Chapter Twenty Two: A New Champion

POV: Hope, age 27

I froze. A Titan had just appeared out of thin air. It was of no class that had ever been seen before. It was glowing white, just like the Traveler's Light. It stood there, looking at the frozen scene. It then took aim at a Titan.

A shell casing hit the ground. A Titan blew up. Then, the new Titan punched the Titan that had me pinned. It blew up. That was when the Imperials snapped out of their trance.

They all aimed at the new Titan. It didn't even try to dodge the shots, it took them face on. Smoke covered the scene as rockets hit the ground.

The Titan walked out of the smoke and began to shoot the Imperials. It wasn't scratched at all. Even when hostile Pilots stole all of its batteries, it continued to fight. Nothing could stop it. It destroyed the Imperials in seconds. Then, it looked at Hammer and I.

"R-reactor unstable. Explosion eminent. Disemb-b-b-b-b-b-bark, P-p-p-p-p-ilot."

"No. I'm not leaving you, Hammer!"

The new Titan raised its hand. Void Light began to dance around Hammer and I.

"Reactor stable. Hull breaches repaired. Condition: Nominal."

What? Hammer just told me he was about to explode. The hell is going on?

The Titan pulled me onto my feet. I finally found words to say.

"Who are you?"

The Titan looked right at me. "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I am the first Titan ever and I will be the last. I am the Traveler's blade."

Everyone watched as the Titan walked away. It stopped, then looked back at me.

"Keep fighting, Guardian. You and your Titan are two legends, but they share one legacy. Go. Write a new chapter in your shared legacy."

It resumed walking away, then warped away. BT walked up.

"The fuck? Titan's can't be equipped with a warp generator."

I looked at Jack. "What about Warp Falls?"

He looked at me. "That's made possible by a ship's generator. We just can't stabilize a warp generator for a Titan."

I looked at the area the Titan had stood before it warped away. There was grass on infertile dirt.

Wait. Infertile dirt with grass? Holy fuck, that wasn't a warp generator.

"Jack, that wasn't a warp generator."

"What?"

"That was Light."

POV: Midnight

I flopped down on my bed. I had left my equipment inside Alpha-Omega. I laid there, struggling to slow my breathing.

THAT WAS SO FUN!

Champion. Calm down. Pretend that you weren't there.

Okay.

I closed my eyes and tried to go to sleep. I heard my door open and I slowly opened my eyes. Dad was standing there, in the doorway.

"Midnight? Oh my Arceus, you're okay!"

"Huh? Dad? Whuh happened?"

He hugged me. "Don't worry about it, okay? Just know the Empire's gone."

I looked at him. "Really?"

"Yes, really. You tired?"

"Mhm."

He set me back down, then pulled my blanket up to my chin. He brushed some of my hair away and kissed me on the forehead. He walked out of my room, and I was left alone.

I laid there for hours, the sun eventually slinking below the horizon. I felt my eyes flutter, but I still couldn't sleep. It was like something was keeping me awake. I got out of bed and poked my head into the hallway.

Clear.

I tiptoed into the living room and saw Dari sleeping on the couch. I opened the front door and exited the house.

Going a bit faster, I snuck my way into Iki Town. I heard explosions above me and I looked up.

MORE TITANS?!? What the hell?!

They slammed into the ground in front of me. I was sent flying and they spun around.

"Heh. Looks like our first kill."

They grabbed me and began to squeeze. I screamed out in pain and then a Angel destroyed the Titan that had grabbed me. I hit the ground and saw the world flash red. The Pilot got out and his Titan picked me up.

"Wounded secured. Pilot, we are outnumbered eighty to one. I advise falling back."

"Can't! They'll kill everyone here!"

I clenched my fists, then focused on the Light. It mended my wounds and heightened my senses. I closed my eyes and focused on the song that was Alpha-Omega's.

"Omega. Come to my aid!"

The Pilot looked at his Titan (probably at me, actually). "What?"

Omega slammed into the Titans before us. He grabbed the handle of his weapon and I bolted up.

I pushed against the Titan's hull and warped into Omega. I rolled my neck, then laid my hands down on the arm rests.

"Omega. Time to destroy."

I flicked my wrist and our rifle turned into a sword. I blocked a Laser Core and the invaders all took a step back. I smiled, then sliced a Titan in half. I danced from enemy to enemy, then finally holstered the weapon. I turned around and faced the one I left alive. I walked right up to him. He was helpless. I ripped the Pilot out of his cockpit, then crushed him. Omega ended the Titan's misery and I got out.

"Check-mate."

The mercenary looked at me in confusion.

"You're no normal girl."

"I know."

I walked back home, feeling tired. I froze when I saw my mom and dad on their knees, hands behind their heads. Pilots were holding guns to their head. They all looked at me.

"Midnight! GO!" My dad yelled at me before he was hit in the back of the head by a Pilot.

I didn't think, but acted. I sprinted over to a Pilot, grabbed his data knife, slammed him into the ground, then stabbed his neck. I pulled the knife out, then threw it at a different Pilot. It dug itself into their helmet and they collapsed. All of this happened in a matter of seconds.

The Pilots finally reacted. They took aim but by then, Omega was close enough. I created a holo Pilot on the spot, then warped into my Titan. The Pilots shot the hologram, then looked around. Omega and I slammed into one of their Titans and they freaked out.

"Shit! It's Alpha-Omega! Run!"

Not on my watch.

I raised my hand and felt a strange power rush through me. I froze them in place and the Pilots began to sputter nonsense.

"Omega. Delete them."

Omega began to glow white. Pure Light rushed off of him and the world went white. One everything dimmed down, the Pilots and their Titans were no more. I looked down at my parents and they were gaping.

"M-midnight?" My mom was terrified.

