Chapter 1 ~ Animum Despondeo
Kevin was the first to walk in, and the first to pass out. Wolf was the last, however, to step onto the mist-shrouded walkway, mostly because she was wary of danger. That did not help, however. She blacked out like anyone else.
~~~
Wolf blinked open her eyes, gently batting the sleep out of them. Then she gave up and fell back onto her bed, the soft fluffy pillows... After about fifteen minutes, Wolf finally got out of the bed. She looked at her surroundings. She was in a simple room, no windows, and everything was plain white. There was a note on the table.
Hello. Find your way to the general dining hall.
Hm. Wolf saw two doors in the room, one jutting out and one in the wall. She pushed on the one in the wall and was greeted with a hallway, lit with candles and decorated with little red rose patterns on the wall. She looked down one end and saw more doors, presumably rooms for more people. Wolf looked down the other end and saw windows, tinted with blue, and a large sliding door.
"I guess that's the dining area," she mumbled, and walked over. Upon pushing the door open, she saw faces... Many familiar faces... Except that she couldn't link anything to them. When she walked in, they all turned to look at her.
"Hey!" A girl in a hoodie waved her over, and patted the seat next to her. "Sit here. It's the only open seat left, anyway." Wolf smiled and sat. The table was round and large, and there were -- Wolf did a quick head count -- nine seats and nine people exactly, including herself. A furry thing in a suit was having a heated argument with a boy with wings and blond hair.
"No!" the furry retorted, "I don't care about having 'giant' ears, but I still don't get how you can stand sleeping with those huge wingding things!"
"Well, maybe I get used to them because I had them since birth?" blond hair snapped back.
"And maybe I get used to them too!" furry said, crossing his arms.
"Bu-"
"ANYWAYS," a dark-haired boy cut in, earning sighs of relief from everyone, "Now that everyone seems to be here, why don't we introduce ourselves?"
"Okay," blond-hair boy replied. "Zero, Laniatus Level Fighter."
"Wait," Wolf cut in. "'Laniatus Level?' What's that?"
"We all have one. Just think," furry smirked. "Kevin, Laniatus Level Pokemon."
"Poppy, Laniatus Level Ender," hoodie-girl said.
"Rose, Laniatus Level Peacemaker," a blonde with one purple eye said, smiling and waving.
"Gentry, Laniatus Level Time-traveler," the boy with dark hair said.
"Sky, Laniatus Level Aviator."
"Lapis, Laniatus Level Archer."
"Kinley, Laniatus Level Dragon."
"Hero, Laniatus Level Dueler." Wolf's breath caught in her throat. Hero... He seemed the most familiar of them all. Hero turned to her. Wolf thought she saw a flash of recognition in his eyes, but no. "Who're you?" he asked kindly.
"W-Wolf, Laniatus Level... Elemental." Wolf answered. It was strange, the answer simply popped up in her head.
"Well then, seems like everyone's got to know each other, then," a new voice said. A girl was suspended in the air above the table. A smug little smile played on her face. "Hello everyone. My name is Theca. Welcome to Animum Despondeo! The rules of this mansion are simple. Kill or be killed! Oh, and every time someone kills, we'll have a nice investigation time, and then a test to see what happened! If you guess correctly who the murderer is, then they get brutally murdered by yours truly! If you guess wrong, then everyone else dies and the murderer gets to get out! Also, if you don't kill, then the Warper is coming to get youuuu! Have fun!" Theca laughed and disappeared.
Everyone looked at each other, horrified.
The trap was made.
They were doomed.
