The Pull to Lucky People

Geoff's p.o.v
I was born this way. Everyone calls me free spirited. I just like nature. I often come to these woods for no particular reason. Sometimes I'm just drawn to it. As if a force is pulling me deeper. It's cool. I never resist.

Today is one of those days. I've felt it all day and the further away I move from the woods, the stronger the pull gets. As if someone tied a tender string around my heart and it led to the forest. Sitting in a classroom all day has been torturous.

The forest, of course, isn't entirely wild. There aren't very many of those left in the US let alone the world. It's a state park but it isn't exactly a tourist attraction. The rangers don't do maintenance on the foliage so the trees grow, which causes new paths for exploring. Other than my bed, it's my favorite place in the world.

Bouncing my leg up and down, I glance at the clock for the sixth time in the past 20 minutes. "You continuously glancing at the clock isn't going to make time move any faster you goose." My best friend, Corey Brooke, comments.

"I need to go Corey," I say anxiously. "The pull is stronger this time." My leg bounces more furiously now as the minute hand moves once more. Ten more minutes. Ten more minutes until freedom and bird songs.

"You're going to the park again, ParkBoy?" She teases. I grin at the nickname.

"Yeah. I want answers." I see her shake her head out of the corner of my eye. Nine minutes. I try focusing on the lesson but my mind drifts off to a song I've never heard before. Unconsciously, my fingers start playing the beat on my desk.

"Light us up until we pop
I wanna burn bright 'til we're not
Let's keep each other safe from the world.
I'll be your optimistic black hole
Full of love I can't control
Let's keep each other safe from the world
From the world..."

The song stops and I sit, wishing, waiting for it to continue. I don't know where it came from but I need to hear the rest. Two minutes. I look around and see others packing up. The teacher has stopped talking and was sitting on her phone. I can just go.

"Go." I hear Arwen, Corey's girlfriend, whisper.

"No." Corey scolds.

"Yes." I say as I pick up my backpack and head for the door.

"Geoff! You're grounded!" Corey yells as Arwen snickers behind her. "You too Arwen!" "Aww man!"

I chuckle and as I walk out of the classroom, the bell finally rings. Darn! Student rush hour is about to start! I take off running through the halls, my pounding feet not the only ones making noise. The entire school is about to explode with people. I don't know how we keep them packed in all day.

"My common sense is powerless and I'm convinced that you..."

Bursting through the door, I run to my car and throw my bag in the back. The pull is pulsating now. It's almost causing a throbbing feeling in my chest and I'm overcome with the urge to go.

Hopefully I don't run over any runners racing for a unicorn. What? It happened in a dream once.

I'm speeding down the road now, careful to pay attention to my surroundings, although the pull is slowly taking my senses. The song comes back.

"...have caught me, luck is just the half of it the better half of me that I couldn't quit 'cause now I'm flying 'cross the country more than monthly for you. You've got me more than clumsy but you're my yellow lovely."

It's such a sweet and soothing voice that I'm almost put at ease. I feel like the voice and the pull are connected. Now I'm finally going to find out.

I pull into the parking lot and jump out of the car, letting the pull take me wherever I'm supposed to. The throbbing has eased and the voice has drifted off. I'm almost there. I can feel it.

Pushing past bushes and branches, I finally find myself in a beautiful clearing. The pull has ceased and I'm not alone.

There, hovering slightly above the ground watering flowers, is a boy in a pink sweater and powder blue jeans, with a pink flower crown resting on his perfectly tousled blue hair. But the strangest part wasn't the outfit, or the hair, or the elf ears, or even the faerie-like wings protruding from his back. The strangest part was the song he was singing.

"Happy birthday, Merry Christmas to the one I call my missus I'm leaving you love notes in the kitchen that say it all. I know you said to mind my business but Cupid sent me on a mission that's got me sitting, wishing, waiting for your call."

It was the same melody.

He turns around and I'm star struck. He's beautiful. Is this love at first sight? I never believed in it before but I do now.

"Do you really love me?" His voice is smooth and feminine but still masculine enough to know he's talking. Wait. Did he read my mind?

"Yes of course I did. Is that any stranger than my appearance and this encounter?"

I shake my head, awestruck. He's so gorgeous. Uh oh. My gay is showing.

He giggles. A sound sweet enough to charm anyone around. He's so cute. The boy drops down from his space in midair and steps closer to me. "Could you do me a favor?" I nod immediately. I think I would do anything for him. "Could you answer my question from earlier?" I nod again.

"Do you really love me?" The blunette tilts his head slightly, the flower crown, somehow, not falling off.

"I do. I really do love you. You're so gorgeous." I don't know why I'm jumping right into this but for now it seems okay.

The boy smiles and bends to set the watering can down, his pale skin catching the light. Looking back up, I see he has heterochromatic eyes and they seem to fit so well.

He stretches out a sweater pawed hand as if to take something from me."Nice. My name is Awsten Knight. May I have your name?"
