Volume 1, Ch 3: Greetings from another world
A/N: Inspiration and similarity goes to USTrooper. Also, I don't own anything in this except my character.
Enjoy!

Destroyed settlement, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biêt), morning
Minh's POV:
While Itami rappels down to get the elf, Kurokawa rushes to me when I yell out corpsman.
Kurokawa: Is something wrong, Lieutenant sir? And why did you call me corpsman? Is that a US medic?
Me: Sorry, force of habit in the Corps. Yes, it's sort of a medic in the Corps, though technically they're actually navy personnel. It's either I call a medic that or yell it out in Vietnamese.
Kurokawa: Which is?
Me: Bác sỹ quân y. or for short bác sỹ.
Kurokawa: Well I wouldn't mind if you called me both.
Me: Well, uh, thanks.
Once Itami reaches the bottom and picks up the elf, he yells up to rappel him back up.
Itami: Pops!
One of the vehicles moves to get the rappel up to ground level.
Kuwabara: Slowly! Slowly!
Once Itami reaches the top with he elf right behind his back, he grunts due to the force of his back. Everyone gasps when Itami and elf come up.
Itami: We need a rescue! Hurry!
Me: Already one step ahead of you.
Itami: Not for a human, though. She's an elf.
Everyone: Roger!
We begin to set up the medical area in one of the vehicles. Once we were done, we set her on a temporary stretcher and Kurokawa brings out a sphygmomanometer (a blood pressure meter) and wraps it around the elf's arm. I, along with Kuribayashi help along with the elf, since I had some experience in Quân Y.
Kurokawa: Her vitals are steady. Take her wet clothes off.
Kuribayashi then proceeds to cut off her clothes with a medical scissor.
Kuribayashi: Sorry. I'll have to cut this off.
While Kuribayashi and I are helping and tending to the elf. Kurokawa stands up to give a report on the elf's status. In addition to that, I overhear the conservation between Kurata and Itami as Itami was pouring the water off his boots.
Kurata (laughs and is excited): It's an elf, Commander! And a blonde, no less!
I mentally smacked myself in the forehead for that. Have you never seen a blonde before? They're awful.
Kurata (continues): This is awesome! Hooray for the Special Region! (continues laughing) I sense good things coming our way.
Itami: Dude, you're into elves?
I see that Kuribayashi is done cutting her way through the elf's outer clothes, though probably because she loss some amount of blood, she's unconscious.
Me (to Kuribayashi): Hey Kuribayashi?
Kuribayashi: Hmm?
Me: Once Kurokawa gets back, tell her to hook the elf to have a blood transfusion.
Kuribayashi: Why?
Me: Because she's lost quite some amount of blood. That's why.
Kuribayashi: Yes sir.
I smile and her cheeks turn pink. I make my way to Itami and Kurokawa to hear them talking about the status of the elf's condition.
Kurokawa: Commander sir?
Itami: How's she doing?
Kurokawa: Her body temperature is returning to normal. She's out of mortal danger.
Itami: That's good.
Kurokawa: So, what do we do now?
Me (walking up to them): Kuribayashi and I are done patching her up, Kurokawa.
Kurokawa: That's good-
Me: But she's going to need a blood transfusion.
Kurokawa: Why may I ask sir?
Me: Because she's lost quite some amount of blood.
Kurokawa: Yes sir.
Itami: And then after that, I need a dry pair of boots!
Me: There's a spare pair of my boots in my vehicle. Go get it once you're done here.
Itami: Eh?
Me: Thank me later.
Itami: Anyways, the settlement's been wiped out. We can't just leave her.
Me: What are you suggesting?
Itami: Lets take her back as a refugee.
Kurokawa: I knew I could count on you to say that.
Itami: I'm humane, aren't I?
Kurokawa: Gee, I don't know.
Itami: Huh?
Kurokawa: I thought it might be rude of me to bring up the fact that you have some odd interests, or that she's an elf.
Both Itami and Kurata laugh nervously.
Me (stern): Kurata, that sounds like you.
Kurata: Eh? Why me?
Me: Dude, just admit it, I heard you talking about elfs when I was just patching her up with Kuribayashi.
Kurata (sighs): Fine..
Me: Good. Let's get going shall we?
Once we all get into our vehicles, Kurata leads the way by having us drive back to where we started. I hear everything that is going on in the lead vehicle via the radio.
Itami: We're now returning to Alnus station via Coda Village.