I climbed out, then rushed over to hug my parents. Then wrapped me in their arms and I sighed. "I became a Pilot a while ago. I had snuck out of the house, then when I was at Mahalo Trail, a Sith tried to kill me, but a Warlock stopped her. The Sith threw me into the river, but that was when I had a vision. It was of me chasing an eagle, with the different subclasses for every Guardian flashing past us. I then went on a crusade and found Alpha-Omega here. I had also talked with the Traveler. I'm now the Champion of the Traveler."

Dad squeezed me tight. "Midnight! Don't go running off like that, okay? We were worried sick, especially when those Pilots came and threatened to kill us. We.... We were afraid of what you might have found."

Alpha-Omega walked over. It knelt down and looked at my dad. "Do not worry, Sun Rising. Your daughter is perfectly safe." Alpha-Omega was currently in its "Alpha" mode and its voice was feminine.

My dad was about to say something, but my mom's phone ringing cut him off. She pulled it out and took several steps away.

"Mother? What's wrong?"

A pause.

"Wait, is that gu-?" My mom froze. She slowly put away her phone and when she turned around, her eyes were huge.

I instantly knew what was wrong.

"Alpha! Subroutine Omega! Warp into a UNSC ship and prepare for Titanfall!"

"Understood." He stood up, drew his rifle, then warped away.

I began to sprint. I closed my eyes, heard the biological song of my grandmother, then ripped a hole in space-time. With a bound, I entered the fray.

I kicked the Pilot who was holding onto Lusamine. I grabbed her knife, then threw it at a grunt. He fell to the metal floor, then some grunts turned and saw me.

"We've got a Pilot over here! Take her out!"

I launched a grapple hook and flew over to a wall. A Pilot ran right into my line and I launched myself over to him. I gave him a vicious kick to the head and he fell down, suit offline. I began to hop from enemy to enemy, not bothering to draw my gun. Then, a Titan landed right in front of me. I was sent flying off the edge, but instead of hitting the water, I warped into Omega.

"Welcome back, Champion. Ready to fall?"

"Let's show 'em what happens when you mess with Alola!"

Sara Briggs, BT, Fire Starter, Z-3, and Hammer got ready to fall with me. Only Hammer was on Auto Titan.

We fell and when we hit the deck of Aether Paradise, all heads turned to look at us. I took a step forwards and Pure Light wings spread out from Omega's back. I bared our sword.

"We are Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. You stand no chance."

Omega, Laser Core.

Omega positioned himself and activated the devastating Core. We melted several Titans and my allies engaged the grunts. One of them got smart and began to strangle my grandmother, holding a pistol in his other hand.

"Fool."

I flicked my wrist and the sword turned into a sniper. Omega snapshotted him and Lusamine fell to her knees, panting for breath. We spun around and without looking, shot a Pilot out of the air. We flicked our wrist again and it returned to a sword.

We charged it with Arc Light and sweeped the ground, sending out a wave of Light. Titans charged us, and I smiled.

"Omega. Flame Core."

Omega holstered the sword temporarily and raised his hands. The ignited and he slammed them down, incinerating the Titans. One survived, but was Doomed. We grabbed the Titan's arms, preventing it from moving. Omega opened up and I ripped the hatch off the other Titan. The Pilot looked up at me in shock. I snapped his neck, then slammed him to the ground. I climbed onto the Titan's back, grabbed a battery, then leaped into Omega.

He shoved the Titan away, then crushed it with Light. We grabbed the fist of a Titan, then looked at them. They tried to yank their fist back, but couldn't.

"Omega. Hulk time."

Omega chuckled, then slammed the Titan back and forth, just like the Hulk did to Loki in that one movie.

"Punny Titan."

Omega threw the mangled Titan off the edge and then spun around. He grabbed a Ronin's hands as they tried to cut us. We swung the Titan over our heads and slammed its back into the ground. The Pilot began to get out, but we grabbed the Ronin's blade and slammed it into the Titan, pulverising the Pilot in the process. We snapped our eyes up and witness several more Titans hit the ground. The dust settled and I felt copper flood my mouth. APEX Predators. One of the Titans took a step forwards. Its Pilot partially got out. The taste in my mouth grew stronger.

Blisk laughed, then pointed a knife at me, which his Titan mimicked. "You kill me? You're better. I kill you? I'm better. Let's fight, just you, against me and my team."

Omega?

Yes Champion?

It's time to kill. No more mercy.

With pleasure.

Omega and I rushed forwards. Blisk sat down and lifted his gun. He and his mercenary friends began to shoot at Omega and I, but we took it like a champ.

We engaged in hand to hand combat with Blisk and he laughed.

"You have a sword! Use it, fool!"

"We don't need to."

Omega and I ripped out Blisk's reactor. Everyone gasped as we crushed it with little effort. Blisk tried to get out of his Titan, but Omega welded it shut. We then threw the trapped Blisk to BT to let him get revenge for his former Pilot.

"BT-7274. New mission for you. Kill Blisk."

BT looked at Omega and I. "With pleasure." He then pried the hatch open and grabbed the mercenary.

I turned my attention to the remaining mercenaries. I grabbed a Titan's broken and fused arm and slammed it into a merc, blowing them up. They then unleashed all their Cores at once.

Omega dropped to a knee, hand resting on the ground, and we patiently waited.

We absorbed their Core charge and then stood up. They all took a step back.

"What?? How-?"

I smiled and energy floated over to Omega. We were taking all Core charge from every Titan in the vicinity. BT, Hammer, Sara, Fire Starter, and Z-3 all fell to their knees, weakened from the sudden power loss. Omega and I flexed our hands.

"This is what happens when you mess with Alola. Omega. Oblivion Core."

A black orb began to grow. It was centered on our center of mass and it drained the Core meter in an instant. It paused, then violently expanded. It caved back in, going faster than light. The mercenaries were gone. I turned around and looked at my downed allies. Arc Lights danced around them, rebooting their systems.

"That's why we'll be the last Titan."

Fire Starter looked at us. She began to speak.

".... Remind me never to get on your bad side."

