chapter three
Getting ready
Cora and Needy had met up almost immediately after school ended so they could do everything they needed to before getting picked up by Jennifer. The Lesnicki girl was the one to keep her two best friends on track and out of trouble. Sometimes, it didn't help much but the pair was thankful for it anyways.
"My feet are killing me already, is it seriously too late to bail tonight?" The Amato girl asked, groaning as she kept walking forward.
"Very late." The blonde replied, nodding her head lightly.
"Why can we never say no to Jen? It would save us a lot of trouble." Cora blew a few strands away from her face, letting out a frustrating sigh.
"Because she's our best friend." Needy shrugged lightly, her arms wrapped around her books.
"That's your answer for everything, isn't it?" The Amato girl questioned, a slight grin on her face.
"Not everything, but most questions? Yes." The Lesnicki girl laughed at that, turning around the corner they needed to walk down to reach their destination.
"At least I know you're a loyal friend." Cora rolled her eyes at the thought of all the tremendously horrible and fake people in the world. "Those barely exist anymore."
"I know." Needy rubbed the back of her neck, not wanting to bring up the awkward conversation about to ensue. "I told Chip you are coming over before I left school."
"And?" The Amato girl turned toward her best friend, furrowing her brows slightly. "Did he have a problem?"
"Kind of." The blonde nodded as she spoke, looking towards the ground. "He was just mad because we were supposed to hang out and then you wanted to come over and—"
"Reason one I don't like that little dickweed." Cora rolled her eyes yet again. "He is so annoying, you need time with your friends you can't just hang out with him all the time, you'd die of boredom."
"He didn't mean it in a bad way, he hates Jen more than you." Needy replied, letting out a sigh as they got closer to the red heads house.
"Because Jennifer is a bitch." The Amato girl laughed at that, shaking her head slightly. "But it makes her Jen so, I love her for it."
"Right." The Lesnicki girl replied dryly, following behind her best friend as they entered the rusted metal gate for her home, there was already broken glass as they walked along the path, both of them letting a sigh for what what was to come.
"Be careful, I don't want you to get cut." Cora swapped places with the girl, now walking behind her as she dodged her way through the glass shards. "Dad had a major breakdown after the funeral, let his friends come over and wreck the place."
"That's a thing that older men do?" Needy raised a brow while they both walked up the decaying steps, the Amato girl opening up the front door.
There was laughter in the house, meaning that there were men there, men that neither girls wanted to even deal with.
"These older men." Cora replied, rolling her eyes as she placed a finger over her mouth, trying to hush the other girl and keep her quiet until they got upstairs.
The girls walked upstairs together as quiet as possible, passing by Frank and his friends. Once they finally crept all the way up, the two made their way to the red heads room. It was a dark vibe, rock band posters and black paint covering the walls.
"I just want to get in and out as fast as possible." The Amato girl sighed, going directly to her closet where she had a bag of getaway clothes. When her parents decided to act like parents, she would sneak out and go to Jennifer's house with it.
"Are you sure you don't need anything el—"
"Nope, let's just go." Cora shook her head, feeling such a bad energy in her own home that she wanted to cry.
The red head burst out through the door as quickly as she could without another word.
Every little comment Chip would make as the girls tried on different outfits made Cora want to blow her brains out. He was just so negative, and honestly, the girl was getting more and more tired of it by the second. Not to mention, he kept staring at her in her sports bra which made her feel super uncomfortable.
"Okay, fine." The Amato girl sighed, pulling on a nice shirt over her head. She was already wearing a mini skirt, and would most definitely be putting on a leather jacket over the top of it all. "I am ready, have you come to a decision yet, Needs?"
"Almost." The girl put a tank top over her long sleeve shirt, looking carefully into the mirror.
"Those jeans are hella low, I can almost see your front butt." Chip commented, making the red head roll her eyes.
"It's a rock show, this is my rock look." Needy responded, about to lose her patience with the boy, before she excitedly turned to show him her shirt.
