Chapter Nineteen: A Place to call Home

POV: Sun, age 20

I was working alongside Feathers, attempting to secure various joints, when someone whistled. I climbed down from the rafters and walked out. Hau was standing outside, looking at the fairly large house I had built.

"Dang Sun. Think it's big enough yet?"

I laughed, then placed a hand on my friend's shoulder. "It is, right now, but if I start a family, I think I'll need to expand it!"

We both laughed. We knew I was kidding. (It was humongous!) Hau took a walk around the house, and nodded his head in approval.

"Can I come in?"

"Sure. Not much to see. Just watch your head while in here. Feathers and I were locking down numerous joints when you came. He's still working."

"Cy?" You talking 'bout me?

We both laughed. Feathers was sticking his head out of a glassless window!

"Yeah, we are. I was just telling Hau to watch out because you're still working. Nice going, by the way."

Feathers stuck his head back in the house and I entered with Hau on my trail. I showed him the various rooms that I've planned out, but I froze when I saw a staircase going down.

"And thi- wait. That staircase shouldn't be there. I didn't plan out a basement."

Hau jumped up lightly. "Hey! We can think of this as some kind of adventure! Let's go find out where this leads! You go first."

I chuckled, then (with Lycanroc's ball in my hand) creeped down the stone stairs. As we neared the bottom, I heard a Pokemon cry out.

"LU!"

I poked my head around the corner and saw Lucario punching at the rock wall.

"Lucario? What are you doing?"

Lucario froze. It turned around and began to dig its foot into the ground. I knew it was nervous.

"Luu."

I wanted a basement to train in. Sorry.

Hey, It's okay. Just tell me next time, okay?

I gave Lucario a pat on the back, then walked back upstairs. Hau was confused.

"Dude, what happened?"

"Lucario wanted a basement to train in. So he decided to make one."

"Oh. Neat."

I continued the tour, then heard Feathers call out.

'Heh. Looks like the house is done. I mean, I still have to get furniture in here, but that can easily be remedied."

Hau grinned, then pulled out a Pokeball. "I can help with that."

He sent out Alolan Raichu and it surfed around his legs.

"That's right! Raichu's a psychic type!"

Hau helped me buy, transport, and install the various appliances and furniture I'd need to live in my new house. Utility workers came over and swiftly installed it to the power, water and gas grid.

"There you go! Take care in your new house!"

"Thanks! You've been a huge help, everyone has!"

The workers walked away, and Hau lingered a bit longer before leaving. Feathers and Lucario both embraced me and I laughed.

"Guys! Can't. Breath!"

They let me go and I took a deep breath. Soon enough, someone knocked on my door. I opened it and saw it was Lillie.

"Oh, hey Lil! Hau just finished helping me with sprucing up the house. It's connected to the grid."

Lil walked in and took a look around. When she found the kitchen, she gave me a skeptical look.

"A kitchen? You don't cook, Sun."

"I might not right now, but I can learn."

Lil laughed, then resumed exploring the house. She found numerous empty rooms, a library, the master bedroom, several bathrooms, and the attic. We returned to the master bedroom and sat down on the bed. She hugged me, and we kissed.

"When you plan, you plan for the long term, huh?"

"Yep. Also, you missed a room."

"Wait, I did? Where is it?"

I got up. She did too, curious, and I led her to the library. I walked over to a bookcase, then pulled her to me.

"Sun? Why did you bring me here?"

I smiled, then nudged some books aside. Hidden in the shelf was a tiny button. I pressed it and a false wall moved away. Lil gasped, then looked at me.

"What's this for?"

I held her hand and led her up the spiraling staircase. I didn't show Hau this because he doesn't know of my secret life. I led Lillie up to a seemingly dead end. She began to look for some hidden button.

"Walk forwards."

She looked at me like I was insane. I smiled, then backed up "into" the wall. She gasped, then followed after me. We stood at the entrance of an office. Lil began to run her hand along the wall and found the second hologram I had set up. She looked at me with a sly smile.

"Where does this lead to?"

She walked in and I followed. The Division logo was painted on the wall and several guns lined the walls. She looked at me.

"Just in case?"

I nodded. "Just in case. We'll go in here only if we're being attacked, or if we're activated. The other room is for when we're activated and have been assigned as Analytics."

"Ah. Well then. What weapons have you stowed away?"

"Several R-201s, some Glocks, several snipers, shotguns, frags, flashbangs, whatever we would ever need for an op, with plenty to go around. Also, the walls are reinforced, so if shit happens, we can shelter an entire family up here."

"Uh, what about food?"

I tapped a button on the far wall. A panel sid to the side, revealing plenty of food.

"Preserved. Won't go bad until oppened."

Lillie slowly nodded her head. She looked around at the preparations I had gone through.

"You really are prepared, aren't you? You have everything planned out."

I shrugged. "Well, not everything."

Lillie laughed, then kissed me. "Really? What haven't you planned?"

"The future."

Lil rolled her eyes, giggling, then pulled me back into the office. We walked down the staircase and I closed the bookshelf. We sat down in the master bedroom, talking about random stuff. Glancing out the window, I saw the moon rising.

"Hey Lil. It's getting late. You can stay with me for the night."

"I think I'll take you up on that. I'm going to take a shower first."

"Fine by me. You do you."

