Books, Movies & More. [Updated version] Part 1.

As the title already tells you, this is an updated version of the chapter: Books, Movies & More, I had up earlier. Some things changed, like wattpad stories or I found some more things I'd like to add or were suggested by others.

Hopefully this chapter stays a bit longer accurate than the last one. This time I tried to include everything I could think of, which made it awfully long, so I cut it in two. This is Part one with Books & movies. The second part will be about Music and some other things.

1. First Books:

(I haven't read all of them yet, so I can't say how accurate or good they are, but those I've read were at least entertaining. There are quite a few if you look for them.)

One of the first books on Brian's life was Mandy Aftel's book: Death of a Rolling Stone: Brian Jones story (It's from 1983 I think and if I remember correctly some sources claim this to be the first real biography of Brian's life. You can find some second hand copies online for about 5£)

Another older one focusing rather on the murder conspiracy theories is Paint It Black: Murder of Brian Jones by Geoffrey Giuliano. (It's from 1994 and well if you're really interested in that, this is probably one of the books you definitely have to read then.)

Laura Jackson's Brian Jones: The untold life and mysterious death of a rock legend or alternatively named Golden Stone: The Untold Life and Tragic Death of Brian Jones appeared in 1993. It's another biography which often gets accused of being too idolised and it is indeed a bit at the limit in my opinion.

Paul Trynka's  Sympathy for the Devil: The Birth of the Rolling Stones and the Death of Brian Jones  and The Making of the Rolling Stones are newer books and are in my opinion the best start if you want to get to know about Brian. They're not idolised nor give they an overly bad picture of Brian.

Brian Jones: The Last Decadent by Jeremy Reed is one of the books I haven't read yet. So I can't say much about it, but well from the reviews I'm curious about it. It's from 1999.

Terry Rawlings' Brian Jones- The final Truth: The Murder of A Rolling Stone is the final version I think. An earlier version of this book was named Who killed Christopher Robin? As the title suspects this focuses again on the murder claims.

Brian Jones by Alan Clayson, another book I haven't read yet. The reviews are a bit mixed, so who knows? It's from 2004.

Not Fade Away by Dawn R Young. I haven't read that either, I didn't even knew Dawn had written a book. Yes the book is indeed written by one of Brian's girlfriends and the mothers of one of his children. It's from 2014.

Murder of Brian Jones or The Wild and Wicked World Of Brian Jones: The Amazing True Story Of My Love Affair With The Murdered Rolling Stone are the same books, just with a different title by Anna Wohlin, Brian's last girlfriend before his death. This book, well if Laura Jackson's book gets accused of being idolised this one is well worse on that. Some aspects might indeed be 100% true, but others make you doubt the whole book. I don't want to spoil it to anyone, so I'll keep quiet, but it's a bit of a contrast to some other books. Well it's from 2001.

Furthermore you have biographies from Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Marianne Faithfull, Andrew Loog Oldham etc. where you can read about Brian as well.

And about a million books on the Rolling Stones.

2. Movies.

You find concerts and interviews on YouTube, so I'm not going to mention them, the only movie I can think of about Brian's life is Stoned, which can be found on YouTube as well. A quick warning, not everything shown in the movie is a fact, so don't take it too serious, I suppose. Personally I have mixed feelings about it, because for one I'm happy that there even is a movie about Brian, but secondly they left huge parts out and concentrated on some things I don't exactly agree with.

Well here's the trailer, if sb wants to have a look:

However the Stones did some more movies, where of course Brian is with them, so let's talk about those quickly:

Charlie is my Darling- Ireland 1965 was the first documentary film about the Rolling Stones. It was intended as a screen test for the band, to see how their musical charisma would translate into film. The footage was shot during the band's second tour of Ireland that year, on 3 and 4 September 1965, and was finished in the spring of 1966. It was given its premiere at the Mannheim Film Festival in October 1966. But the film was never officially released, due to the legal fights between the Rolling Stones and Allen Klein and a burglary in Andrew Loog Oldham's office, which saw all prints disappear. Nearly fifty years later, in 2012, a new film using restored footage and entitled "Charlie Is My Darling - Ireland 1965" was released by Allen Klein's ABCKO Records , which owns the rights to all older Stones material(Thanks Wikipedia. Sorry I'm lazy. )

Sympathy for the Devil or One plus One shows in short the recording session of Sympathy for the Devil, but of course there are some elements in the movie as well. I don't want to mention them however or I feel this chapter is going to get awfully long. So let's focus on Brian. Another thing this movie is known for is that it shows the disintegration of Brian Jones...

The Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll Circus, which took place in December 1968, is a great show and hence deserves a mention and well it's Brian's last performance with the Stones.

Crossfire Hurricane is a 2012 documentary about the Rolling Stones. From their beginnings until the 80's, which means it covers a lot about Brian as well. Or as Wikipedia says: "The film discusses their early success in the sixties; the way the media characterised the difference between them and the Beatles; the exceptional musical talent of Brian Jones; their first song-writing; the difference between the boy fans' aggressiveness that resulted in fights with the police and the girl fans' screaming hysteria; Mick Jagger and Keith Richards drug use and their arrest; the musical contribution of Brian Jones that was waning due to excessive use of drugs, and his death a few weeks after the separation from the band." (I'm usually not a huge fan of Wikipedia, but it's easy and this time they're not completely wrong.)

There are of course some other documentaries. You can find a lot of strange things on Youtube, which I'm not going to mention here either.

I hope this was everything. Well if I forgot anything, just comment and I'll add it.

Part 2 of this will be out next week and then the week after that on the 3rd exactly, we'll talk about some sadder things, if I manage. This sounds wrong, ehh it's not because I won't be in a state to update, but well I leave on the 30th of June and only get back on the 3rd and I have already other plans. Yes surprising my life doesn't revolve around Brian Jones. I know what a shock.

Thanks for reading, voting and commenting.  ❤❤❤
