Two- The Academy
Garroth's POV
I woke up on Sunday and got dressed in the bathroom. I went back into the main room to see Aphmau just collecting her clothes to change into.
"Morning, Shorty." I grinned at her.
"Morning, Helmet Head." She grinned back, then went into the bathroom. I sat on my bed and put on my shoes.
Aphmau came out, quickly tied her tennishoes, then we left. "How about we explore the Academy?" She asked me.
I nodded. "Sounds good." We quickly ate breakfast then went around the whole Academy.
The dormitory was a four story high building. Rooms 1-100 were on F1 (floor one), rooms 101-200 were on F2 (floor two), rooms 201-300 were on F3 (floor three), and rooms 301-400 were on F4 (floor four). Aphmau and I were in room 307, so we got the top floor.
Behind the dorms there was the armory, which was full of armor and swords and all other sorts of weapons. Obviously. That's what an armory is supposed to have.
The mess hall was in the main building, in front of the dorms, which also held the staff offices and quarters, and the classrooms for indoor classes.
Indoor classes were things such as Guard History, getting to know your weapon, weapon crafting, and there was an indoor gym for outside classes if the weather was too bad.
Bad weather wasn't rain, but if there was lightning freakishly close to the Academy, or too much snow or something, we'd go inside. A guard needs to be able to fight in any situation, even if hail the size of a ball was falling on our heads.
Outdoor classes were basically things like Physical Education, using your weapons, sparring, etc.
There was a detention center on the far side of the Academy, where you go and get jobs to do or something if you were given a detention.
There was also a hill on the opposite side of the Academy, which held cannons. We'd learn how to fire those later, like our second year at the Academy.
"This seems like it's gonna be a good three years." Aphmau remarked as we finished up our complete tour of the Academy, after dinner.
"It does, truly it does." I agreed. We returned to our room and changed into our pajamas (as in Aphmau used the bathroom and I changed in the corner), then we went to bed.
"Night, Garroth." Aphmau murmured sleepily.
"Goodnight, Aphmau." I replied, closing my eyes.
The next day, Monday, we were woken up at five am by the bell.
"Oh Irene we're gonna have to get used to that." I groaned, rolling out of bed.
Aphmau was already up and dressed. "Speak for yourself. Nahakra is so much bigger than Moonlight- we could've been crushed in a matter of days if they so intended. As it is, they attacked constantly, even if it was barely any of their guards there were still more than us. I've been getting up at four since the war with them started, when I was seven."
I wrinkled my nose. "That must've sucked."
"It did." Aphmau agreed. "But I'm used to it now and at least this way I'm able to keep up with people here. Now get dressed, I think we have only a half hour to go down and get breakfast or you have to wait till lunch."
I nodded and got dressed in the bathroom, splashed water on my face to wake myself up, and the the two of us left the room.
Down at the mess hall, we had to quickly eat breakfast, and they handed out our schedules.
Our classes of the day were Physical Education, Guard History, Getting to Know Your Weapon, lunch, weapon practice, weapon crafting, then dinner.
"Sounds like today's going to be fairly interesting." I commented as we headed to the fields for Phys Ed.
"Yup. Looks like the entire week for this year is fairly interesting." Aphmau pointed out.
"Probably won't be in a few months." I shrugged.
"Which at that point we get new schedules, so that we can continue to excel where we do, and work on what we aren't so good in." Aphmau shrugged. "It'll change a bit, so it'll stay interesting."
"Touché." I nodded.
At the field, our instructor didn't say anything to us, just yelled, "Four laps around the track! Go!"
Aphmau and I glanced at each other and began running with the rest of the people in our class.
When we finished, we were all out of breath but he didn't let us have a break. "Fifty push-ups!" He yelled.
"This guy is intense." Aphmau muttered to me as we did our push-ups.
"Yeah. I suppose this'll get us in shape though." I muttered back.
"Fifty sit-ups!" The instructor yelled when we were done with the push-ups. Some people groaned. "Do you want a hundred?" He asked.
"No!" Everyone yelled.
"Then do your fifty sit-ups and don't complain!" The instructor shouted.
When we finished the sit-ups, the bell rang to go to our next class. All of us headed to History, where the teacher there saw us, sweaty and out of breath, and took pity on us.
"Go to the mess hall, get a drink of water and come back." She shook her head. "That man starting you newbies off on such a harsh level." We all gratefully got some water from the mess hall and returned to History.
"Now in this class you will be taught about how guarding developed through the years, starting nine hundred years ago when Lady Irene created the village/lord system and Xavier first opened the Guard Academy." The history teacher began.
Then she went on to tell us what she expected from our class, which took the entire time, and then she told us she'd see us Thursday, the next day we had that class.
"Good Lord, I knew this place was strict but seriously." Aphmau said as we made our way GKYW, which is the abbreviation I made up for our next class.
