Chapter Two
The day was perfect. The sun was bright enough to keep the flowers bright and beautiful but not harsh enough to make them faint or wither. The wind was blowing gently, so gently it was almost imperceptible. Over a hundred species of flowers in the garden and only five species had political aspirations. The aquatic flowers sent word through the bees saying the won't make it to the elections. The candidates were presented, each the prettiest of its kind. There was Sunny the Sunflower, Hyde the Hydrangea, Rose the Rose, Dice the Dicentra and Thorny the Thornbush. Thorny was first to address the flowers, " I am honoured to stand before you today as your potential king. My species didn't officially receive an invite to this party but we assumed it was lost in communication, I know how careless the bees are. That didn't stop us from showing up because we know, I know, that I am the most suitable candidate for leadership. I will be strict and firm with the land and its inhabitants, ensuring discipline and loyalty. I will protect the garden from invaders, both human and plant. I don't need any weapons. I, covered in thorns, am a weapon. "
Next up was Dice. "Good morning fellow flowers, weeds, bees, butterflies and others. I find myself an excellent choice for this position. Leadership is not only a political, social and territorial matter, it is also an emotional matter. As a bleeding heart myself, I promise to give a keen ear to all your problems, especially emotional problems, and to find lasting solutions. I am not the prettiest or the most powerful but with your votes, I could be both."
Hyde was next in line. A true beauty, stunning the garden into silence. "Oh...the pride of Glamoria. I see a garden that is ready to expand and take over the territories surrounding it. We are destined for bigger better brighter things. With me as commander in chief, there no feat that we won't accomplish. Every battle will be won. We will survive every drought, our old and young will be protected from all dangers. We will build an army of thousands. I, Hyde will bring you that and more if you vote for me."
The fourth candidate was Rosé the Rose. She was a very pretty sight. "The garden of Glamoria is ours, not mine, not yours, ours. It needs a queen worthy of it. A queen who is royalty. One who seeks the good of everyone. One who knows the weight of power and how to wield it. Any flower can be beautiful, any flower can be powerful but a power filled beauty is a rare sight. I'm the perfect mix of petals and thorns. Glamoria doesn't need a queen like me. Glamoria needs me."
Sunny was last, the sun had gotten brighter and she was looking bold and cheerful. " I had a lot of great things to promise you today but after listening to her, I realized that she'll be a better queen than I will be. Glamoria deserves the best leadership so I'm casting the first vote, 'I vote Rosé the Rose as queen'".
There was a brief moment of chaos, then the flowers went on to cast the votes.
Who do you think deserves to be ruler of the garden and why?
