'Visit Brian's New Pad'

Okay as promised here's the article on Brian's home. ( I probably need to say something about the other places he lived as well. Later~)

The print isn't the best, so I'll type it out.

Sue Mautner takes you on a visit to BRIAN JONES' NEW PAD.

Time-7pm... Destination a mews cottage set in the heart of Chelsea... Motive- to interview Brian Jones in his new pad.

I gave three hearty raps on the brass knocker, and while waiting for Brian to answer, a very pleasing thought entered my mind- "How nice it was to be seeing one so famous without having to barge my way through hundreds of screaming girls at a stage door.
Brian answered the door, casually clad in white polo-necked sweater and grey slacks, with a cigar in one hand and a tall glass of Scotch and coke in the other.

"You'll have to excuse the mess," he said as we entered the richly furnished lounge-cum-dinning room, with its long velvet curtains and Regency styled furniture, "but the cleaning lady woman didn't turn up." Radio Luxembourg was blaring away in one corner and in the other corner- well I was waiting for Brian to explain. "Sorry not a very good host, am I? This is Joey Page, a very good friend of mine with whom I stay when I'm in L.A. He's over here for a month to promote his records, so now it's my turn to be hospitable."

"Come on, I'll give you a guided tour," said my host as we approached the kitchen. It was, as one would imagine, a bachelor's kitchen already- washing up pilled high in the sink, half-opened packages strewn across the table and to make the place look even more like "home", there were empty coke tins and milk bottles everywhere.

Upstairs

Before I had time to comment, I was whisked out and up the stairs. "This is my bedroom", he said as he pointed to a large double room with clothes scattered about, adding to the decor. The smaller one is Joey's. And that as you can see, is the bathroom and the loo."

We made our way downstairs- to Joey. Radio Luxembourg and more conversation."You know, it took me ages to find this page. Over the past year, I'd been living with friends. It just isn't the same as having your own place. I've been in here for over a week now,  and it feels just like home- it's a great feeling to know that you can close your front door and get away from everything outside."

"Has anyone discovered your new dwelling?" I asked.

"No, fortunately. Except for a few friends. But the funny thing is that on the day I moved in I had three fan letters waiting for me! Can't think how they found out, unless they bribed the estate agent!"

Just then, Donovan's voice vibrated around the room. "Can't think what all the fuss is about," said Brian. "I don't think he sounds exactly the same as Dylan, although Imust admit he does resemble him."

L.A. Heaven

Brian began to reminisce about L.A. "It's the greatest place I've ever been to, I'd love to live there. In fact, when we go over in a few weeks time, I'd like to buy a house with a big pool. I know we won't be there for all that long, but I can let it for the rest of the year. Anyway it's a good investment."

"You know what the greatest feeling is? When you're riding down Sunset Boulevard in an open Cadillac. That's really living, man! I'd like a Cadillac, but they're awkward cars to have in London. Actually there's one in the garage down the road. I've often thought of buying it, but hesitate every time. I think the only way I could be forced into buying it is if I were drunk."

"The trouble with you,"said Joey, "is that you see L.A. through a crystal ball. You can do the things you've been talking about only if you have money- pools, cars and girls. Not everyone sees it like that."

"No, man, I don't," protested Brian, "I see it through your eye, the way sou see it."Before they had time to turn their discussion into a heated argument, I asked Brian who did the cooking.

"I often eat out, but when I don't, I knock up something personally, with the aid of a little delicatessen around the corner where I get the food. It's great. I really get a kick out of doing my own shopping and I'm getting to be quite a cook."

As I left, I decided that domestically suited Brian quite well. He saw me to the door- still with a cigar in one hand and a tall glass of Scotch and coke in the other
