🌼 "Promise" 🌼 (Lumine & Aether Angst)

[[ A short drabble I wrote for my best friend's homework. Enjoy. ]]

Cecilias. Beautiful flowers with a name that suits its appearance. They only grow where harsh winds blow, and is just as intangible as the true heart of an unbound soul. These unique flowers are the embodiment of true freedom and symbolize peace. Their soft white petals dance with the breeze from the rise of dawn to basking in the orange light of the sunset. As fragile as they seem, they are strong enough to withstand even the strongest of winds in Tevyat. Somewhere, there was a vast and seemingly endless field of these kind of flowers. And in the center of it all, two figures stood amongst the white flowers, gazing across the far horizon.

"Brother...." A female voice called out softly. "Which world do you think we should visit next ?" She asked, turning to look at her dear twin.

"I'm not sure... Where do you think we should go next ?" The male responded, chuckling softly at the end. It seemed like they were the only ones in this vast field. Completely alone, but at least they have each other.

Aether and Lumine were the names of these two other worldly Travelers. They do not have a permanent place to live in and call home because of how they constantly move from one place to another. Nomads would be the right word for them, but they preferred the term : Travelers.

Lumine sighed out, kneeling down towards the flowers, her dress getting caught up in them but she didn't mind at all. She wanted to observe and examine them up closer. "I'm not sure... We've been traveling a lot lately, "

Aether crouched down next to her, soon taking his seat beside her, sitting on some of the cecilias and quietly muttered an apology for crushing on them. "Well we are Travelers, aren't we ?" Lumine sat down next to him.

"Yes, I very much know that." She looked at the flowers more before beginning to pluck a dozen of them.

"What are you trying to do ?" Aether asked, looking at her curiously as she plucked flower after flower.

"I'm gonna make a flower crown. For you."

"For me ?"

She hummed in agreement, beginning to work on it already. Aether sat up and began plucking some flowers himself as well, mimicking her actions. Lumine looked at him and snorted a little. "Copycat." Aether rolled his eyes at her but snorted. "Just because I'm a boy, doesn't mean I can't make the same things you girls do."

"I didn't say you can't," Lumine replied, hearing a huff come from Aether without her even looking at his direction but smiled nonetheless and concentrated on her handy work. Soon enough, a flower crown of cecilias adorned each of the twins' hairs.

"Not bad," Lumine hummed, lightly adjusting the flower crown Aether had made for her as she did for him. Aether smiled proudly before lightly pinching her cheek. Lumine scrunched her face in annoyance and gently shoved his hand away. Aether laughed and commented on how adorable she looked when she was annoyed, which annoyed her even more. Aether kept up with the teasing before Lumine decided she heard enough and tackled him down onto the ground, his head half buried in the cecilias. Aether began laughing, saying it was just a joke, until Lumine had began laughing with him before shoving a few flowers on his face to which he admitted was fair.

Soon enough, without them even noticing, the sun was slowly beginning to set, the sky slowly turning from blue to orange by each passing minute. And by that time, the twins were laying side by side, close to each other to peacefully admire the view of the beautiful sky above them. A comfortable silence settled between them after their usual bickering, wanting to relish this view for another memorable day in the future.

"Aether ?" Lumine suddenly spoke, breaking the silence over them. "Can you promise me something ?" Aether tilted his head to the side in her direction, looking at her curiously. "Sure, what is it ?"

Lumine stared ahead of them, looking like she was lost in thought, her head in the clouds, but she was more like thinking of something. "Can you... Promise me that we'll never be apart ? That you'll never leave me alone ?" She asked it almost in a soft whisper, as if she only wanted Aether to be the one who heard her when no one else was around.

"... Of course. You're my twin, we've been inseparable since the day of our birth. " Aether replied after a moment. "But why the sudden question ?"

"Nothing really, I just felt like wanting to hold a promise between us. It just felt... right."

Aether turned his whole body to his side so he could fully face her, and Lumine copied him. So now they were facing each other. He reached his hand out to grab hers and cupped it with his own. She squeezed it a little.

"I promise, that we'll always have each other, and never be apart. That you'll always have me by your side, and you by mine." He stated, sounding like he really meant it. Lumine observed him in silence for a few moments before giving him a soft smile, Aether reciprocating it.

"You promise ?"

"Yes... I promise. "

The twins smiled more at each other, leaning their foreheads against each other with their hands interwined in a promising clasp to never let each other go. Aether closed his eyes and Lumine did the same.

* * *

"Liar."

"I'm sorry."

By the time Lumine opened her eyes again, he was gone. Dark fell upon the lands with only the light of the moon shining upon her and their cecilias as her only source of light. Lumine had a numb look on her face, staring at no one in particular beside her, her hand grasping at nothing but a feeble, worn out Cecilia that crinkled under her grip.

"... You lied to me..." She whispered, tears stinging the corners of her eyes before they began cascading down her left side of her face.

"You left me alone."

The cecilias swayed steadily in the crisp night air, poking her exposed skin at where she laid, as if trying to comfort her from her loneliness and emptiness as she silently cried, curling up on herself. She was intangible as they were, her soul longing for someone far out from her reach.

"You lied to me."
