DUDE

On the second day of school, Georgiana accompanied Carlos to the Tourney field. He and Jay had made the team, but because Carlos wasn't as athletic as Jay, Ben had offered to help him improve. While they did some warm-ups on the field, Georgie sat at the bleachers and slowly worked on her Chemistry homework, which Evie promised to look over when she was done.

Every now and then, she would look up from her notebook to check on Carlos' progress. He wasn't great at the game, but Ben was being quite patient. Georgie thought it was very sweet of him to be so helpful. Before long, she realized that she was just staring at Ben and she quickly looked back at her work, her cheeks red.

The next time that she looked up at them was because she heard Carlos screaming. The blonde boy was running off the field with a small dog chasing after him. Knowing how scared he would be, Georgie left her homework and ran after him. Ben was chasing after Carlos too, but Georgie easily passed him from all the running she did on the Island.

"Carlos!" she shouted, trying to get him to calm down. She caught up to him just as he climbed up a tree. The small dog sat at Georgie's heels, and they both stared up at the boy.

"Carlos, it's okay," Georgie said, though that didn't help him calm down.

"Ben? Ben!" Carlos called, trying to get him to help.

Ben finally caught up to the two and stared at Carlos in the tree, surprised.

"Ben, help me!" he said, pointing at the dog. Ben leaned down to pick up the dog while Georgie put a comforting hand on Carlos' arm. "This thing is a killer! He's gonna chase me down and rip out my throat. This is a vicious, rabid pack animal!"

"Hey, who told you that?" Ben asked, walking over with the dog in his arms.

"His mother," Georgie muttered, sighing.

"Cruella?"

"She's a dog expert. A dog yellerer," Carlos said, eyeing the dog. "Why are you holding him? He's gonna attack you!"

"Carlos, he'll be okay," Georgie assured him.

"Carlos, you've never actually met a dog, have you?" Ben asked.

"Of course not."

"Dude, meet Carlos. Carlos, this is Dude," he introduced. "He's the campus mutt."

"He doesn't look like a vicious, rabid pack animal," Carlos murmured, slowly coming down from the tree. He slowly stepped closer to Dude but kept a tight grip on Georgie's hand. She guided his hand until he gently pet the dog. "You're a good boy, aren't you? You're a good boy."

Georgie smiled, glad that he was giving the dog a chance. She scratched behind Dude's ear before stepping back and letting Carlos hold him.

"I guess you guys have it pretty rough on the island." Ben glanced at Georgie, who looked away. His gaze lingered on her cheek, which was covered back up with makeup, before looking back at Carlos and Dude.

"Yeah. Let's just say we don't get a lot of belly rubs," Carlos said, smiling a little from his joke.

"Good boy," Ben said, patting Carlos on the shoulder. Georgie grinned from the nickname. "I mean, you're a good runner. You're - you're fast, you know."

"Oh. Yeah. Thank you."

"Yeah. Listen, I'm gonna give you guys some space, yeah? You guys get to know each other and just, you know, come find me when you're done, okay?"

"Okay," Carlos said, all of his attention on his new canine friend.

"You sure you'll be safe from this scary monster while I finish my homework?" Georgie teased, letting Dude lick her hand.

Carlos rolled his eyes and smiled. "I'll be fine."

"We'll see you later," she said, walking off with Ben. They both glanced back at Carlos once more and saw him sitting down and talking to Dude in his lap. "I can't believe you got him to hold a dog."

"So there are no animals on the aisle? No stray cats running around?" Ben asked her.

"Not unless you count the rats," she said, chuckling. "And Scar eats most of those anyway."

Ben looked disgusted by the thought of eating rats, so Georgie kept the fact that many people on the Isle had resorted to that when food ran low to herself. They got back to the field and Georgie went back to her homework on the bleachers, which remained untouched. Ben, because he had nothing to do until Carlos came back, sat next to her.

"You know, you run really fast," he noted. "Carlos had a big head start on you but you outran me and caught up to him in no time. And you're in heels."

Georgie glanced at her feet. Yes, the pair of Evie's boots that she was wearing had a small heel, but it was nothing compared to some of the tall shoes she had seen Evie in before.

"I like running," she said, shrugging. "It's easy for me. I'm usually always running from my father or away with my friends after they've done something they shouldn't have."

"Do you like it enough to join the track team? Or cross country? I could introduce you to the coach."

Georgie smiled at the thought of joining something. Jay and Carlos had Tourney. Mal had her art, even if it was considered vandalism. Evie had both her brains and her interest in fashion. It'd be nice for Georgie to have something to make her feel at home in Auradon.

"I think I'd like that a lot."

Georgiana was laying on her bed in boredom the next day as Jane complained to Mal about Fairy Godmother. The plan was clearly not going how Mal had hoped.

"Mom said, 'If a boy can't see the beauty within, then he's not worth it.' Can you believe it? What world does she live in?" Jane asked, rolling her eyes.

"Auradon," Mal said flatly.

"Mal, George, do you like?" Evie asked. She held up the blue dress that she was almost finished sewing.

"Yeah. It's cute. It brings out your eyes," Mal complimented before looking back at her sketchbook.

"Love it," Georgie agreed.

Evie grinned, loving the praise to her work. "I know."

"I'll never get a boyfriend," Jain complainer, coming to sit on the end of Georgie's bed.

"Boyfriends are overrated," Mal told her.

"And how would you know, Mal?" Evie asked, smirking at her friend. "You've never had one."

"It's 'cause I don't need one, E. They're a waste of time," Mal said firmly.

"I think having a boyfriend would be nice," Georgie said, staring up at the ceiling. She missed the sly look that both Evie and Mal shot her. She had never mentioned wanting a boyfriend before, not even when Harry flirted with her.