I chuckled, then walked over to my grandmother. She was lying on her back, staring at the sky. I got out of Omega normally (as in not warping out) and knelt by her side.

"Grandma?"

She rolled her head over to look at me. She gave me a tiny smile. "Middy. I'm glad you're h-here. Where's your mother and father?"

Hearth walked up. "Back at their family home, ma'am. You're badly wounded, let's get you shipboard. Fire Starter!"

His Titan walked over, then gently lifted my grandmother. Hearth tenderly positioned her in the seat, then hopped out of Fire Starter. She stood up and walked over to BT and Hammer. I watched as she walked onto a Widow and warp up into orbit. Hearth placed a hand on my shoulder.

"That was impressive. How did you do that thing?"

"What thing? The one where I atomized those mercenaries?"

"Yeah, that one."

"Well, Alpha-Omega there can swap between any and all Cores on the fly. Its unique Core is Oblivion Core. It requires a ridiculous amount of Core charge."

"'It'? What do you mean 'it'?"

I looked at the man who was somewhere in his forties, I think. "Alpha-Omega has two personalities. Combat and Aid. Combat is tied to its 'Omega' subroutine, where its voice is that of a man's. Alpha, or 'Aid', sounds like a woman because women generally sound more comforting."

"Weird."

"That's not the half of it. Omega and Alpha are so different, they're like two seperate Titans. When I first met Alpha-Omega, its subroutine wasn't set yet, so it had a simple mechanical voice."

"Damn. Is it confusing?"

"Nopey dopey!"

He laughed, then messed up my hair. "Now you sound like a young little girl! Keep that persona up. People will be weirded out if you act like a Pilot, cool and collected. Welp. Gotta scram. Take care!"

He ran off and I stood there, not knowing what to do. I looked around for a long time, then shrugged for no reason. I walked into the building, then stepped onto the elevator. I tried to press the button for "Conservation" but I was too small.

"Do you need help?"

I turned around. "Oh! Ms. Wicke! Y-yes, I do. Can you take me up to the Conservation level?"

She smiled, then stood next to me. "Of course. Where's your parents?"

"Out shopping. Hearth brought me here, but had to leave."

"Ah. I understand."

The elevator stopped and the safety railings came down. I stepped off, then waved at Ms. Wicke as she went back down. I turned around and saw a Gardevoir walking cautiously up to me.

H-hello?

I gasped. Telepathy?!

Hi? Can you hear me? I struggled to stay calm.

Y-yes. Who are you?

My name is Midnight Rising. What brought you here?

My trainer passed away. I want to find a new one, but can't seem to connect with anyone.

Really? I'm sure my dad'll love to train you.

Maybe, but- GET BACK!

The Gardevoir pushed me behind herself, and took a move, head on.

I gasped. "Oh no! Are you okay?"

She gave me a nod. I took a step forwards to stand right next to her.

"Alrighty. Let's tame these suckers!"

I know Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow ball, and Focus Blast.

"Gardevoir! Use Focus Blast!"

She used it and the attack exploded before it made contact.

"What the-?"

I felt my insides get slushed around, and I swore gravity was lowered. The air became distorted, then an Ultra Wormhole opened!

A black figure came out. The world dimmed and the Ultra Wormhole closed. The Ultra Beast stared at me. I took a step back, but the Gardevoir took one forwards.

Go. I'll hold this Beast back!

Aether Foundation employees came rushing up. They all sent out Pokemon, but they all fainted. I gasped.

"Gardevoir! Get back! Please!"

She looked at me, then rushed at me. She picked me up and we ran into a corner. The Beast followed us. It was five feet away when it stopped, then spun around. Nebula and Heleus were standing their ground against the beast.

The beast floated over to Nebula, then slammed it into the ground. It placed its hand on the legendary's head and Nebula screamed out in pain. Then, a bright flash obscured the scene.

The beast stood up, and fear consumed me. It had fused with Nebula! Moon had fallen down and was scrambling backwards. Daddy glanced at his sister, then at the strange Beast.

"Heleus! Sun St-"

The Beast grabbed my Dad's Pokemon, then pinned it to the wall. Heleus began to yell in pain as well.

"NO!"

I lunged forwards, but the Gardevoir held me back.

Another flash. When my eyesight returned, a bright creature floated where that Beast had.

Oh my Arceus, it fused with Nebula AND Heleus!

It looked at me. It floated over, then grabbed me.

"NO! YOU WON'T HARM ME!"

Without thinking, I used the Light. I warped myself somewhere. It was dark. And I was falling. I hit the ground and felt my entire body ignite with pain. My vision tunneled, but I clinged to consciousness with my finger tips. Four people hovered over me.

One of the people, a lady, looked at me in confusion. "What the heck? What's this?" She had orange hair.

Another lady, this one with purple hair, answered. "I believe it's a 'human'. I think it might have fell through an Ultra Wormhole."

A man with purple hair looked up at a tower. "I believe she is related to the disappearance of the Blinding One."

A different man, this one with a purple mustache, bent down, then stood back up. He had a strange pokeball in his hand. "Hmm. She might be one of those fabled Trainers. Oh, but she's bleeding. Dulse, bring her in and tend to her wounds."

The other man saluted. "Yes sir."

He picked me up and I finally lost my grip.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I awoke in a grey room. I groggily lifted my head, then let it fall back down onto a pillow. Someone walked over.

"Oh. You're awake. How do you feel?"

I groaned. A cold, wet rag was placed on my forehead and the headache started to fade.

"Better?"

"Yes, thank you. Who are you?"

"My name is Dulse. Your's?"

I opened my eyes. It was that purple haired man from earlier. "Midnight. Midnight Rising."

"Rising? That sounds familiar, but I don't know why. Ah, no matter. Tell me, where do you come from?"

I looked at him, confused. "Alola, why?"

His face lit up with shock. "Alola?! Really?!?"

My eyes darted around the empty room. "Uh, yeah, really. Where am I?"

