Her Majesty
As it got closer and closer to the time when Georgina would be presented, this was when the nerves started to rise. It was not difficult in the grand scheme considering the fact that Georgina would be going up there presenting as the perfect young woman who was looking for the man who would sweep her off her feet. Yet Georgina was not content in the idea of femininity and the thought of having to be referred to as both Miss and by the feminine pronouns for the ongoing months was the worst idea. And it was just about to start.
Georgina was able to remove the focus on the upcoming events by watching the over debutantes enter in an attempt to impress the queen. As it was a well known fact that if the queen was impressed and named you perhaps as the jewel of the bunch that it would be much easier to find a marriage partner. That the eligible men would be fighting over whomever was deemed the jewel in order to bring more prestige to their family. It was not something that Georgina was personally interested in, and knew that if the queen was to name them as the jewel of the season that things would only spiral downwards past the point of comfort. It would also be the first time the jewel of the season would not marry. As Georgina could never see someone wanting to marry them, no matter how well Georgina met the beauty standards of the current time.
Rather instead of focusing on what this could mean if it went well for Georgina the attention was easily shifted onto the Fearthertington daughters. The three daughters whom had been dressed in the most bright and gauntly looking dresses their mother could find. And the colours did nothing but clash against what Georgina would consider three very beautiful young women. But that did not matter as they all fought to walk through the enterance at once, well the two oldest did pushing through awkwardly together. And despite this not being the two eldest daughter's first season it would seem as though they had no recollection for ever entering before, Georgina had seen it whilst Grace had debuted into the marriage market and had perfected the routine in order to not embarrass the family name. It was a shame such a message seemed not to have been passed onto the two eldest Featherington daughters. The same could not be said for the youngest whom looked like they would rather be anywhere but in front of the queen. Georgina allowed a small bubble of laughter to escape watching on as the two eldest daughters continued to embarrass themselves, with the oldest managing to fall in front of the queen. Knowing that no matter how horrible their debut went, that it would never be as bad as this.
Before Georgina could focus on knowing that there was one more debutante to go before the Bennett's would enter the ballroom, the whispering from behind caught the attention of both of the Bennett siblings. Georgina turned to see a face which was somewhat recognisable. Daphne Bridgerton one of the members of the family of which lived on the same street as the Bennett's now occupied. She was incredibly pretty, it was the first thing Georgina noticed, fitting the beauty standards to a t. It was clear that Daphne also appeared the most ladylike of anybody who had gathered in the waiting room that evening. And the way she clung onto her mother beside her was more evidence that Daphne was likely to be a very sought after woman for the duration of the season and until she had made up her mind on who she wanted to marry. Daphne would make a good ally in terms of finding a marriage candidate. But that was not what Georgina was focusing on, because Daphne had also laughed at the unfortunate state the Featherington's had ended up in, and therefore Georgina knew the two would make good friends more than anything else.
"I'm Georgina Bennett, we're going to be great friends I can feel it." Georgina spoke having turned towards the Bridgerton's stood behind.
"Daphne Bridgerton, I believe we're neighbours." Daphne greeted back with a small dip of her head. Georgina felt the urge to offer a hand to shake, but knew that this was not the proper manners of a London lady and therefore pushed this thought aside only offering a smile back.
"Georgina make friends later, you are next." Grace interrupted before Georgina could really share anything else with the woman stood behind her. Turning back to the front it would just be in time as the pair were ushered forwards in order to enter the main ballroom.
"Miss Georgina Bennett presented by the Duchess Lowery." The man announced and Georgina had to hold back from wincing. Despite knowing it would happen time and time again, it was still hard hearing the proper title that they did not feel represented them spoken time and time again.
However, Georgina pushed this aside, focused more on walking in a straight line and following every etiquette lesson that had been taught by the nannies throughout their childhood. The most important thing was to not make a mockery out of the Bennett name. That was all Georgina required to do that evening, if no suitors were found that would be okay. The main importance was to not embarrass the family name. And therefore, walking through the room head held high and slow enough to ensure no trips occurred Georgina felt powerful.
Upon reaching the steps below were the queen sat, Georgina dropped into the curtsey of which had been practiced time and time again, yet was still never good enough. But it was enough to warrant the smallest of responses out of the queen. A small smile graced the face of the royal, not enough to cause rumours to spread around the room but enough to satisfy. And the presentation of Georgina Bennett was complete.
"Miss Daphne Brigerton presented by the honourable Viscountess Bridgerton." And therefore, Georgina was almost forgotten about as the natural beauty which was Daphne Bridgerton entered the room.