"Don't be mad that your girlfriend is hot and you aren't going to be with her tonight." Cora smiled sarcastically. "Accept it, live it, love it."
"Well, I can see, like, her womb so.." the boy trailed off, making yet again another comment that was not necessary at all. "I've never even heard of low shoulder. Which one is Jennifer stalking?"
The Amato girl sat on the bed as far away as she could from Chip as Needy tightened her belt, her leather jacket next to her.
"The lead singer, girls like her don't go out with drummers." The blonde answered, making a valid point.
"Yeah, that's one million percent correct." Cora concurred, folding one leg over the other.
"Thanks a lot." Chip replied to them awkwardly, was he a drummer? The red head never cared enough to ask.
"I didn't mean it like that, she'd probably make an exception if you were like, a drummer who's also the lead singer." Needy corrected.
"Hypothetically, not someone like you buddy." Cora reached back, ruffling the boys hair as he swatted her away.
"Anyways, this singer guy, Jennifer says he's extra salty, so." The Lesnicki girl shrugged slightly.
"Salty?" Chip asked, obviously confused by the lingo.
"Salty means beautiful." Needy responded, looking at Cora before turning to her boyfriend with a smile.
The red head noticed it and took in a deep breath before listening to the rest of the conversation.
"Well, then you must be soy sauce, babe." Chip replied, making the girl want to throw up.
"Okay, i'm just going to go downstairs." She awkwardly got up, grabbing her jacket upon feeling like she was intruding in a way. Then, she left the room and barreled down the stairs, only to see Jennifer coming in the front door.
"Hey, Cora." Jen grinned, biting her bottom lip softly. "Looking salty tonight."
"Don't I look salty every night?" The Amato girl quipped, raising a slight brow.
"True." Jennifer stepped closer, making the space between them almost non existent. "I think I need a kiss for good luck tonight."
"You can get a kiss from Mr. Low Shoulder." Cora replied back simply, her eyes shifting to the other girls lips every few seconds.
"Is that what you actually want?" The Check girl pushed the hair on the red heads shoulders behind her ear, staring directly into her eyes.
"Yes." The Amato girl nodded, knowing she had to stay firm in her position. She wasn't going to be snuck around while the girl still dated guys.
It just wasn't her.
"Fine." Jennifer sighed before looking up towards the steps. "Needy! Quit tampooning yourself and get down here!"
Cora sighed as she leaned against the wall, the Check girl leaning on the other side as Needy and Chip came down the steps.
"Guess who's got the whip until eleven thirty." Jennifer held up her keys. "A 2003 Chrysler Sebring, and it's all mine. Oh, hi Chip. It smells like Thai food in here, have you two been fucking? Poor Cora, were you feeling lonely?"
"You're gross!" Needy quickly grabbed the girls hand with a laugh, shaking her head.
The two went back and forth saying it over and over until Jennifer finally pushed the Lesnicki girl against the door.
"Fuck you." She said with a laugh, "let's go to the club."
The Check girl was the first to go outside, Chip following after her and Cora not far behind.
"Melody lane is not a club, it's a bar. In fact, it's not even a bar, it's like a bingo hall with taps." The boy judged, everyone now standing on the front porch.
"Do you guys have to argue every time you cross paths?" Cora asked, rolling her eyes slightly.
"Eat my ass, Chip." Jennifer retorted as she grabbed onto the red heads arm, hooking it with her own. "You're just jell-o cause you're not invited."
The girls started walking down the steps, Needy's boyfriend still not having enough of the conversation.
"I'm not jealous, that place is disgusting, everyone in there has a mustache." The boy said, making Jen and Cora roll their eyes.
"You're totally Jell-o, you're lime-green Jell-o and you can't even admit it to yourself." The argument stopped after that, Chip not knowing how to rebuttal.
"Stop kidnapping my girlfriend!" He yelled after them.
"Not happening!" The Amato girl yelled back.
"In your dreams!"