He regained his composure. "Ultra Megalopolis. The Ultra Recon Squad found you laying in the middle of the street. Captain Psycho ordered me to tend to your wounds."

The tales Daddy told me as bedtime stories came flooding back to me. Ultra Megalopolis? Ultra Recon Squad? Captain Psycho?

I took a deep breath to calm myself down. "Are you... Dulse of the Ultra Recon Squad? I think you and my daddy talked one time."

Dulse began to scratch his chin. "Hmm, I think I remember talking to a human from Alola once before. I think I heard his name, as well. What's your father's name?"

"Sun."

A spark of remembrance flashed across Dulse's face. "Oh! I do remember talking to your father! But he was young back then, only 11 years old. Has that much time really passed in Alola?"

"Yes. My daddy's 26 now. I'm five."

"Huh. Very interesting. Well then, I don't believe you can walk yet, so rest up. You'll need it."

He got up and left. A strange Pokemon entered the room and jumped onto my bed. It cuddled up with me and I closed my eyes.

I need to get back to Alola, but first, let's see what Dulse has in store for me.

I rejuvenated my body with the Light. I stood up, then grabbed the pokeball that sat on a table. A Gardevoir was inside. I smiled, then pocketed the ball. Pressing against the door, I heard screaming.

Bursting through the door, I was met face-to-face with the Ultra Beast that had absorbed Nebula and Heleus. I clenched my fists and shouted.

"OI! LOOKING FOR ME?"

It spun around. The thing swung at me, but I was already gone. I had deceived it.

My hologram vanished. Then, I appeared and threw the Gardevoir's ball.

"Gardevoir! It's up to us!"

The Beast spun around. Then, it began to create a massive ball of light. The thing threw the ball high into the black sky, then a pillar of light slammed down on Gardevoir and I. I was forced to my knees, but I raised my hand to the sky, desperately trying to absorb the light.

Everything was smoking. I managed to look up and saw hundreds of surprised faces. With effort, I stood up. The Ultra Megalopolisian all gasped, and the Beast simply blinked, confused.

I pointed at the foolish Beast. "Gardevoir. Shadow Ball."

She blasted the Beast and it was sent flying briefly, but then blasted us with Moongeist Beam. Gardevoir was sent flying and skidded to a stop in front of me.

"GARDEVOIR! Get up! We can still do this!"

I tried to be as optimistic as possible. I felt a rush of emotions as my Pokemon stood up, then blasted the Beast again. I continued to cheer Gardevoir on, and then it happened.

A sort of cocoon formed around Gardevoir. She stayed in it for a while with nothing happening, but then, a flame appeared right above the cocoon. Gardevoir bursted out of the cocoon and she looked... different.

It took me awhile to realize what had happened. When I did, I gasped. "Gardevoir! You Mega Evolved! Now we can definitely beat this Beast!"

She looked back at me and nodded. She blasted the Beast, then wrapped an arm around me. I smiled at her.

"That Beast isn't getting up any ti-"

"CRO!"

My head snapped to face the direction of the cry. I gasped, then tripped. The Beast was still able to battle!

It lunged at me, then grabbed me. I could do nothing, I was too tired.

"No! Gardevoir, help me, please!"

The Beast began to move me to its mouth. I began to squirm harder, for all the good that did. Right as the Beast was about to bite me, around a billion attacks hit the Beast. It released me and I fell as it was sent flying.

My head hit the cold pavement, then I was pulled back by something. I looked up and saw Gardevoir dragging me. She was still Mega Evolved. She laid me down, then stood between me and the Beast. Every single Legendary Pokemon joined her. Any that could be Mega Evolved was. Dozens of Trainers stood behind the Legendaries. I gasped as I picked out several familiar faces.

Red's here, as is Hope, N, Blue, Country, Black, White, and several other Trainers! This is so cool!

I stood up, then stood off to the side of Gardevoir. I took in a deep breath, then everyone unleashed their signature move. Dust was flung high into the air, but I still felt like the battle wasn't over.

The dust settled and I was right. I felt something get placed into my pocket, and when I stuck my hand into my skirt's pocket, I felt a round sphere. I pulled it out and saw it was a strange pokeball.

I pressed it against my forehead, planting a wish of luck on it, then threw it. It touched the Beast's body, and it began the capture process.

One roll.

Two.

Three.

A long pause with nothing happening.

Click!

Everyone let out a huge sigh of relief. We had all been holding our breath. I walked over to the still ball and cautiously picked it up. The inside was cloudy, but a glowing ring around the hemisphere of the ball told me it was used.

With caution, I extended my arm. A Pokemon began to form and once it was fully formed, I gasped. I had caught a fused Pokemon.

The Beast turned around, then took a step forwards. I remained still. It came so close, I felt its breath. It wrapped its glowing wings around me, then lifted me onto its back.

It tilted its head up, then roared. An Ultra Wormhole formed and it leaped through. In no time, we stood in Aether Foundation's conservation area. I heard Moon and Daddy yelp, then I saw them sprint backwards. I stood up, leaned to the side, then waved at them. My dad's face was pure shock.

"WHAT? Midnight? What are-?"

"Daddy! Aunty! Relax! I tamed it!"

Aunty Moon looked at me with a mix of shock and confusion. "'Tamed'? What do you mean?"

I hopped down. "I caught it somehow! A unique pokeball appeared in my pocket, so I threw it in desperation. That was when this Beast got caught!"

My dad's Rotom Dex came out of his bag. "Holy-! Itzz Necrozma!"

Uncle Gladion ran up, Silvally in tow. "Wait, Necrozma?! That's a Legendary!"

Daddy looked at my aunt's husband. "Wait, what?"

"It is! But why is it glowing? I thought it was supposed to be black."

Moon rubbed the back of her neck. "It kind absorbed Nebby and Nebula. It was about to do something to Midnight, but she disappeared in a flash of light. There was also a Gardevoir, but she vanished, too."