Kurata: Hey, commander.
Itami: Hm?
Kurata: We won't run into a dragon or something before we get to meet a cat girl, right?
Me (to Kuribayashi): Is Kurata crazy or something? He's worried about getting a cat girl then taking care of our refugee? Typical weeb.
Kuribayashi then laughs and giggles at my statement. I laugh briefly along with her.
Itami (to Kurata): Don't jinx it. What if that actually happens?
Coda Village, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biêt), early afternoon.
Village Chief: What? The settlement's been wiped out?
Itami (through his translation book): We saw a large bird. Forest and village burned.
Itami shows him the dragon via his phone.
Village Chief: A fire dragon.
Me (thinking): I knew it.
Villager #1: No.
Villager #2: It can't be.
Itami: Fire dragon breathed flame. Burned up many people. We saved one girl, though.
Itami then shows the Village Chief the elf we saved. I walk behind Itami.
Village Chief: Just this one girl? What a tragedy.
Itami: Can she stay in the village?
The Village Chief then sighs.
Village Chief: We can't take in an elf. Besides, we must flee this village while we can.
Itami: You abandon village?
Village Chief: We must.
All the villagers around start rushing to pack their essential things up into carts and prepare abandon the village.
Village Chief: Once a fire dragon tastes the flesh of humans or elves, it will keep attacking villages and towns.
The villagers continue to hurriedly prepare their belongings and food, breaking some glass along the way.
Random woman villager: Run for it everyone, everyone!
Random villager man and child: Aye maam!
Random woman villager: Alright!
The house of wizard Kato, on the outskirts of Coda Village, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biêt)
Third Person POV
A wizard by the name of Kato is getting all his books to pack before the fire dragon tries to destroy it all, and is having a hard time to do so, only being able to with the assistance of his student, a 15 year old girl named Lelei.
A/N: Credits to Gate wikia
Kato: Hey! Damnit! Damnit all!
Kato then stumbles and falls on the ground with books scattered around him. He then whines.
Kato: OW!
Lelei: Master, we can't carry anymore. It hurts!
Kato: NO! I NEED MY BOOKS! Lelei, isn't there anything we can do?
Lelei: Certainly, I believe we should prioritize the most valuable books.
Kao stands back up.
Kato: That's right. You sure are smart, Lelei. But why now? Damn that fire dragon! Showing up fifty years early...look at all the trouble it's causing us.
Lelei: I wish you would sleep already, too.
A/N: Fourth wall breaking for Minh here.
Minh: That's gonna hurt. (Bumblebee voice) Sting like a bee.
A/N: You're right, now we continue.
Kato: Huh? What do you mean by that? I'm not interested in mounting little girls like you!
Kato then laughs and blushes thinking of something.
Kato: I'd rather mount a curvy woman like your sister.
Lelei then summons her magic to throw Kato off balance and send him flying.
Kato: Stop! Magic is sacred! Don't abuse it!
After Kato gets knocked from Lelei's magic, she stops. Lelei and Kato then get on the wagon.
Kato: You sure can't take a joke.
Lelei: I blame you as my educator, Master.
Lelei tries to get the cart moving, but it was too heavy for the donkey.
Kato: He's not moving. We must be carrying too much.
Lelei: You were the one who said to pack all of this. This was to be expected.
Kato: Not to worry, I am a sorcerer, after all.
Lelei: Isn't magic sacred? Something to not be abused? Those were your words, Master.
Kato: But...
Lelei: But in this case, we have no choice.
She then uses her staff to life the cart up and the donkey gets moving after that.
Kato: Sorry.
Lelei: It's fine, I've always known that this is simply how you are.
Lelei and Kato arrive in the village when the convoy was stuck due to a wagon that was carrying too much.
Kato: What's going on up ahead?
Villager: Kato-Sensei! Lelei! One of the carts was carrying too much. It's axle broke, and it's blocking the way.
Minh (in foreign language to them): Helping with evacuations is part of your job, Itami! Go ask the village chief to move out. ĐI (LET'S GO)!
Itami: Got it.
Kato: I've never heard such a language.
Lelei: I never seen such clothes, especially the one in a different type than the others. (points at Minh in his MARPAT Woodland camouflage)
Minh and Itami run to the village while Minh yelled back at Kurokawa to make sure no one was injured.
Minh: Kurokawa, make sure no one's injured, got it?
Kurokawa: Yes sir!
Lelei: Master, I'm going to go take a look.