Suddenly Evie gasped. "I forgot to do Chad's homework!"

She jumped up from her sewing machine and ran to grab Chad's backpack.

"And that is exactly what I mean," Mal said, rolling her eyes as Evie pulled out the boy's work.

Then there was a knock at the door. The girl that came in was tall and pretty, but the bob haircut she wore made Georgie want to gag. It was a nightmare and worse than what Jane's had been.

"Hey, guys! I'm Lonnie. My mom's Mulan?" None of the villain kids looked at her any differently because of who her mom was. Why would they care? "No? Anyways, I love what you've done with Jane's hair. And I know you hate us, and, well, you're evil. But do you think you could do mine?"

"Why would I do that for you?" Mal asked, smiling humorlessly. Georgie nodded her head. Mal only did Jane's hair because she was trying to manipulate her.

Lonnie held up a blue pouch that made a clinking noise when she moved it. "I'll pay you 50 dollars."

"Good answer," Evie said, leaving Chad's homework and snatching the money. "I need to buy more material."

Then Evie looked over Lonnie's unfortunate haircut. "Let's see, I'm thinking, we lose the bangs, maybe some layers and some highlights."

Lonnie stopped her. "I want it cool. Like Mal's."

"Really?" Mal asked, surprised that someone liked her messy haircut.

"The split ends, too?" Georgie asked, flashing Mal a sarcastic smile.

Mal looked between Georgie and Evie, who shook the money bag. She growled before rolling off her bed and standing up. She grabbed her spellbook before getting back on her bed, flipping to the spell she needed.

"Beware, forswear, replace the old with cool hair."

The girls watched as Lonnie's bob turned a shade lighter and grew past her shoulders. The curls were a definite improvement in Georgie's opinion. Lonnie walked over to a mirror to admire the new look, and Evie followed.

"I know. I know. It looks like a mop on your head. You know what? Let's cut it off, layer it–"

"No, no, no, no, no, no!" Lonnie cut off Evie's criticism. "I love it."

"You do?" Evie asked, still eying the messy look in disdain. Georgie laughed and nudged her shoulder.

"I'll let you do my hair one day."

"It's just," Lonnie mumbled, looking over her appearance. Then, she suddenly ripped a slit in her blue skirt, surprising all of them. "Now I'm cool."

"Like ice," Mal said, amused.

Then Jane walked over and stood in front of the mirror. She too ripped her skirt but immediately regretted it as she covered her mouth.

"What did I just do? Mom's gonna kill me!"

Georgie smiled and laid back down on her bed. "I'm sure Evie can sew it back up."

Later, Jay entered the girls' dorm, where all of them but Georgie were gathered. He immediately showed off his new Tourney uniform. Then he walked over to Mal, who was flipping through her spellbook.

"Did your plan work with Jane? Are you going over to see the wand?"

"Do you think that I would be going through every single spell in this book if I hadn't completely struck out?" Mal snapped in annoyance.

"Oh, someone's in a bad mood," Jay notes, backing up.

"My mom's counting on me! I can't let her down."

"We can do this," Jay assured her. "If we stick together."

"And we won't go back until we do. Because we're rotten."

"To the core," the other three chimed.

"Oh, yeah," Evie said, looking up from Chad's homework. "I found out that fairy godmother blesses Ben with the wand at the coronation and we all get to go. I have nothing to wear, of course."

Mal shot her a wide-eyed look. Clearly, that information was important and she should've told them as soon as she found out, but Evie didn't seem to pick up on that.

"What?" she asked innocently.

Then there was a light knock on the door. "Hold that thought," Mal said, putting her book down and going to answer it.

Ben was the one at the door and he greeted her with a smile.

"Hey, Mal. I didn't see you guys today. I was just wondering if you had any questions or anything that you needed?"

Mal glanced back at her friends, who seemed just as uninterested with him as she was. "Not that I know of."

Ben nodded and took a step back. "Actually, have you seen Georgiana? I thought she might be in here."

"I saw her on my way here," Jay told him. "She's talking with the track coach. Look's like he was handing her a uniform."

Ben grinned from hearing that. "She joined the team. That's great. I'm gonna go see if I can find her and congratulate her. Well, uh, if you need anything, just, uh–"

"Oh, wait!" Mal stopped him, suddenly thinking of a new plan. "Um, is it true that we all get to go to your coronation?"

"Yeah, the whole school goes."

"Wow. That is beyond exciting," Mal said, faking a smile. "Do you think that it's a possibility that the four of us could stand in the front row next to the Fairy Godmother, just so we could soak up all that goodness?"

Ben sighed in disappointment. "I wish you could. Up front, it's just me, my folks, my girlfriend, and then Neville since he's my royal advisor. Oh, and his girlfriend if he had one."

"And his girlfriend?" Mal repeated, the gears in her head already turning.

"Yeah. I'm sorry."

"Okay. Thanks, bye," Mal rushed out, already shutting the door in his face.

"Oh, but, no, there's plenty of–"

Mal turned from the door and looked at her friends with a smile. "I think It's time that Neville got himself a girlfriend. And I need a love spell."

Mal clapped her hands and Carlos tossed her the spell book. She laughed wickedly as she began flipping through the pages.

"Okay, but like, did anyone notice Ben blushing when he talked about Georgie?" Evie asked with a giant grin.

"Ben has a girlfriend," Carlos said with a confused look on his face.

"So? She's horrible," Evie said, shrugging. "Besides, it doesn't mean he can't have a crush on her."

"Oh, please," Mal said, rolling her eyes. "Georgie's too nice to even think about stealing another girl's boyfriend."