Gladion helped my Aunt up, then looked at the Pokemon I had caught. I got down and my dad lifted me up onto his back. We stood there wondering what to do, when I heard beeping and tapping.

"Hmm. So, it seems that Necrozma has fused with some Pokemon. I think it's reversible."

We turned around and saw a man. My dad put me down, then gave the man a nod.

"Colress."

"Champion."

Daddy glanced at Necrozma. "Do you think you can seperate Nebula and Heleus from it?"

"Pardon me, but are those nicknames?"

Daddy's cheeks turned red a bit. "My bad. They are. Nebula's a Lunala while Heleus is a Solelago."

"Ah. Of course. I do believe I can separate them, but they might become wild. Be prepared for anything."

Colress pulled out a strange device, then pointed it at Necrozma. The device began to glow, then spark. It blew up and Colress clutched at his bleeding hand.

"Argh! How did that happen?!"

I watched as Daddy and Aunty fussed over the elderly man. I stood there for some time before realizing something. Light can work miracles. I looked at Necrozma, closed my eyes, and reached out with the Light. I found three entities, two whole, one broken.

I focused on one of the whole entities. It was hot as the sun.

Gotcha.

I imagined tendrils of Light wrapping around and pulling the entity away. I heard Heleus's iconic roar as it was freed from Necrozma. I continued to focus, this time on the other whole entity. It was cold, like the moon.

I wrapped tendrils around the entity's wings and pulled it away from the broken one. Nebula roared with joy once it was free. Then, I focused on the broken one. A voice greeted me.

Bright One, what have you done? I can't bring the light to Ultra Megalopolis now! The voice was angry and pained, like its body wasn't whole.

If you stayed fused with Lunala and Solelago any longer, Alola would have become dark, just like Ultra Megalopolis.

But I need their light! I can't live without it! It was pleading now.

You can. Tell me, what happened to fracture you?

It was quite for a long time. I tried to stop a fight between the two once. Their attacks broke me, I was shattered and my pieces were scattered all across Alola.

Can you still feel them?

Yes, they beg to reunite with me, but I can't reach them. They are buried deep underground, some even deep underwater. I can't reach them, and never will.

I can help.

I shifted my focus, casting my net far and wide. I found a limit to my sensing abilities, but I also found that I could hop on a Guardian's Light to cast my reach even further. After a long and grueling process, my entire vision was Alola. I heard the various songs of fragments waiting to be reunited with their original doner.

I wrapped my tendrils around every single one, then pulled them to me. I opened my eyes and saw Necrozma whole, once again. As much as I wanted to jump around and celebrate, the effort costed me dearly. I collapsed into my daddy's arms and it was a long time before I awoke.

I was in a warm bed. The room was white, so I must have been brought to Aether Home after I had passed out, or some other Aether facility. I heard a door swish open.

"Oh, you're awake." It was my aunt's husband.

I looked at him, flashing my perfect white teeth, a trait I had inherited from my mom. "Heya Gladi!"

He rolled his eyes. "Don't call me that."

He sat down next to me, then began to run his fingers through my hair.

"You okay? We've been checking up on you for the last three hours."

"Yeah, I am. I just over exerted myself."

He grunted. "Really? Or was it because you traveled through Ultra Space, unprotected?"

I thought for a while. "Yeah, that might also be a cause. But I'm fine now! Where's Necrozma?"

A look of regret washed over my uncle's face. "Unknown. It had stayed in the conservation area, but when your dad and I returned, it was gone. We think it might have teleported away."

I started to pout, but then a light bulb went on. "Where are my pokeballs?"

"Here."

He handed me Gardevoir and a white pokeball with a red ring. I gasped. "Necrozma has been stolen!"

"What?"

"Its pokeball is corrupted! Someone somehow stole Necrozma from me!"

Gladion bit his lip. "Fuck! Faba must have done it. But how?"

A phone began to ring. My uncle pulled out his phone and raised it to his ear.

"Hello? Put it on speaker? Why? .... Fine."

My uncle tapped the speaker button, then laid his phone on my bed. A man's voice began to speak.

"Am I on speaker yet?"

"Yes, you are. Midnight's here, as well."

"Good. Now, listen very closely. We of Team Snagem has snagged your beloved Necrozma. If you want it back, come face us in the Orre Region."

The call ended, then Gladion got another call, right after that. The number wasn't in his contacts.

My uncle answered the call. "Hello? Who's this?"

"This is Gladion Aether, correct? I am Professor Krane of the Orre Region. We've been receiving reports of a Necrozma running rampant in the region. I thought you would be the person for the job, it being an Alolan Legendary, and all."

I gasped. "Uncle! It must be my Necrozma!"

"Hm? Who was that?"

Gladion glared at me. "The daughter of my wife's brother. She had captured a Necrozma, but now it's missing. I was on the phone with a person who claimed to be a part of Team Snagem. Know them?"

I heard a gasp. "Snagem's on the rise again?! This is bad, I need to make a call. Come as quickly as possible, but be careful! I don't want your Pokemon getting Snagged, too."

The man ended the can and Gladi sighed. "Come on. We're going."

He snatched me up and before I knew it, we were flying to a far off region. As we flew over Hoenn, I saw it flooded.

"UNCLE! HOENN'S FLOODED!"

He looked down then cursed. "Ariel and Brendon will have to deal with that. We've got our own problems."

I sighed, then rested my tiny head on his big shoulders. I eventually fell asleep and only woke up when I felt us hit the ground.

"Who are you?"

A boy was walking over to us. He had a strange contraption on his left arm.

"I'm Gladion Aether. This is Midnight Rising. We're here at Professor Krane's request. Where's the Necrozma that's wreaking havoc?"

The boy lifted an eyebrow. "A Pokemon wreaking havoc? Let me travel with you, at least, for the time being. I don't kn-"

"NECRO!!!"

We all looked up to see Necrozma plummet to the ground. The boy rushed to our side, then peered closely at Necrozma. He then gasped.

