chapter six

Revival

Cora's body was shivering as she sat up in place. She smelled the air, the faint scent of dirt and leaves coating her nose. The girl let in all the air she could, savoring every single moment of it, she thought she was dead, and now she wasn't.

Was it all a dream?

"Jen? Needs? Are you guys there?" The Amato girl called out helplessly, wiping a few tears away from her face as she stood up on her feet, the breeze in the air making her even more cold.

Where the fuck were her clothes?

Tiny little branches and rocks scratched the red heads feet as she continued to walk, the girl managing to make it next to the road. She stayed in the woodsy area, not wanting to get caught naked in the middle of the night, she had already dealt with enough creeps to last her a lifetime. She looked down towards her hands, the entirety of them covered in some form of black soot.

The girl blew a short breath, the residue falling away quickly leaving her puzzled. She remembered the bar, she remembered low shoulder, she even remembered being savagely stabbed until she couldn't breathe anymore. What the girl couldn't remember was, how the hell she ended up in the woods.

"It's fucking freezing." The girl mumbled lightly to herself, folding her arms against her chest as she sped up, realizing she wasn't too far from her own home.

She reached the side of her house fairly quickly, letting out a sigh of relief as she looked around and noticed no lights were on in the neighborhood. It must've been late considering where she lived was the part of town that people blasted music till the late hours of night and all. Then she realized it, all those people were probably caught in the fire.

The girl groaned upon hitting the soft floor of her bedroom, thanking god she had opted to get that fuzzy black carpet she had wanted since her alternative phase came around when she was thirteen. She always says phase because that's what her mother called it, the old hag even called being lesbian a phase, said all girls go through it. Her father never really commented on it though.

Shit, Frank.

As quick as she could, Cora brought together a t-shirt and sleeping pants, putting them on before walking towards her door. The house was all too quiet, and she didn't like it. There was no way in hell her father just decided not to party, it wasn't him.

"Frank? Frank, where are you!" She yelled loudly, running down the steps to his usual spot on the couch.

He hadn't touched his bedroom since her mom passed.

"There you are." Cora let out a sigh of relief upon seeing her father on the couch, no drink in sight as something played on the tv. "You had me worried, none of your friends—"

"You're alive." Frank breathed out heavily, the girl almost swearing she could see a tear in the mans eye. "I thought you were dead, they said everyone at Melody Lane was gone, and I—... you're okay."

The Amato girl couldn't even comprehend her fathers worry. Sure, in the past there were times when he cared about her well being but, not like this, and not for a very long time. It was almost like... love? If that was even a possibility coming from him.

"I got out safe, as safe as I could I mean. I guess I was just confused with all the smoke and stuff and I eventually just found my way home." The girl lied, what else would she tell him?

Hey, dad. I just got murdered by a group of psychos and then came back to life. No, that was too unbelievable, even for them.

"That's good, honey." Frank lightly rubbed his eyes. "Do me a favor, will you? Dump those bottles all out in the sink?"

He gestured toward where a line of alcohol sat, ranging from Tequila to Rum and everything in between. Cora smiled to herself as she nodded her head, realizing that Melody Lane burning must have been a wake up call for the man. She didn't smell alcohol on him, didn't see the house in a tattered mess. It was just a house, like she had always wanted.

"Sure, dad."

Cora's body lifted up from the place she had taken on the floor next to her father who had fallen asleep on the couch. They were watching horror movies the whole night, and it was just nice to relax with the man. However, the Amato girl had no idea why her body was pulling her to wake up.

She let her feet take her, not even stopping to put on shoes as the girl exited her home. She scrunched up her feet when feeling glass pierce through her skin but never once stopped to pay it any mind. The red head was not in control of her body, not one bit.

... but she wasn't sure of who was.

Cora ended up continuing on past where she had woken up, a few drops of blood trailing in towards the woods. She put her hand to it, a sudden warmth surrounding her as she somehow dried up the blood from the ground. Once it was over, the girl pushed herself upward, heading straight into the woods where she felt what she was looking for would be.

A single tear trickled down her cheek as she seen Ahmet, the foreign exchange student laying on the ground, completely dead, torn apart, actually. The red head bent her knees, picking his body up with a strength she didn't even know that she possessed. It was like she was a whole new person, and the girl couldn't understand it.

As if she had done this before, the Amato girl lightly closed her eyes, not being able to see a single thing but darkness around her. She felt her skin burn up, like she had some unusual fever but, it didn't hurt? No, it didn't hurt at all.

Once the girl opened her eyes, Ahmet's body had vanished into thin air, along with any other trace that he had somehow survived the fire at Melody lane.

Cora's eyes went blank after that, staring up toward the night sky that was shining over her. She had forgotten why she was out here, or how she got here, or who she had just burned in the first place. She had done her job, and that was all that was needed of her.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

The red head flipped open her phone and held it carefully to her ear, furrowing her brows as she seen the woods around her, yet again.

"Hello?" She asked, tilting her head to the side as she started to walk back up towards the road, scared out of her mind.

"Cora, I need you."

Cora slowly pushed open the front door of Needy's home open, not knowing what to expect upon coming inside. Over the phone, the blonde's words were scattered, unintelligible, and that worried her friend beyond belief. The red head just wanted this night from hell to be over but, it was still around two hours before the sun was set to rise.

"Needs, are you in here?" The Amato girl shut the door behind her, slowly and carefully making her way from the front door to the kitchen.

"Y-yeah." The Lesnicki girl managed to stutter out, her silent sobs making the girl walk faster, finally coming to a stop at the entrance of the kitchen that was covered in some dark goop disaster.

"Care to tell me what the hell happened in here?" Cora asked, brows furrowed as she watched the blonde scrub, and scrub, and scrub.

"It was Jennifer, she came, and she was acting weird and then... and then—... how am I going to get this out of the linoleum?" Tears continued to trickle down the girls face before the Amato girl gave in, not caring that her bare feet would get dirty as she walked through the muck, making her way to the blonde.

She lowered herself to the girls level, her knees hitting the floor as she placed her hands carefully on the girls face.

"I'm going to help you clean up, okay? It's going to be alright." Cora smiled faintly, not wanting the blonde to be stressed, scared, or worried, she just needed her to be calm, she needed something to be normal.

"Okay." The Lesnicki girl answered, her head nodding slightly.

"Let's get this shit out of the floors." The Amato girl placed a soft kiss on Needy's forehead, both of them looking carefully into each others eyes for a few moments.

This was probably the longest night of their lives.
