Thirty Five - final battle - part 3 - an end to the lunacy

Ashleen glanced over her shoulder and noticed several of the mutants slip away, disappearing quickly. This was great, she was going to be left on the losing side of this massive bout of stupidity. If she'd known she was going to wind up on the wrong side, she probably would have skipped signing on the dotted line and joining Lenny's idiot crew. Whether it meant losing her powers or not. She looked at the remaining mutants and caught Mirror and Althea's eyes. Out of everyone here they were probably the only two she'd trust to watch her back. The only other ones here that had a brain. Mirror was a mimic who could copy the appearance of anyone exactly. Althea was a healer and a chameleon. They were both good allies to have on her side if things went bad. And the way things were going, it would appear badly was in imminent danger of occurring. They were going to have to get the heck out of here. She knew if they managed to make it out of here unscathed, the X-Men were going to be their enemies. She turned her attention back to Lenny and the lunacy occurring in the place of an actual battle.

"You people are the source of all my problems!" Lenny finally decided, still sitting on the ground with Brittney trying to soothe him.

"Hakuna Matata, what a wonderful phrase, Hakuna Matata, ain't no passing craze, It means no worries for the rest of your days, It's our problem-free philosophy, Hakuna Matata," Mellissa and Angela danced like Timon and Pumba while Mellissa sang.

Ziva had the distinct feeling that if they pushed Lenny much further, he'd crack under the pressure and they'd win this entire battle without so much as a single punch thrown. It would go down in history as the single oddest fight ever.

"Come on Lenny don't be such a pansy. Stand up and fight," Ziva told him.

"Fight? Fight what! You people are acting like lunatics! And I am not a pansy!"

"Hmmm, he's right, Ziva, I'd go with chicken instead of pansy," A'Cadia put in.

"I am not a chicken!"

"Wait, wait, I've got one!" Craig called out. "I don't wanna be a chicken. I don't wanna be a duck. I don't wanna be a chicken. I don't wanna be a duck. So I shake my butt. Na na na na na na na na na na na na."

"And he's all yours, you must be so proud, Ziva," Mellissa said with a big fat grin as Craig sang and did the accompanying dance. Ziva slapped a hand over her eyes.

Lenny stared at Craig a moment before bursting into hysterical giggles. "For once I'm not jealous of you, De Leroy! That was exceedingly lame!"

"Shove it, Lenny!" Craig grumbled at him.

"No, no really De Leroy that was classic country there. You gonna start square dancin' next? Hit a hoedown or something?" Lenny was trying not to double over with laughter.

Angela did a quick change, pulling on a big fluffy tutu reminiscent of a square dancin' skirt. "Oh yeah, hit it, Death!"

She started clapping her hands, beside her, Mellissa groaned, and grumbled, "I hate this song it always gets stuck in my head!"

Angela ignored her and kept right on going. "Do the hoedown (Throw down!). Do the hoedown (Throw down!). Do the hoedown (Throw down!). Throw it all together, that's how we roll, Boom de clap de clap, boom boom clap. Come on, here we go! Boom boom clap, boom de clap de clap Boom boom clap, boom de clap. Pop it, lock it, polka dot it, Country fivin', hip hop hip, Put your arms in the sky, move side to side, Jump to the left, stick it, glide."

"When is this crap going to end?" Lenny groaned, looking skyward as if an answer was forthcoming from the heavens.

"Waiting for the end to come, Wishing I had strength to stand, This is not what I had planned, It's out of my control, Flying at the speed of light, Thoughts were spinning in my head, So many things were left unsaid, It's hard to let you go," Ziva paused for a moment and frowned. "Actually, I take the last line back; it's rather easy to let you go. Right over the edge of a cliff if need be."

Ashleen tipped her head, indicating to Mirror and Althea they should split, the two nodded in understanding. She gave a subtle flick of her fingers, returning Ziva's powers before she stepped back into the crowd and slipped away with the other two girls. Maybe returning the chick's powers would give the X-Men less of a reason to hunt them down. It was a small hope, but one she harbored none-the-less.

Lenny sat slumped on the ground looking defeated. "This entire event is a catastrophe."

