13 - Unholy Roars and Unleashed Darkness
Nook sat by Gemini's side, her eyes fixed on his unconscious form. Worry etched lines across her forehead as she tenderly brushed a strand of hair away from his face. It had been nearly a week since Fourth and Captain left, and the weight of their safety pressed heavily upon her.
As Nook wrestled with her anxieties, she decided to retreat to her corner and write in her journal. It was the only thing that gave her some comfort in this bleak situation. She opened the worn leather cover and picked up her pen, ready to pour out her thoughts and feelings. But before she could write a single word, a sudden, sharp knock on the door of the shed startled her.
Carefully, Nook rose from her seat, her movements cautious as she approached the door. She knew better than to open it right away, as she had no idea who or what could be waiting for her on the other side. She had learned to be wary of strangers in this harsh world, where trust was a rare and precious commodity. She reached for the rusty metal handle, but stopped herself before turning it.
Instead, she pressed her ear against the door, straining to catch every word of the conversation outside. The voices were muffled, but she could make out the distinct sound of urgency and suspicion.
"Are you sure there are people hiding inside?" one voice asked, its tone laced with doubt.
"Yes, I'm sure. I met her a few days ago." The male voice replied, sounding scared and nervous.
Nook's eyes widened in recognition as she peered through the small crack in the wooden door. It was the same male student who had sought her help two days ago, his face etched with fear and desperation. Her heart sank as she realized that he had been coerced into revealing her location. Perhaps she should have turned a blind eye when she first heard his plea for help back then, but her kind nature couldn't bear to abandon someone in need.
Nook's mind raced as she realized the danger that lurked just outside the door. With a sense of urgency, she swiftly moved to barricade the entrance, pushing heavy objects against it in a desperate attempt to buy herself some time. She knew that if they managed to break in, her and Gemini's lives would be in immediate danger.
As Nook secured the barricade, the voices outside grew more agitated. The sound of frustrated grunts and thuds echoed through the air as the intruders attempted to force their way in. Panic threatened to consume her, but she focused on finding a hiding spot for herself and Gemini.
Frantically searching the small shed, Nook's eyes fell on a broken wooden crate in the corner. It offered limited cover, but it was the best option available. She carefully maneuvered Gemini's unconscious body into the makeshift hiding spot, positioning him in a way that offered some protection. With a final glance to ensure his safety, Nook squeezed herself into a cramped space beside him, her heart pounding in her chest.
Outside, the intruders grew more persistent. Their voices turned into angry shouts and threats as they continued their relentless assault on the door. Nook's hands trembled, her mind racing to come up with a plan. She knew that she needed to stay calm and find a way to survive this imminent threat.
The sounds of splintering wood and the forceful impact of the intruders' attempts to break down the door intensified. Nook's grip tightened on a small piece of metal she had found, her knuckles turning white. She knew that she might have to fight for her life, but her priority was to protect Gemini and find a way to outwit their attackers.
The intruders finally managed to break down the door. They stormed into the shed, their eyes scanning the room for any signs of life. Nook held her breath, hoping that they would overlook their hiding spot. She felt Gemini's presence next to hers, his chest rising and falling slowly, completely unware of the dire situation they were in.
Nook's hopes were dashed when one of the intruders spotted the crate and kicked it aside, revealing their presence. He let out a triumphant yell, grabbing Nook by her hair and dragging her out of the crate. She screamed in pain, dropping the metal piece she had clutched in her hand. She tried to resist, but he was too strong for her.
"Look what we've found," he sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "A pretty girl and a handsome boy. Our leader won't be interested in the girl, but we can certainly have some fun with her."
Nook's blood ran cold as their intentions became somewhat clear. Fear coursed through her veins, but she refused to show weakness. The intruders callously tossed Gemini aside, treating him as nothing more than an object. Nook's heart sank at the scene. She knew she had to find a way to turn the situation in their favor.
One of the intruders, who seemed to be the leader, took a glance at Gemini and realized he looked familiar like he had seen his face somewhere before. He kept looking at Gemini, trying to confirm his identity. Prat, his subordinate, noticed his stare and jokingly asked if he suddenly developed an interest in handsome boys. Leng snapped at him, annoyed by his remark.
"No, you idiot," he spat. "Don't you recognize him? Isn't that Gemini, the one khun Pha was looking for?."
Prat's eyes widened in surprise. He quickly moved towards Gemini, grabbing his chin and lifting his face up to see better. He then burst into laughter.
"We hit the jackpot. He's the one we're looking for. Khun Pha will be over the moon when we bring him back, he will definitely say good words about us to our leader, Khun Leo."
"Yeah, ever since that traitor Bang and his idiot friends escaped with some of our people, Leo has been furious. We've been paying the price for his betrayal, but this might get us back in Leo's good graces." Mew, the last of the three thugs, chimed in.
Nook felt a surge of fear and confusion as she heard the name "Gemini" uttered by the intruders. Why did they want him? However, she pushed that question aside and focused on finding a way out of this mess. She knew it was a long shot, but she had to try to reason with these thugs. She mustered up her courage and spoke up, hoping that they still had some humanity left in them.
"Please," Nook pleaded, her voice quivering. "We're just students trying to survive. We mean no harm to you or anyone else. Let us go, and we won't trouble you."
The thugs glanced at each other, exchanging smirks and laughter. It was clear they found Nook's plea amusing. One of them, a tall and menacing figure, stepped forward, his eyes filled with cruel amusement.