Lil left the room and I got changed for bed. Lil walked in minutes later, a thin shirt covering her body. She climbed into bed with me and we kissed. We rolled around in the large bed, then eventually fell asleep. Before we did, however, Lil whispered into my ear.

"I love you Sun. I wanna be with you forever."

I whispered back. "Me too."

She giggled, then burrowed her face into my shoulder. We drifted to sleep and a thought crossed my mind.

I need to get rings. I need to propose to her.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was walking around in Konikoni City, looking for Olivia's shop. I fiddled around with a notebook that rested in my hands.

I'm sure she'll understand.

"Alola, Sun! You looking for someone?"

Kahuna Olivia walked up to me.

"Oh! Kahuna Olivia! I was actually looking for your shop. I see it's moved."

The Kahuna looked at me quizzically. "Looking to get something special for Lillie?"

"You can say that."

Olivia chuckled. She began to walk. "My old workshop is way too contaminated to be cured. I was either going to force my clients to wear a gas mask when they enter, or go to a different location. I obviously chose the latter."

I chuckled. "What about the plague? Can't it still get out?"

"Yes, it does leak out, but those Division folks installed what they called a 'ISAC Node' close to the door. It monitors for the plague and dispenses the airborne cure into the air when it gets too high."

"Huh. I didn't know that." Lie.

Olivia stopped in front of a new building. My AR HUD lit up. Division tech was close.

"So this is your new workshop?"

"Yes, it is."

Olivia waved me in and I followed. Olivia walked behind the counter, then leaned on the glass shelves.

"So. What is it you want?"

"A pair of rings."

Olivia lifted an eyebrow. "A pair of rings? Are you planning to-"

I took a breath in. "Propose? Yes."

Olivia smiled at me and chuckled. "That's wonderful, Sun! Do you have a design in mind?"

"Yes. I've already drawn it."

I handed her my sketchbook and she flipped through it.

"I must say, Sun, these are wonderful sketches you've drawn. But wh- oh! Here it is! Yes, I can make this, no problem. It'll be done in I don't know, a day or two? It'll be hard to find those kinds of diamonds, but I'll be able to."

"Heh. Those aren't diamonds."

Olivia looked up at me. "Really?"

"Yeah. I found these a long time ago." I placed two gems on the counter. They were spherical and had a rainbow colour to them. "I kept them for so long because I knew I wanted to do something with them, I just had no clue as to what exactly. Now, I obviously know."

Olivia chuckled again. She picked one of the gems up and examined it. "I've never seen gems like these before. Where'd you get them?"

"I found them in sitting on a beach one day. It seemed like either Arceus wanted me to have these, or someone dropped them and left them there."

"Hmm. Interesting. Either way, I should be able to make those rings in the day. It'll probably be late at night when I finish them. Mind if I take the sketch?"

"Go right ahead. Lillie knows I sometimes rip out sketches and hand them to little kids, so it won't seem out of place that I'm missing another page."

Olivia smiled at me. "You'll be an excellent husband, trust me. Take care!"

I dropped some money on the Kahuna's counter as a beforehand payment, then left the store. I looked around an took a deep breath of salty sea air. A lound clunging sound snached my attention.

I looked to my right and saw Vanguards walking down the street. BT-7274 was among them. The Titans stepped onto a massive platform, obviously built for entertainment purposes.

There was a few cheers for the Titans and the Pilots got out. More cheers. I smirked, then joined the crowd. A Pilot began to speak.

"Who here knows about the Titans?"

Everyone raised their hands.

"Who here knows about the Pilots?"

Again, everyone raised their hands.

"Who here knows about the unique link between man and machine?"

Several hands lifted up, including mine and a little boy's. The Pilot pointed at the boy.

"You there, come here."

The boy walked up onto the stage. The Plot had him hold a microphone and face the crowd.

"What do you know about the bond between man and machine?"

"Uhh. Th-the Pilots can get into their designated Titan and take control. With Titans, they can look through their Pilot's helmet, I think, and give them advice on how to proceed. Together, the two can overcome obstacles like massive walls or lowered bridges."

"That is partially correct. We Pilots have linked to our Titans. When we link, our minds get connected, so-to-speak, with the AI of our Titan. When we climb into our Titans, or embark, our actual bodies freeze up and the Titan's frame becomes our body. That's how Pilot controlled Titans are so fluent with their movements. We're actually controlling them. Our Titans aren't rendered obsolete when we take control. They monitor hull damage, tell us when our Cores are ready, point us in the right direction, and they help us with things like targeting enemies for a Acolyte Pod barrage."

The boy started hopping up and down. "Oh! I can tell you about Cores! They can do a variety of things. One can power up shot, one can make the Titan fly for some time, and another one can produce a massive beam of energy! What Core a Titan has depends all on what kit it's using."

"That is absolutely correct. My partner, the legendary BT-7274, uses the 'Expedition' Loadout. His Core is the famous Burst Core. It powers up our shots to make them deal more damage and it also buffs our DPS (damage per second) by increasing rate of fire and clip size. The legendary mercenary, Legion, uses a repurposed Vanguard class Titan. He usually uses the Legion kit only because that's what his Titan's used to. He must have taken such a liking to the loadout that he used the name for his own! The Legion loadout' Core is the Smart Core. The Titan accurately locks onto targets, allowing for easy elimination of hostiles."

I smiled, then walked away. The presentation continued, but I was no longer interested. I looked up at the sky, thinking about those in different galaxies.