Kato: Wait, Lelei!
Lelei runs to the damaged wagon to see what is going on.
Coda Village, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biêt) afternoon
Minh's POV:
The convoy was stuck. All the villagers were saying that there was one cart that was holding too much stuff. Itami and I run to get the village chief for some help.
Me: Helping with evacuations is part of your job, Itami! Go ask the village chief to move out. ĐI (LET'S GO)!
Itami: Got it.
We both run out to get the village chief. Before that, I yell to Kurokawa.
Me: Kurokawa, make sure no one is injured, got it?
Kurokawa: Yes sir!
Lelei runs to go see what is going on. She sees that a wagon has toppled over and a girl is lying down with her family watching.
Kurakawa: This girl has a concussion. It's possible she has a fractured skull as well.
I run back just in time to see what was going on. A girl (who I would later learned was named Lelei) with blue hair is kneeling with Kurakawa. Just then, the horse was about to charge at both Kurokawa and Lelei.
Me: Watch out!
I fire 2 rounds from my AKM into the horse before the horse could charge. Once the dust settles, Kuribayashi, Kuwabara, and Itami then arrive.
Kurokawa (to Lelei): Are you alright?
Lelei looks at us with awe.
Lelei: They saved me.
A few minutes later.
I was sitting with Itami and Kurata when Kurata started talking, while Itami was grabbing a drink.
Kurata: Don't tell me we're going to be taking care of all these people forever. Aren't there any lords or royalty around here?
Me: About that...
Itami: I talked to the village chief about that. None of the lords in this region ever came back after they were sent to fight at Alnus Hill.
Me: That would sure make a lot of damn sense.
A/N: I going to skip the bandit part where Rory absolutely destroys them. But here's the video. :))
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
En route back to Alnus Hill with the convoy, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biêt)
Minh's POV:
I was sitting in front of Kuribayashi in the armored vehicle. Our vehicles had to go slowly so that the convoy can keep up with us. I hear Itami talking to Kurokawa on the radio.
Kurokawa: Her vitals are steady. She should regain consciousness soon.
Itami: Yeah..but man, this sucks.
Kurata: Do they have a destination?
Itami: Apparently not.
Kurata (shocked): They don't?!
Itami (sighs): Being on the run is exhausting.
Kuribayashi (to me): Well this is just getting boring.
Me: Well, we don't know where they're going, so I guessing that we have to run now before we can deal with other important objectives.
Kuribayashi: Yeah, you are right sir.
I put my hand on her shoulder for reassurance.
Flashback:
Some of the squad, including Kuribayashi and I were pushing a wagon that was stuck in the mud.
Kuwabara: Push it with all your weight!
Squad and me: (Pushing with all of our strength and grunting)
Kuwabara: Show them what you're made of!
Me (yelling): Keep going!
We managed to push the wagon for some way out of the mud. But the axle of the wagon was broken, so it couldn't run with a horse anymore. That's a shame. It was then that Itami and Kurata went down with Kuwabara and I to inspect the broken wagon.
Kuwabara: No good Commander, the axle is broken.
The village chief shakes his head.
Village Chief (to a villager): We would only be waiting to die if we stayed. Shoulder what you can and keep going.
The villager and his family look down because of the fact that they were going to have to ditch almost all their belongings, due to the broken wagon.
I see that Itami goes the villager and puts his hand on the villager's left shoulder as reassurance.
Villager: All right..
We then burn the wagon while the villager looks on with his family as they are in tears of what just happened in there very own eyes.
Back to the present:
Kurokawa (through radio): Why did you make them burn it?
Itami: They refused to keep moving.
Kurokawa: Can't we ask for backup vehicles?
Me (muttering so only Kuribayashi could hear): Well if the Vietnamese Army was here then yeah.
Kuribayashi (to me): Wait, they can do that?
Me: Yeah, it's much more simple there than it is here.
Kuribayashi: Now you're making me want to join either the US Marines or the Vietnamese Army, sir.
Me (laughs): I'll think about that later. For now though, we have to make due.
Kuribayashi: Yes sir.
Itami (to Kurokawa over the radio): We're techinally past the front lines. They might let us off the hook, but the enemy might move of we brought a large unit here. And then it'll be spontaneous battles, more unplanned combat, and runaway military costs. Before you know it, there will be destruction, and the villagers will be caught in the middle. Just thinking about it is terrifying, apparently.