"That's a Shadow Pokemon! But I thought Cipher and Team Snagem had been disbanded. Damn it. Can you guys help me weaken this Pokemon? I've got a trick up my sleeve as to how to calm this beast down."

I pulled out Gardevoir. "Alrighty. It's Psychic-Dragon."

Gladion sent out Silvally, then gave it a Dark Memory. "Good to know. Focus on those weaknesses!"

The boy sent out a Glaceon and we battered at Necrozma, eventually forcing it to the ground. The boy then grabbed a Pokeball in his left hand.

"Normally, Pokeballs don't work on owned Pokemon, but these aren't normal balls!" He threw it and it transformed mid air. It hit Necrozma and the capture sequence started.

"These are Snag Balls. They're created by this contraption I'm wearing. It's stolen tech. I'll give you back this Necrozo or whatever you called it, then I'll shut down Snagem, once and for all."

The ball clicked, then the boy picked it up. He sent out Necrozma, then cursed.

"I forgot, I have to purify a Shadow Pokemon first before it can be used normally. This'll be a while."

I cautiously walked around Necrozma until I was right in front of it. "Necrozma? Do you remember me? Please, come back, return to normal! I don't want to see you suffer!"

It shuttered, then grabbed me. The boy was taken aback, but he had a smile on his face.

"Dang! Fastest Purification ever! Nice one!"

"NECRO!"

It hugged me and I felt warm all over. I looked at my Uncle and saw he had one of his somewhat rare smiles on.

"Yay! Galdi, now that I've got Necro back, let's go help Ariel and Brendon!"

He frowned at me. "Don't. Call. Me. That. But fine, we'll go help Ariel."

He took to the skies and I followed after him. We flew fast and soon enough we began to circle Hoenn. There was a massive fight going on and Gladi and I were about to swoop in and help out when a Rayquaza was sent out. Ariel sprinted up its back, with the Magma Suit equipped.

She grabbed onto Rayquaza, then it shot up into the air. I looked up and gasped. A massive meteor was about to hit the planet!

Ariel flashed past me, and I saw her thrust her left arm into the air. Rayquaza Mega Evolved, then I heard Ariel shout a command at the top of her lungs

"Rayquaza! DRAGON ACCENT!"

It roared, then blasted into the meteor, shattering it. I began to smile and cheer for Ariel, but stopped when I saw a red dot, falling through the skies.

I gasped. "Necro! That's Ariel! She's unconscious! We need to save her!"

Necro glanced at me on its back, then bolted to catch the falling Champion. We flew as fast as possible, but she was too close to the sea. She was about to die.

"No!"

As I reached out for her, Necro did something amazing. It opened a Ultra Wormhole and in the blink of an eye, we've caught Ariel. I smiled widely and began to thrust my fist into the air.

"Yeah! We did it Necro! We saved Ariel!"

It snorted, then flew over to the massive battle that was raging on. There were two Groudons, and two Kyogers. When Necro slammed into the ground between them, was there a pause in the battling.

I slid off of Necro, then it gave me Ariel. I sprinted off to the side and was met Brendon.

"What the- wait, Ariel?! What happened?"

Brendon took Ariel from me and I began to breath raggedly. I am not cut out for all this excitement. "She fell off of Rayquaza, and I managed to catch her before she hit the sea."

He looked at me surprised, then shook his head.

"Wha-? Doesn't matter. What does is that I stop Maxie and Archie from destroying all life!"

He ran up to a Groudon. He took in a deep breath, then gave it a solid nod.

"Quake! Precipice Blades!"

The Groudon roared, then the other Groudon and Kyogre were stabbed with dozens of rock blades. They staggered back, but then unleashed a full blown assault on Quake, sending it flying. The Kyogre glanced at the fainted Quake, then launched dozens of orbs at the legendaries. They took it, then sent the Kyogre flying, too.

Bredon's eyes grew large with fear. "No!"

I looked around for Necro, but didn't find it. It then slammed down in front of me, protecting me from a full blown move from the Kyogre. Necro was glowing bright.

Wait! That gives me an idea!

I looked at Gladi, who was dragging Ariel away. "Gladion! Let me borrow your Z-Power-Ring!"

He glanced at his bracelet, then me. He took it off, then tossed it my way. "Be careful!"

I caught it, then slipped it on. Then, I faced Necro. I slipped a unique Z-Crystal into the bracelet, then got ready for a Z-Move.

"NECRO! THE LIGHT THAT BURNS THE SKY!"

It prepared for the Z-Move. I did the pose and felt my essence get pulled away, but I kept strong. Necro was filled with power, then it unleashed the devastating move.

It summoned a massive ball of light, that I powered up by adding my own Light to it, then it shot the ball up into the sky. It came down in a massive pillar that engulfed the Groudon and Kyogre.

The dust settled and I was greeted with two downed Legendaries. They struggled to get up and I frowned.

"Necro. Finish them off."

"NECRO!"

It used Photon Geyser and fainted the two Pokemon. Maxie and Archie walked up and I frowned.

"Team Rainbow Rocket. I should have guessed. Titan?"

I turned around and looked at the Militia backup. A Titan walked out of the forest, minigun spinning.

"Yes, Trainer?"

"Make sure they can't get away."

"Will do."

I gave Necro a nod and he whisked me away. Before we knew it, we were back home.

POV: Ruby, age 13

Sapphire and I were at it again. There we were, standing face to face, shouting random stuff at each other.

"I'M GUNNA BE THE BEST THERE EVER WAS! I'M GUNNA BEAT MY SIS!"

Sapphire snorted. "You and what army?"

I bared my teeth at her. "I'll be a Trainer, just you watch! What are you aiming to do, any ways? Be a movie star?"

"Shut up! I'm going to be the best Contest Spectacular Trainer there ever was!"

I snorted. "Should have guessed. That's such a girly thing to do."

"SHUT YOUR STUPID MOUTH RIGHT NOW, MO-"

"Guys! Guys! Calm down! Nothing to get all so revved up about."

