Chapter 11: Just Like Him
"Jungkook... do you... hear anything weird?"
"Hear what?" Questioned the android curiously as he tilted his head and longed to know what Jimin meant. "What are you talking about?"
"Do you pick up... a high frequency? Anything interrupting your sensors or-"
"No, I don't... are you okay? You need to get some sleep right now," Jungkook replied. Instantly Jimin tilted his head and became concerned; why was Taehyung the only one who could hear that disastrous high frequency?
"I... I don't get... I don't get it... you should-"
"Shh...you have to rest now, I will leave if you want me to," Jungkook mentioned and sat over a coffee table that stood right before the couch Jimin laid on. "I will lock the door behind me as I go... promise me you will get the rest that you need."
"Jungkook..." Jimin whispered and kept his eyes open to stay awake in hopes of making the android stay, but that only caused Jungkook to stand up. With the idea of Jungkook leaving and the fears of being watched in his sleep, it was enough for Jimin to quickly grab onto Jungkook's wrist and stop him from leaving completely. The second Jimin's hand locked onto the wrist of the android, Jungkook stopped in his place as his blue eyes fell onto the human's soft little grasps.
Jungkook's gaze remained glued onto Jimin's desperate touch; he didn't make a sound nor did he carry any emotion displayed over his charming face. His stare was as blank as a sheet of paper and his face carried no words like the empty pages in a book. With seconds drowning them further into an awkward silence, Jungkook only raised a brow and bit his lip intently until Jimin quickly pulled his hand away from the android. Suddenly, he became anxious the second he realized he had Jungkook's wrist underneath the palm of his hands the whole time he begged him to stay.
"Jungkook... stay... please..."
"You should be sleeping right now and I don't want to keep you up," Jungkook answered. Finally breaking away from the idea of Jimin begging him to stay. Quietly, Jungkook smirked as he stood and observed the details over Jimin's face right after he acknowledged how desperate he became to have someone protect him from his new fear.
"I... Please... stay here while I sleep... I...I can't sleep at all..." Jimin continued and looked onto the ground. Not even noticing that Jungkook was holding up a smirk. "I can't sleep..."
"You didn't need me yesterday night or any night before that. Why now?" Jungkook asked and continued to lock his gaze onto the human sitting anxiously the more this conversation went on. "Is there something going on, Jimin?"
"I... I couldn't... I couldn't get any sleep last night... and..." Jimin anxiously tried to put his words together but the memory of him clinging onto Jungkook's hand as he desperately begged for him to stay, completely blocked his mind and distracted him each time he longed to say something else. At this moment, he began to panic as he took pauses to look for the words in his crowded mind.
The second Jungkook caught onto Jimin panicking and trying to form words, the robot's smirk faded away as he finally kneeled down to the level of Jimin's gaze and held his hand carefully. Jungkook's caring blue eyes locked onto Jimin's gaze as he carefully kept Jimin's hands warm within his own grasps. Easing him with the little things that were enough to comfort him.
"Breathe... think of your words first... don't rush... and then say it," Jungkook spoke softly. The sound of the comforting tone to his voice was enough to make all of the thoughts in Jimin's mind become silent and allow him to finally breathe. Jimin let out a shaky breath and closed his eyes carefully before he thought of what else to say.
"I... can't sleep. I didn't get any sleep at all last night because... I-I felt like I was being watched..." Jimin spoke softly and couldn't dare to bring himself to look into the eyes of the android.
"No wonder you look exhausted... is that why you wanted me to stay? To protect you?"
"I'm sorry if it's too much to ask, I know we just became friends yesterday but-"
"No, it's okay! My purpose is to serve humans and make sure they're satisfied at all costs! Don't worry about it, Jimin," Jungkook assured and watched Jimin open his eyes yet, keeping his gaze latched onto the ground before him. "Don't overthink it. Go to sleep, I will be here to make sure you're safe..."
"Thank you, Jungkook..." Jimin whispered and slowly managed to look up at the android before him. The seconds their eyes met, Jimin began to have mixed feelings about the robot before him. He was comforted, yet nervous and always seemed on edge when Jungkook was around. Jimin was either too afraid to make mistakes before the Android's blue eyes or was drowning in the warmth of Jungkook's caring voice.
The android slowly moved away from the human as he watched Jimin lay back on the couch and close his beautiful eyes. This alone left Jungkook to tilt his head and look over to the hallway in which Jimin's room had to reside in.
"Wouldn't you want to sleep in your own room instead?" Jungkook questioned and kept the human up in order to answer the question. "Sleeping on a couch when you have a bedroom doesn't seem very comfortable."
"I... I don't want to get up..." Jimin replied and let out a groan. "I can sleep here..."
"Don't be like that, you need to sleep on an actual bed," the android claimed. Instantly, he approached Jimin and leaned over to hold his hand once again. "I can take you there... don't worry about walking all the way to the room, I can take you."
In seconds, Jimin's body was lifted from the couch once Jungkook carried him in a bridal style. This alone caused the human's eyes to widen as his hands quickly clung onto Jungkook's body in fear of being dropped at any second. Even if it wasn't possible, Jimin still had his doubts when Jungkook would claim that he would keep him safe.
