was happy which made him happy for her. John sometimes acted like a dog marking his territory but Paul understood Johns reasons even though Paul and Lou made sure he had nothing to fear.

"Now Paul, tell me the name of your racing greyhound" Dusty inquired chirpily as she moved on to her 'Ask Paul Anything' segment - questions from the audience.

"Oh yea, I don't actually have a greyhound. You see the story is, a girl mailed me about her dog and said she would change the name but she hasn't yet"

John kissed Lou, full on tongue, French kissed her. Pushing her into the corner he created with his body and the wall, his erection pressing against her thigh. Apparently telling the truth was a mighty aphrodisiac.

Dusty continued on "Holly says ... It's rumoured you sleep with your eyes open, do you!?"

Lou caught John's wrists stopping his fingers from roaming too far, clasping them behind his back like he was handcuffed, she teased his body with her own rubbing against him. His tongue flicked her lips, making her hands release to grasp his face letting a sigh fall from her harassed lips his tongue tangled with hers once more.

"I don't know I'm asleep you see.... but the boys reckon I do, so suppose perhaps I half close 'em" Paul pretended to half close his eyes like he was asleep.

Touching him through his trousers was a mistake, the hiss John let off by her ear testified to the fact.

"And last but not least Jenny says ..... Can you ask Paul if he plucks his well-shaped eyebrows?"

Lou quickly awoke back to the present after John's hiss of want, which was coupled with his attempt to lift her skirt. They were in a room with 200 plus people, how did he do this to her, so bound in his kisses she was.

She kissed him once more.

"Nooooo, they're just eyebrows" Paul ran a nervous finger over his magnificent eyebrows.

"Can you two not.... Brian's having a bleedin' cow over there" Mal hovered tall over the two, protecting the sight from the roomful of underage kids and studio people.

John straightened, but still placed himself flush against Lou's body; his mind reeling at his resounding response to her lips. Jeaven he decided, as she pat her hairback into place. Now, she chewed gum pointedly in front of him, til he grinned and realised her caper "Hey thief, that's mine!"

Dusty giggled at Paul's response, pointedly looking at his very well shaped brows "They are very beautiful eyebrows"

"Not now it isn't, Johnny" Lou grinned with a teasing smirk and walked off  to stand beside Brian with not one backwards glance, leaving John to breathe deeply and tuck himself in. With a sad sigh he made himelself think of old hairy grandmas or the like to settle his donger a tad; for they were due on the small stage to play in mere moments. Figuring most likely, a swelling the size of an erection wouldn't go over too well with the BBC.