Brendon, Sapphire's older brother, walked up. We immediately bit our lips and stormed into our homes. My dad and mom were sat at the dinner table, talking, when I barged in.

Dad leaned back in his chair. "Let me guess, you got into a heated argument with Sapphire again?"

"Yeah."

I stormed up the stairs to my room and sat down on the bed. I remembered sharing this room with my older sister, Ariel, back when I was a toddler. She had moved out around five or so years ago. Now, she's in Mauville City, specifically Mauville Hills. I was still sulking when Brendon came up. He leaned against the wall.

"What do you keep arguing about with my sis? I'm not mad or anything, just confused."

I sighed, then leaned against the window. "Conflict of interests. I wanna be a top-notch Trainer, while Sapphire wants to be a Coordinator."

Brendon laughed. "Is that really what you keep arguing about? Just have a friendly competition between you two. Give yourselves a deadline to complete your goals by. Ariel and I did that once, although it was only a friendly race through the skies."

I snorted. "Like that'll cool us off."

He raised his hands, as if to calm a raging Taurus. "Trust me! It will!"

I rolled my eyes, then laid down on the bed. "Right. Sure. Fine. Like that will keep our rivalry at bay."

He exhaled sharply, with frustration. "Having a playful rivalry is fine and all, but one so heated? Not good. Cool things down with a competition. Who knows? Maybe you'll come to appreciate her."

He winked at me, then let me be. I rolled my eyes.

"Psht. 'Have a competition.' 'Cool things down.' Yeah right."

I sighed, then fell asleep. In no time at all, I woke up to the sound of heavy feet stomping outside my home. I glanced at the clock on the wall.

12:03? Who's stomping around so early in the day?

I rolled out of bed and tiptoed down stairs. No one was around. I walked outside and was faced with a man. He had a glowing red helmet on. He looked at me, then cracked his neck.

"Well well well. Look what we have here. Our first victim in this pitiful town."

He pointed a gun to my head.

"Tell us what we want to know."

"O-okay."

He chuckled. "Good boy. Where is the best place to mine here?"

"Uh, I don't really know. This town really isn't suited for mining. Try Dewford Town, there's a cave near by with several uncommon minerals. Be cautious of Pokemon, though."

"Huh. Welp. Thanks for your input. We'll be going, but not without taking a few lives."

He pulled the hammer back, then was vaporized.

"Not on my watch."

I looked to my right and saw a Legion-Class Titan. Its minigun was spinning.

"Kid. Get down."

Fear creeped into my bones, but I forced myself to the floor. They began to shoot and I covered my ears. A shell casing hit me and I yelped. The heat and size of the casing filled me with pain, but I forced myself to stick to the floor. After a while, I heard nothing.

I cautiously looked up to see the Legion casually reloading its rifle. It opened up and a Simulacrum leaped out. It helped me up, then looked me in the eyes.

"Are you okay? I heard you scream out with pain during the fighting. What happened?"

I rubbed my back. It was still hot from the casing. "A casing hit my back. It still stings."

The Simulacrum nodded. "Ah. A simple accident. My bad. Take care."

They walked over to their Legion and I heard him mutter something.

"I really miss FS." Wait, isn't FS Hearth Everlasting's Titan?

He climbed into his Titan and started to walk away. He froze when he came face-to-face with Fire Starter.

She raised her gun. "Who are you?"

"A merc."

Fire Starter eyed the Titan cautiously. She looked behind him and saw wreaked Titans.

"Why are there destroyed Titans behind you?"

"The Remnant Fleet tried to take over this town. I was on site when a Pilot was about to execute this boy here. I saved him and the town."

He gestured at me with his hand. Fire Starter slightly lowered her gun. ".... I don't know why I am inclined to trust you, but I guess I can. You could have been wreaking this town right now, if you really wanted. Thanks for saving the citizens, by the way. Do you want something from the Militia, as compensation?"

The Legion lowered his gun. ".... Yeah, I do. Is it okay if I get a Vanguard or Monarch class?"

Fire Starter completely lowered her gun. "Why?"

"I... am more accustomed to a Vanguard. I guess a Monarch will be similar enough to a Vanguard for me. But I would really appreciate it if I receive a Vanguard Titan. I'll be waiting close by this town for a confirmation." They began to walk away.

Fire Starter simply stared at the Titan for a while. Right as it began to get awkward, Fire Starter whispered a name.

"Terra?"

The Legion froze. It slowly turned around and looked at the Vanguard. "FS."

There was a really long pause. A Pelican landed and NOBLE filed out of it, then lowered their guns, confused at the scene. Hearth walked up to his Titan.

"Fire Starter? What's going on here?"

Fire Starter said nothing. It was the Simulacrum who spoke.

"It really has been a long time, hasn't it, FS?"

Hearth looked at his Titan, then the merc, then back at his Titan. "Fire Starter? You okay?"

Fire Starter holstered her rifle. "Terra. We thought you were dead."

The Simulacrum got out of his Titan. He walked right up to Hearth and Fire Starter.

"I did die."

Hearth's rifle fell out of his hand. The entity of NOBLE watched the event unfold. Fire Starter dropped to a knee.

"Terra. How-?"

He lifted his hand, shushing the Titan. "I had a chip in my skull. It was connected to my brain. When I transfered your link to Hearth, I activated the chip. Vinson Dynamics made me into what I am now. I do not resent them, as a matter of fact, I thank them, but I do miss Piloting a Vanguard. The only Titan I could get my hands on was that Legion there. Piloting her just isn't the same."

Hearth glanced at his Titan, then placed a hand on the Simulacrum's shoulder. "Terra. When you were turned into a Simulacrum, why didn't you return to the Militia?"

"I felt like my fight with the Militia was over, but my fight with the IMC wasn't. I tried to find the 6-4, but couldn't. Now, I'm a wanderer, jumping from job to job. I appreciate Legion finding me a new body when my old one was destroyed."