Me (to Kuribayashi): Even though our commander can be an a*s sometimes, he is spot on on that statement. The unspoken rules of war.
Kuribayashi: Right, sir.
Kurokawa (to Itami on the radio): So you were told huh?
Itami: That's why the most we can do is to give them a hand. Wait..huh?
Kurata: Someone's coming up ahead.
I then hear Itami yell out on the radio when he spotted something.
Itami: A Gothic lolita girl.
Me (to Kuribayashi): Great, this is going to fun (gets ready my AKM). Kuribayashi, get ready your rifle.
Kuribayashi: Why sir?
Me: Because we might have to head out with the commander and see who this "gothic lolita girl" is.
I peak out of our vehicle and see what was going. I strapped my rifle to my side just in case if anything happens and I might have to go full on Việt Cộng mode. I see that the girl was slowly walking towards Itami's vehicle.
Lolita girl: Where do you come from? Where are you going?
Itami (on radio): What did she say?
Kurata: I don't know
Kurokawa: She appears to be a child.
The children inside Itami's vehicle rush out to greet her.
Children: It's the oracle!
Me (thinking): Huh, what oracle?
Children: Oracle! Oracle!
Itami: Oracle?
Lolita girl(to children): Where did you come from?
Children: From Coda Village. We fled from the village. There was a fire dragon. We had to run.
Kurokawa (over the radio): They appear to be praying to her.
Itami: So there's some religious reason for that weird outfit?
Me (over the radio): Apperantly, Itami.
Itami: Right, Lê.
I saw then that the unknown girl was looking at Itami and slowly approaching his vehicle.
Lolita girl: Who are these strange people?
Child #1: They saved us. They're good people.
Unknown girl: So you aren't being forced out of your village.
Child #1: Nope.
The lolita girl then starts scanning the vehicle. Makes sense since we are in a different world.
Lolita girl: How does this move?
Child #1: i don't know. But it's a way comfier ride than our carts.
Me (thinking): Of course it is. At least you're enjoying it.
Lolita girl: Oh? A comfy ride, huh?
The lolita girl then licks her lips and starts speaking to Itami.
Lolita girl: I'd like to see how it feels to ride it, too.
Itami then starts to speak Saderan to her.
Itami (in Saderan): Hello, how are you?
She then proceeds to hop into the vehicle. Phew, at least no chiến tranh du kích (guerrilla warfare) today.
Few minutes later:
I hear Itami struggling with the "lolita girl" and hear the whole conservation over the radio. I think that girl was sitting on Itami's lap. Hmmmmmm....very suggestive Itami. I laugh
Itami: Wait a second. This is a really tight fit. Move, please.
Kurata: That's no fair, Commander!
Itami: Just get off!
Lolita girl: Oh?
Itami: Hey, don't touch the pistol! I said don't touch that!
Kurata: NO FAIR!
Itami: I'm not enjoying this. (to lolita girl) I told you not to touch it!
Kurata: NO FAIR!
Itami: JUST GET OFF ALREADY!
I was laughing the whole way along with Kuribayashi. We then fell asleep due to being tired from both pushing the wagon and just doing our jobs during the day. Before I fell asleep, Kuribayashi leaned on my shoulder and I smiled quietly before I fell asleep as well.
En route back to Alnus Hill, late afternoon, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biêt)
Minh's POV:
I wake up after my short nap to hear the radio again. I figured I would listen in if something were to happen. I see that Kuribayashi is still sleeping peacefully, so I try not to wake her up when I hear the radio.
Itami (over radio): It's Roche Hill. We've walked that far?
Kurata: The scenery's starting to change, huh?
Itami: Yeah. We're pretty far from the village now. I wish this evacuation was over already.
Kurata: No kidding.
Itami: Isn't the sun hotter here than in Japan?
Me (thinking): No sh*t, it might as well be another Middle East here now that you reminded me of it. Thanks...
Itami sees the fire dragon. I see as well, so I jolt Kuribayashi awake.
Me (to Kuribayashi): KURIBAYASHI, WAKE UP!
Kuribayashi: Huh? What's going on?
Me: There's that fire dragon again!
Me (over the radio): MAN YOUR BATTLE STATIONS!
Me (to Kuribayashi): Kuribayashi, take the MG, I'll get the RPG!
Everyone around us is running away in panic, while our vehicles are directly engaging the fire dragon. Everyone around me is trying to fire 7.62x51 and 50 cal. rounds at the dragon, but it does no effect to the dragon.