"Survive, huh?" he scoffed. "In this world, survival is all about power. And right now, we hold all the power."
Nook's heart sank at his words, realizing that reasoning with them was futile. They were driven by their own twisted notions of control and dominance. She needed to come up with a different plan, a way to escape their clutches and protect Gemini. She had promised to Fourth that she would do that.
Nook tried to struggle, looking around for anything that could help her. She spotted a container of cleaning powder for the campus swimming pools inside the shed. She grabbed it and threw it at the thugs, hoping to blind them. But her aim was off, and the powder only hit their clothes, leaving white stains.
The thugs were enraged by her attempt, and one of them slapped her hard across the face, making her fall to the ground. Mew pinned her down with his weight, while Prat approached her with a wicked grin. He reached for her shirt, intending to rip it off and expose her body. Nook screamed in fear, feeling helpless and violated. She wished someone would come and save her from this nightmare. The male student who she had helped a few days ago was frozen in fear, he just stood there watching every happen.
As Nook screamed in fear, her pleas for help echoing through the shed, Leng's eyes narrowed with irritation. He realized that her screams could attract unwanted attention, including the hungry horde of zombies that lurked outside. He quickly raised his hand, signaling Prat to halt.
"Enough," Leng growled, his voice laced with annoyance. "Silence her."
Prat, a mischievous grin still on his face, obeyed his leader's command. He covered Nook's mouth with his hand, muffling her cries. Nook struggled against his grip, her eyes filled with terror and desperation. She knew that her chances of escape were rapidly fading away.
Just as Prat began to tighten his hold, a bone-chilling roar reverberated through the air. The sound was unlike anything the thugs had ever heard before. It was a mixture of unearthly screams and guttural growls, sending shivers down their spines. The thug group turned around in shock, their faces contorting with fear.
In the distance, emerging from the shadows, a towering figure appeared. It was a grotesque and mutated beast, unlike any type of zombie they had encountered before. It towered over them, nearly three times the size of a man, and moved with unnatural speed. Its pale, grayish skin stretched over its bony frame. Its eyes burned with a sinister glow, hungry and malicious.
The thug group, usually accustomed to asserting their dominance over weaker adversaries, found themselves frozen in terror. They had never encountered a creature so horrifying and powerful. The mutated beast let out another spine-chilling roar, sending shockwaves through their bodies.
Nook seized this opportunity. With Prat momentarily distracted, she summoned every ounce of strength within her and managed to free herself from his grasp. She scrambled away from the thugs, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and hope. She knew that she had to take advantage of this chaotic situation to escape with Gemini.
While the thug group was transfixed by the presence of the mutated beast, Nook quickly grabbed Gemini's unconscious form and dragged him towards the shed's window.
During the chaos of Nook's attempt to escape with Gemini, the mutated beast closed in on the shed with astonishing speed. The thugs, realizing they were running out of time, made a quick decision to sacrifice the male student who had led them to Nook's location. With a ruthless shove, they threw him toward the approaching monster, hoping to buy themselves a few precious moments.
The mutated beast, driven by its insatiable hunger, pounced on the unfortunate student, tearing into him with savage ferocity. The air filled with the student's bloodcurdling screams, a horrifying symphony of pain and terror. The sight of the male student's gruesome demise sent shockwaves of fear through the remaining thugs.
While the mutated beast feasted on its prey, the thugs turned their attention back to Nook, who was still struggling to escape through the window with the unconscious Gemini in her arms. With their combined strength, they easily overpowered her, and forcing her and Gemini to the ground.
Nook's body collided with the hard earth, the impact jarring her senses. Pain radiated through her body, but her determination remained unbroken. She fought against the thugs, clawing and kicking with every ounce of strength she had left. But they were too many, overpowering her and restraining her movements.
The thugs, now in full control, prepared to make their escape through the window, leaving Nook and Gemini behind to face an uncertain fate.
Just as the mutated beast was about to lunge forward and the thugs were about to escape, they all felt a bone-chilling aura envelop them. Something terrifying was stirring from its slumber. Gemini, who had been unconscious, suddenly opened his eyes, which were filled with a dark and solemn glow. His body trembled with an otherworldly energy, causing the bone-chilling aura that enveloped the shed.
He had been awakened by the roar of the beast, which reminded him of the time Fourth, his charming boyfriend, had fought it to protect him. He thought Fourth was in danger, so he forced himself to wake up from his deep slumber. The air around him crackled with dark energy, twisting and warping the space.
The mutated beast, sensing the danger aura from Gemini, growled in response. It recognized the threat and charged forward, its monstrous form ready to strike.
Gemini's eyes burned with an intense and otherworldly power as he stared at the mutated beast. The creature, frozen mid-leap, seemed to tremble under his gaze. His voice, cold and filled with an air of nobility, cut through the tense silence.
"You have no reason to exist," Gemini spoke as if he was a mighty deity, and the beast was nothing but a mistake that he could erase with a mere thought. His words carried a weight that seemed to defy the laws of reality, resonating with a forgotten authority that transcended time and space.
As he uttered those words, the dark power swirling around him intensified, wrapping itself around the monster's twisted form. The creature convulsed and writhed, trapped in a vortex of dark energy. Its body contorted, unable to withstand the overwhelming force that Gemini commanded.
The thugs who had moments ago held Nook and Gemini captive watched in awe and terror as the mutated beast was consumed by the darkness. It dissipated into nothingness, as if it had never existed in the first place. The shed fell into a stunned silence, broken only by the breathing of those who had witnessed the incredible display of power.