Hearth picked his rifle up, then holstered it. "Legion? Don't you mean Stone?"

Terra glanced at Hearth. "You know his real name?"

Hearth chuckled. "Of course I do. He's been dating my daughter for several years, now."

Terra grunted. "Figures. Hey, FS?"

Fire Starter looked at her former Pilot. "Yes, Terra?"

He looked at his old friend. "How have you been keeping Hearth safe?"

"Heh. Good enough. He's usually the one protecting me. I've also completed that mission you gave me before you passed away. You know, throw him around from time to time?"

The Pilots laughed, then Terra climbed into his Titan. "Glad to hear. Keep each other alive, okay? I've got to go. I hope we meet again, someday."

The Titan closed up and Terra began to walk away. A Spartan walked up to Hearth and placed their hand on his shoulder.

"You going to be okay?" It was Lightning.

"Yeah, I'll be fine Lightning. Thanks for worrying, by the way."

Sarah Briggs walked up. "I heard that conversation. I'll get the former commander what he wants. You guys should really take a break from running around, scrambling to protect the people. We'll take care of that."

Hearth gave his commander a nod. "Thanks for thinking about us, but we still are Spartans. The UNSC expects us to be ready to respond to a deployment in a snap of the finger."

Briggs smiled. "About that, ONI contacted me. They said you have been off the radar for a while. They tried to contact you, but couldn't. They told me that NOBLE's been deactivated, for a while. Of course, you will be reactivated in a while, but for the time being, you're off the hook. Take care and do what you want, okay? You've earned this break."

Hearth took a step back in shock, then shook his head. He began to chuckle. "Great to hear, Sarah. Well then, be seeing you. Fire Starter?"

She jumped, then spun around. "Huh?!? Oh, woops. Yes, Pilot?"

NOBLE began to chuckle. "We've been given a vacation. See you later."

Fire Starter gave her Pilot a nod, then stood besides Briggs. NOBLE walked back onto their Pelican and took to the skies. I watched them vanish, then yawned. Briggs spotted me walking back to my home.

She stopped me. "You there, come here, will you?"

I glanced at her, then walked up to her. "Yeah?"

"Who are you?"

"Name's Ruby. Ariel's sister. I was saved by that merc when the Remnant Fleet attacked."

"Ah. Well then, go get some sleep. Don't worry about all this, the Militia will have it cleaned up by sun rise."

I gave her a groggy nod, then walked into my house. I stumbled up the stairs, then collapsed into a ball on the middle of my floor. My dad found me.

"Geeze, did you fall asleep here?"

"Hum? Oh, woops. Yeah, I did. Woke up around midnight. I don't know when I fell back asleep."

Dad laughed. "Well then. Prof. Birch told me that he has some very special Pokemon in his lab. Why don't you go and meet them?"

I bolted up. Special Pokemon in his lab?! That can mean only one thing! "Sure thing, Dad!"

He crossed his arms and laughed. "You've been waiting for this day forever, haven't you?"

"HECK YEAH! I've got tons of Pokeballs and potions in my bag!"

I sprinted over to my dresser. Dad laughed again and walked down stairs. I swiftly changed into my everyday clothes and slung my bag over my head.

I sprinted down the stairs, scarfed down my breakfast, then bolted out the door. I immediately heard someone scream. Rolling my eyes, I sprinted to Birch's help. I was about to shoo a Poochiana away when I realized something. This was no Poochiana.

It was an Ultra Beast.

It turned and looked at me, then screamed, baring its poison tipped tentacles. The Beast looked like a jellyfish.

"Oh crap."

I turned high-heel, then ran. I slammed into Sapphire.

"OW! WHAT THE HECK, RUBY!?"

"No time! RUN!"

I grabbed her hand and sprinted into the forest, the Beast right on our tails. It wrapped its tentacle around my leg and I fell. Sapphire screamed when she turned around.

"GO! Save yourself!"

Sapphire turned around, then screamed again. I looked at her and gasped. Another Beast had grabbed her and was now trying to brutally pull her apart. A burst of gunfire was the only thing that stopped the Beasts.

A Titan sprinted over and the Beasts tried ripping off the limbs of the Titan. It threw the Beasts off, then spread its arms wide.

A Laser Core activated and vaposised the Beasts. The Core ended and the Atlas Pilot got out to check on us. A female Pilot sprinted up.

"Are you two okay? I heard about you guys running into the forest to lose those Beasts. I knew you guys were helpless, so I dropped. You're lucky the 6-4 was in orbit."

Gates pulled me up, then Sapphire. She caught my friend when she began to fall. Sapphire's skin was a sickly white.

"Damn it. That Nihilego stabbed her. I'll get her to Aether Paradise. You go back to town."

I began to slowly back away. "O-okay. Thanks for the help, Gates."

"Any time."

I walked back to town and found Gladion Aether and Sun Rising battling two Ultra Beasts. They swiftly finished them off, then threw special balls. Gladion glanced at me.

"Hey there. We saw you sprint into those woods with a girl. We also saw that a Beast was chasing you. What happened?"

I wiped away a line of sweat. "The Beast caught me and I told my friend to continue running, but she was grabbed by another Beast. She was getting torn apart while I was being threatened to be stabbed when a Pilot saved us. She vaporized the Beasts, then extracted my friend. She had been stabbed by a Beast."

Sun walked up. "She'll probably be brought to Aether Paradise. We'll take care of her. All Beasts have been eliminated here, so you can carry on with your day. Take care."

The two Alolan Trainers took to the skies with Charizards and I briefly waved at them. Professor Birch walked up to me.

"Hello there. I've got something to give you. How about we head into my lab?"

"Sure thing!"

I followed Birch to his lab and was faced with three Pokeballs.

"Choose one."

I took a deep breath. Even I thought about this day for years, it's still hard. Which one?

I made my decision and reached for the ball.

Today is the day I become a Trainer.