"A-Ah- Jungkook!" Jimin sputtered and watched as Jungkook looked into his eyes and made him turn his face away. "I... I could sleep on the couch!"
"You don't have to, this is your home. If you feel as if you're being watched, I will be sitting right outside of the door and when you need my help, just call out to me." Jungkook's words seemed promising, yet, Jimin was still a little afraid of being alone. After an endless night of no rest, Jimin's mind was clogged and he just couldn't seem to make the decisions he normally would when his eyelids kept weighing down over his own eyes.
The second Jungkook reached the first door in the hallway, he took a guess on which room was Jimin's bedroom and stepped into a random space. The second he stepped in, his eyes met with a wide queen sized bed with white covers. Cracks of sunlight beamed in when the blue pastel curtains were drawn shut at all times. The second Jungkook stepped in, his eyes began to wander as he stepped forward with Jimin in his arms until he finally set him down on the bed carefully.
At this point, Jimin was too exhausted to look around or even say a word. The second his body met with the comfortable bed embracing his body, he drifted further into slumber while Jungkook was still setting him down on the bed. Jungkook's hands slowly released Jimin and carefully reached over to the bedsheets in order to tuck him in carefully and allow him to rest. However, the second Jungkook pulled away, his hand was met with Jimin's once again.
"Stay...." Jimin whispered. Managing to fight away his sleep for the last time in order to make the robot stay in the same room as him. Jimin just didn't want to put himself through that fear once again, so he made sure Jungkook wouldn't leave even after the second his eyes weighed shut.
Just those words were enough to leave Jungkook looking at the way Jimin's hand latched onto his wrist so weakly. Jungkook carefully raised a brow and lightly smirked as he carefully placed his free hand over Jimin's; tracing his fingertips along the soft skin of the sleepy human before him.
"I'm not going anywhere... don't worry, I will stay here with you..." Jungkook assured Jimin with a whisper. With the gentle rasp of his deep voice, Jimin remained silent and was swept away into an endless rest his body was yearning for all night. At the same time, Jimin was just too sleepy to realize that his hand remained locked onto Jungkook's wrist.
Normally, Jimin didn't know if he wanted his new friend to be his guard since he did have mixed emotions towards the android. Jimin was just too tired to use his brain to even worry about the what if's. Then again, Jeon Jungkook was an android; an android that was built to protect humans and never do any harm. So in that very moment, Jimin weighed his options quickly and realized that having Jungkook stay with him for that hour was better than risking another sleepless night to an unknown stalker.
Jungkook remained still as he kept his eyes latched onto Jimin's hand that never seemed to let go of the young android. The sight of it was warming to the android, but he could only raise a brow and scoff to himself. As minutes slipped him by, he could already hear the rhythmic pauses to Jimin's breathing. With the sound of his breathing being amplified in the Android's ears, Jungkook began to mimic it on his own and closed his eyes too.
The second he closed his eyes and mimicked the way Jimin breathed in his sleep, Jungkook took a few seconds longer until he noticed his own 'breathing' was off by seconds. This caused him to quickly open his eyes and reveal the red hue embedded within his gaze. The calm look in his eyes shifted into a serious and bothered glare; his eyebrows furrowed and the crimson hue in his eyes only doubled. Only then, he began to pull his hand away from Jimin's grasp and roll his tongue along his inner cheek.
"I'm such a fool...." Jungkook said to himself with a slight chuckle to diffuse the sudden burst of anger he had burning within himself. As he stood and watched Jimin sleep, he began to look around the room and touch every object he could get his hands on. He found framed pictures of Jimin and ran his hand along the back before setting it down and continuing with a few books he found over a small desk. "What's wrong with me? I'm such a fool..."
The android continued to repeat those words to himself until the crimson color in his eyes began to fade the second he looked in the mirror and realized that his eyes were no longer blue.
"Jimin isn't awake to see me like this... but I can't be too sure... I wouldn't want him to wake up and see that my eyes have changed color. That's something I wouldn't be able to explain to him if he becomes too curious... he's already as curious as he is..." Jungkook whispered to himself softly as he kept his eyes locked onto the reflection of him within the mirror. The more he looked further into the mirror, the more his eyes latched onto Jimin's reflection and counted the seconds he took in between every breath in his sleep. There, Jungkook copied it again in efforts to calm himself down to where he was able to stand by Jimin like before.
The android then closed his eyes once more and kneeled by Jimin's bed; fixing Jimin's hand to lock onto his wrist and finally putting his head down on the bed. Jungkook was listening to Jimin breathe as he had no issues copying it as if he had done this all before. When his eyes closed, his mind began to remain fixed on Jimin; he listened to his easy breathing and felt his warm hands latch onto his fake skin and that alone left Jungkook to open his blue eyes slightly and lock them onto Jimin while he slept.
"I shouldn't get upset that I can't do the same... but, I just wish I could breathe and sleep...just like him..."
