Chapter 11- Hamburg
-----------------------Guys! I'm sorry I didn't know how long of a drive Liverpool to Hamburg was! Sorry it's so unrealastic!:(( Just pretend they are about an hour apart.:(-------------------------------------------
Paul and I sneaked down to the back of the hotel. There was a back door that said 'Exit' and we entered outside the door. I felt a light breeze sweep across my face. "It feels really nice out here." I said, looking up at Paul. Paul nodded his head to agree with me. "Indeed it does." I looked around and noticed that I still heard the screams and girls shouting "We want The Beatles! We want The Beatles!" from the front of the hotel. I suddenly got worried. "How are we ever going to get past those girls?" I said, looking around for an idea. "Uh, well I guess we need disguises." he pointed to a little clothes shop ahead of us. I nodded, and Paul grabbed my hand as we sneaked around behind bushes to get to the little store.
We reached the store and quickly grabbed hats and glasses. Paul picked a black, round hat that looked absolutely adorable on him. I giggled to myself as he gave me his sexy look. I put on a big, tan sunhat and gave him a model look. He smiled and we both laughed together. He was such an amazing guy.
We paid for our disguises and put them on as we left the little store. Again, I felt a light breeze on my face. "Okay, now we have to catch a bus to Hamburg, but we have to hurry because the boys will get worried." Paul said, grabbing my hand again. I nodded as he kissed my cheek. I smiled and looked over to see a bus waiting at a bus stop for people to board. "Let's go!" I said, pulling him as I ran. We both held on to our hats with one hand, and we held our hands together in another.
We finally got to the bus and got on it. The bus driver was a skinny, nerdy looking lad. He smiled at us as Paul gave him money for the ride. "Welcome aboard, youngsters." We both nodded and smiled at him to greet the bus driver. Paul and I stepped through the aisle to find a empty seat in the back. Paul guided me to the seat as he was still holding my hand. We both sat down and gave a sigh of relief.
"Next stop, Hamburg!" the bus driver called out as he started the bus and closed the doors. "Oh, thank God." I said, looking into Paul's eyes. He smiled at me and turned to look out the window of the bus. "So what's the future like, Alice?" I laughed. "Well, we have a lot more technology. Like Iphones and Internet." Paul looked at me in a strange way, almost like he thought I was joking or something. "IPhones? Internet? What the hell is that?" he said, laughing. I laughed too. "Well, in the late 90's they invent these things called cellphones. They are like portable telephones." Paul looked surprised. "Wow, well what's Internet?" "Uh-well- I'm not even going to explain that." I said, as Paul gave me another confused look.
"Am I alive?" Paul asked, nervous about the answer. I nodded and smiled. "Yes, I think you would be about 70 by now. But you are still cute as hell when you are 70." Paul looked relived and smiled back at me. "Is all my hair gone?" I laughed really loud when he said this, waking some people on the bus. I shook my head. "No, Paul." I said, running my hands through his thick brown hair. "Okay, good." he said, flipping his hair, and making me laugh. But, I stopped laughing when I remembered that John and George died in the future. My smile faded as I look down as the bus floor. "Are you alright, love?" Paul said, putting his hand on my back. I nodded and forced a smile. "Yes, of course, I'm just peachy." "Alright, then." he said, as I stared into his eyes. I knew that he could tell I wasn't okay. I just couldn't tell him that John and George die. That would like, mess with the future. And mess with his emotions.
I looked down at the floor again, thinking. Paul tilted up my chin. "I don't want you to go, Alice. You could stay here with me in 1964." Paul said, as he softly kissed my lips. I pulled away slowly and shook my head. "I can't, Paul. I mean, I really want to. But I have a family in 2012." I said, looking into his eyes to see them sadden. "I understand. But maybe every once in a while you could visit me? You know, if we do get this clock fixed." he asked, looking at the clock in my bag. I nodded. "Of course."
Paul and I kept on talking about the future the whole ride there. I told him about CD's and DVD's, flat screen TV's, and a whole bunch of other technology. But I never mentioned anything about The Beatles. I don't think he really wanted to know anyways. I think the whole future thing frightened him a bit. He didn't really want to know what he was doing in the future.
"All Hamburg passengers please step off the bus! We arrived! Thank you and have a nice day." the bus driver said, interrupting Paul and I's conversation. Paul and I sat up from our chairs and greeted the bus driver once more. "Thank you, sir." Paul said to him. The bus driver nodded as a way of saying thank you.
We got off the bus and started walking down the sidewalk. I saw record stores and sex shows. It looked like a very dangerous kind of town. There were thugs, even in 1964. Liverpool was a little nicer than this place. But, Liverpool was still small.
"Okay, do you remember what street the thrift store was on?" Paul asked, looking down at me. "Uh-well, it's a couple blocks from my house. I'll walk you there." I said, leading him the way to my house. We walked down a few blocks on sidewalk. I saw lots of women in dresses, and drunk guys fighting. It was really fascinating to see the 60's live in person. It was much different than 2012.
We kept on walking down streets after streets, until we finally reached my house. It was actually a different color. It had a flower garden, and the bench swing wasn't there from 2012. It looked much different in 1964. It looked more...new. "What a lovely home. It's very clean." Paul said, as we both laughed. Paul looked surprised to see that I got the joke. "So you have seen A Hard Day's Night, have you?" Paul asked me. I nodded. "Of course, it's one of my favorite movies. So is Hel-" I said, stopping myself before I said it, "Oh, never mind." Paul shrugged it off and continued looking at the house. "Well, lead me the way to the thrift store." Paul said, holding out his hand for me to grab it. I smiled and grabbed his hand and continued walking the other way.
I noticed that the neighborhood looked much different in 1964. It actually looked pretty decent. I kept walking for a couple blocks, until I saw it. There it was. Joe's. I was speechless for about two minutes. I can't believe it's still there, I thought to myself.
"There it is, Paul. We found it." I said, excitedly running to it while holding Paul's hand.
