London

Arriving in London, in the middle of the socialite season, or the debutante season as was the proper name as Georgina had been rather rudely informed. Was not something Georgina liked. The streets were much busier than had been previously experienced when the entire Bennett family had come to visit London in the previous years. Mayfair seemed full of young women and their overly involved mothers rushing down the streets as they got ready for the oncoming events.

Tonight was supposed to be the first night of the season, with the official debut of the debutante in front of Queen Charlotte herself. Georgina had seen the queen before, never having been close but having seen what the queen was like. And the rumours of which went around London were also one to say. Queen Charlotte was a hard woman to impress, only usually taking to one maybe two of the debutante's a season and it was a highly sought after position. It had been one that Grace had never managed to grab for herself, something she seemed resentful for even three years after entering the society for the first time.

And it was something that Georgina was not aiming for. For being the 'diamond' chosen by Queen Charlotte was more of a curse than a blessing. Other debutantes' would be after you for the rest of the season making it hard for you to find someone suitable. But men would throw themselves as the diamond in an attempt to win some sort of prize. It was pretty disgusting in Georgina's eyes and not something to be desired. Not that Grace would be happy to hear this. But all Georgina wanted was not to trip in front of the Queen and then take full advantage of the drinks and food which were going to be open on display and free.

The house of which the Bennetts were to stay in for the duration of the season, was not one which was alone on its own street much like the estate in Yorkshire. Rather, there were many large similar looking houses surrounding them. Their neighbours of which Georgina would come to most likely find friends within, if there was any attempt to avoid Grace as much as possible. Georgina recalled what Montery had stated in terms of influential families of which lived upon this street. With two standing out the most.

There was the Featherington's a family blessed with three girls and a father with a horrible gambling addiction. Georgina had been warned to be cautious around the members of that family considering that Montery himself had been thwarted of money from the cunning head of the Featherington household. Georgina could recall during the previous times they had as a family visited the London address meeting the three girls. Though Georgina could not recall many of the features nor personality of any of the girls. It would be something that would come during the season that much was true.

The other influential family living on the same street was that of the Bridgertons. This was a family that Georgina knew much more about, Montery had been good friends with the late Viscount and had stayed around to help the new head of the house adjust to the roles of which were bestowed upon his shoulders. Gabriel had also gone to Oxford with the oldest son, Anthony and therefore Georgina had seen more of him as they grew up. Anthony was never someone Georgina could see as a husband of anybody yet alone themselves. For Anthony was the definition of a rake, spending much too much time taking the reputation of women only to leave them in the dust and move on to newer accomplishments. The Bridgerton family was a large one, with eight children, named alphabetically though Georgina could not judge considering all children in the Bennett family were named with the same starting letter. There had also been the fact that the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family was going to be debuting this season a young lady named Daphne and Georgina hoped that they could become friends. After all that was what would get both Debutantes through the season, a friend outside of their families they could talk to without the judgement and reminder of importance of finding a match. Georgina did not know much else about the rest of the children only their names and thought maybe, that would also be something that would occur as the season passed.

But it was not like Georgina had much more time to debate about their new neighbours, considering the fact that the longer stood contemplating, the tighter the corset Grace was tightening became. Letting out a large hiss, Georgina recognised that if the corset remained as tight as Grace currently have it, it would not provide any support and would only cut Georgina in half.

"Grace that is too tight, I cannot breathe." Georgina hissed towards Grace who seemed to be sporting the biggest smile at the pain caused by the tight corset.

"The dress you have chosen makes you look frumpy a tight corset is essential at providing some shape."

"The only shape it is giving me is of two seperate parts, just a little looser so I may breathe and not die in front of the queen." Georgina bargained and this seemed to work. As the corset was loosened as Grace turned her attention to the headpeice of which Georgina would have to sport for the evening. The feather decorated piece of which had been in the brief of what each debutante had to wear. And after allowing Georgina to get into the dress, the headpiece was tightly pinned into Georgina's hair to allow for curtsying to occur without it falling onto the floor. Which would be as embarrassing as fainting in front of the queen because the corset was too tight.

When Grace was finally content with the way of which Georgina looked, it would be just in enough time noting that the family would have to leave very shortly in order to get to the halls of which they were required to be at that evening. For if they were late there was no chance you would be allowed to debut. If you were not seen by the queen you were not eligible to take part with the highest and most wealthiest members of society. And despite Montery saying he would be happy as long as Georgina was it was no secret the head of the Bennett family was looking to raise their social status.

There were multiple carriages lined up on the one street in Mayfair. The one of which the Bennett's had only left out of that morning was the one of which Georgina recognised instantly. The other's on the street belonged to the other noticeable families down the street, and all three would be following one another for the entire duration of the journey. Georgina was beckoned to get in the carriage first, Grace wanting to keep the hard work as pristine as possible.

The journey itself would have been expected to be silent. Full of anxiety and other scared notions as they got closer and closer to the moment of judgement in front of the queen. But rather it consisted of Montery and Georgina playing a game of Eye Spy for most of the journey. Effectively taking both of their minds off the upcoming events. They had attempted to get Grace involved in the game, but it was almost as if she was getting excited to relive the experience. An experience where things this time would go as planned. Or so they hoped.