A/N: Credits go to USTrooper.
Kurata: We don't stand a chance against the flame dragon!
Itami: But the 50 cals aren't cutting it either. Sh*t! What do I do? Wait...
Itami (over the radio): Minh, are you there?!
Me: Yeah, kind of need some help over here!
Itami: Did you bring the RPG?
Me: Yes, I did!
Itami: AIM FOR THE EYE!
Me: OKAY THEN, THANKS!
Me (to Kuribayashi): Kuribayashi, you keep distracting the dragon, I going to bring out the big gun.
Kuribayashi: What are you implying, sir-Ohhhhh.
A/N: RPG-7V1 above.
She sees my RPG as I load a rocket into it.
Itami (over radio): All units, aim for the eyes!
The dragon is then blinded by the amount of bullets going into its eyes.
Itami: It stopped! Katsumoto!
Katsumoto aimed the Panzerfaust 3 at the dragon, but he forget to shoulder check.
Katsumoto: Oh wait. Shoulder check.
Everyone including Kuribayashi and me: Do that first!
Katsumoto fires the Panzerfaust, but misses.
Me: Goddamn Katsumoto! You had one job! ONE JOB! Fine, I'll do it myself!
I peek through the window and aim my RPG (B41 cho người Việt) through the sights to get a lock on.
Me: Locked on.....
I get ready to fire the RPG. As I do I yell out.
Me: MÀY! CHẾT! ĐI! (YOU DIE!)
The Lolita girl then gets out the lead vehicle and jumps onto it and leads my rocket to the dragon, making it a direct hit onto the dragon.
Me (over radio): All units! All units! Chúng rồi Chúng rồi! (Hit!)
The vehicles then stop as the dragon flies away.
Itami opens the door to his vehicle and he slumps back down.
Kurata: I-is it over?
Itami: I think so.
I slump back into my vehicle seat.
Me (to Kuribayashi): We did good Kuribayashi.
Kuribayashi: It was all thanks to you sir. (she smiles)
Me: (smiles back and I scratch my head)
Aftermath, nighttime, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biêt)
Minh's POV:
Us and the remaining villagers were mourning the dead that had come from that battle. The ground was filled with purple light. I see that Itami comforts a little girl who was crying due to losing both her parents in the onslaught.
I go to Kuwabara to see what happens to these survivors.
Me: What now, Kuwabara?
Kuwabara: Most of the survivors are going to relatives nearby, or take refuge at a village or town somewhere.
Itami walks up to us.
Itami: I doubt they'd know anyone there, though. Are they gonna be all right?
Me: I hope so...
Kuwabara: They have bigger problems.
Itami: Kids and old folks with no families. And casualties.
We then walk up to the village chief to decide what's next.
Village Chief: I'm sorry to be so cold, but we have to take care of our own, too. We can't afford to take care of them, as well.
Itami: Will you leave them?
The village chief then takes off his hat.
Village Chief: We sincerely thank you.
The villagers begin to leave after that, with whatever they have left. We all wave bye to them.
Kuribayashi: Bye! (she waves)
Villagers: Bye! Thank you! You saved us!
Kuribayashi wipes tears off her face. I then put my hand on her shoulder and she looks up at me and I smile. She then leans onto my chest and we both continue to wave goodbye to the villagers. I hear Itami and Kurokawa talk about us behind me.
Kurokawa (continues waving): The Lieutenant and Kuribayashi sure look cute with each other. Maybe they were meant for each other.
Itami: Yeah, they sure do.
A/N: I ship Minh and Kuribayashi too :)))
Kuribayashi and I blush at their comments.
Me: You okay now Kuribayashi?
Kuribayashi: Yes sir. Though I feel safe in this position. Can we stay like this a little longer?
Me (chuckles): You can.
Kurokawa continues talking to Itami.
Kurokawa: So what do we do, Captain Itami?
She and Itami then look at the remaining people who were left. Itami sighs and puts both of his hands on his hips.
Itami: Oh well. Don't worry. Leave it to us.
Itami then looks back at Kurokawa.
Itami: Huh? Why are you all acting like that?
Kurokawa: Nothing. (looks closer to Itami) I just knew you'd say that.
Itami: I'm humane, aren't I? All aboard! We're headed back to Alnus!
Me: Alright, let's go then!
*insert ending theme
A/N: Well that was chapter 3 of this story. I hope that you enjoyed it!
Have a nice day!