"She's just a girl, and she's on fire, Hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway, She's living in a world, and it's on fire, Feeling the catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away." Mellissa sent a look back at Logan, smirking slightly. "Hey, Logan that song make ya wanna set any Pop-Tarts on fire?"

"Shut up. I never set them on fire"

"No, you didn't, you just turned them into bricks by putting them in the microwave," Ziva told him straight-faced.

Lenny struggled back to his feet. "I'd like to know when I lost control of this entire thing."

"You never had control," Mellissa told him.

"So, I noticed. It fell apart the second they decided to bring you along!" he snapped while glaring at her. The dogs released a low growl when he insulted Mellissa and he sent them a scowl.

"Thanks for pointing that out." She nodded to Death who began strumming his guitar. "Now I know that I'm not, All that you got, I guess that I, I just thought, Maybe we could find new ways to fall apart, But our friends are back, So let's raise the cup, 'Cause I found someone to carry me home."

"Do you know how much I hate you people?" Lenny asked.

"Not as much as we hate you, Dunk Tank!" Mellissa chimed in. "But I'm sure it's not near as much as you pretend to be cool. No way could it be that much. Because you are no way near as cool as you pretend to be. Because, in reality, you're a major loser."

Lenny spluttered incoherently for several seconds before he could form words. "I am cool you little brat! Just because you don't know cool when you see it—"

She cut him off. "Yeah, we'll be doing what we do, Just pretending that we're cool, So tonight, Let's go crazy, crazy, crazy till we see the sun!"

"Eww, Mellissa, really? One Direction?" Angela made a disgusted sound.

She shrugged. "Hey, it worked I had no choice in the matter!"

"The point is good, the song fit," Stevie replied.

Angela made some gagging noises and pretended to retch on Mellissa's shoes.

"You people make me sick. I can't believe that we can't even fight a decent battle without you turning it into a circus. I honestly do not belong anywhere near you freaks of nature!" Lenny said with a snort of disgust.

"Back off, I'll take you on, Headstrong to take on anyone, I know that you are wrong, And this is not where you belong," A'Cadia sang loudly.

By now, nearly all of Lenny's army had disappeared. Only a handful remained at his back. The Barbie triplets among them. Along with Doug, Prince Cinnamon Boots' groom (or whatever he was). As well as, a few other stragglers.

Ziva decided it was time to put an end to Lenny and his idiocy. "Lenny, in case you haven't noticed, your army has deserted you. You're pretty much on your own."

He looked around hastily and gave an anguished cry, falling to his knees again, while Brittney tried to comfort him. "It's really okay, Lenny. I'm still here. I'll always be here for you!"

"NOOOOOOO! Why me, why?" he wailed.

Ziva shot Craig a look. He gave a tired sigh and headed for Lenny.

Jeez, what a way to end things. A little anticlimactic if you asked him. Lenny hadn't exactly gone out in a blaze of glory. They'd driven him insane with a bunch of song lyrics. He shook his head as he stepped up beside a still griping Lenny and crouched down beside his former best friend.

"Sorry man, really I am. You may not have considered us friends but I did." He reached out and clasped Lenny's shoulder. "I'm sorry it had to end this way." He put him to sleep. How long it would last was anyone's guess, he hoped Lenny had some pleasant dreams while he was out at least. "He's all yours," he told Logan.

Logan came forward, stopped, and gave him a little slap on the back. "It'll be okay, kid."

Craig mumbled a reply that Logan wasn't at all certain of before heading back over to stand near Ziva. She gave him a little hug and a peck on the cheek, he forced a smile and hugged her back, but he wasn't feeling all that chipper. They'd won, yeah, but he'd wished they could have reached Lenny somehow instead of simply hauling him off and locking him away somewhere for the rest of his days.

They stood back and watched as Storm and Logan restrained Lenny and his remaining followers and called in help to get them taken away. It was going to be a long ride back to A'Cadia's house, after that, they could pack up and return to the school now that Lenny was no longer in charge.

What they're futures would hold, well that was anyone's guess.

Stevie was announcing the scores loudly as they headed back to the cars. "Mellissa came in first by a landslide, Angela second, Ziva third, A'Cadia fourth, Stone fifth, and Craig you were last. As if that was a surprise."

Craig made no reply.
