🌸Interview(8): Rocky's Big City Adventure

Hello everyone!🌹

I welcome you all to another amazing interview with the talented RCorsini

She is the author of the multi-award winning book "Sushis and Sea Lions". I'm not sure if the term Multi-Award even exists, but that book has gotten the highest number of awards I have ever seen here on Wattpad.💐

Damn.. I can't even begin to imagine bagging so much awards 😍.

In celebration for the amount of awards bagged by our guest, let's all have a happy dance!💃 hit the music Sophie!

Anyway, Sushis and Sea Lions isn't our focus for today. 😜

In the spirit of Christmas, Our focus today is a short Christmas tale written by the same amazing writer titled, " Rocky's Big City Adventure" 🏙🏔🏙

Before, I start talking too much and spoil the story for everyone, do tell the audience what the plot of this story is.

R: Rocky's Big City Adventure is really about being a fish out of water and what happens when you take someone, or something, out of their natural environment. It's a journey to find their way back to their home.

Li: Where did you get the inspiration for this story?

R: My inspiration was actually the true story of the owl that was found in the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. I just thought, what was that like for this little Owl? That's how it became a story from Rocky and her friend Sly's point of view.

Li: Hmm, but why did you decide to use a Christmas theme or set the story to happen around the Christmas period?

R: The Christmas theme came naturally. Since it was all centered around Christmas time, especially the inspiration. I also think New York city has a little bit of magic at Christmas and I wanted to share that with my audience as well.

LiI know you said you got your inspiration from the true story of the owl in the Rockefeller center Christmas tree, but why did you decide to use animals as characters?

R: I know it was a little strange to use animals but I had so much fun doing it.
If the characters were human, it would be an entirely different story!

Li: How different would it have been?

R: It might have been more about the rescue effort, instead of the journey and unlikely friendship that forms.

Li: Talking about friendship, I think Sly and Rocky's friendship is really inspiring. Given Rocky's stubbornness, Sly didn't give up on her. He protected her unconditionally. It's a sort of friendship that is fast becoming rare among humans. Don't you think?

R: I agree, they are extremely loyal to each other through out the whole story. I think, I used it as a vehicle to show the importance of true friendship, even though everyone has their differences.

Li: Yeah, I think you portrayed that exceptionally well.

So what was your favourite scene to write in the story?

R: My favourite scene to write had to be Sly and Rocky meeting Trash. It's just too funny the way he casually eats potato chips. Trash is very much a city raccoon. I really enjoyed that.

Li: Trash really is a funny character.
Why did you make Hotdogs his favourite meal in the city though?😏

R: Street hot dogs are a staple in New York city and I just thought it would be pretty funny if Trash liked to break into hot dog carts for dinner. It kind of brought out the tone of New York city and a bit of Trash's personality.

Li: Wait a minute, I'm not buying your explanation. Do you love hotdogs? Or do you love hotdogs?😁🤔

R: I do love hot dogs!😃
The best ones are Nathan's, Coney Island. I have no idea why they're so good, but man. . . they are delicious!😂😂

Li: Shout out to Nathan then!😂 for making the best Hot dogs in New York City!

Still on Trash, why did he have to break into the carts? He could have searched in the wastes but no, he goes on to just pick the locks! Can that even happen in real life?

Sophie: ◀⏩▶(playing the National  G. E. I News Channel)

Breaking News: A raccoon picks the lock of a Hotdog cart and the owner files a case against it!

Breaking News: A bandit Raccoon terrorises the city's Hotdog sellers!

😂😂😂😂

R: HA! It is hilarious that he does that. No way could that ever happen in real life. They're animals but also have some human characteristics to them.
Trash would definitely be like one of those Brooklyn wise guys, you know? LOL.

Li: That's exactly how I pictured him. If he was human of course. LOL

R: Oh completely, if he was human, he'd wear a three piece suit and smoke cigars. 😂

Li: He'd probably wear a hat too, 😂

Okay, enough about Trash. Let's talk about Queenie. I really loved her personality.

What did Trash do for her that made her feel indebted to him?

R: HA! Weirdly enough, I have no idea!😂 I just know there was some sort of favor that was owned.

I like to think this of Queenie. . . she is a queen of her own territory. She reflects her personality. The stray cats in the area all answer to her, LOL. I just couldn't resist it😂

Li: Queenie really is a queen😂 and Trash is lucky to have such an influential animal by its side😜

Okay, the scene where Rocky actually ate King was suppose to be gruesome but you made it quite funny. How did you manage to do that?

And yes people we have a Queen and a King in this story, you just have to check it out for yourselves😜

R: HA! I didn't want it to be gruesome. It's a light hearted short story. I wanted it to be accessible to kids, young adults and everyone in general.
About that scene, Rocky is an Owl, they eat rodents, so it totally makes sense that she eats him. I'm glad it came across as funny because I didn't want it to be scary at all.

Li: I think every child or adult can read this story, the execution and delivery was just perfect.

What was your least favourite scene to write, though?

R: Thank you so much!❤
So the scene I didn't enjoy writing was actually when Rocky takes out King. It was kind of mean, even though, it is the natural order of things. That's why I think it's kind of funny. I wanted everyone to love her.

Li: Yeah, I also thought I should feel bad for King or maybe hate Rocky, but I think that scene made me like her even more. BAD GUYS SHOULD BE EATEN! ALL OF THEM!😈😈

R: I agree! TAKE THEM ALL OUT!😂

Li: Now, let me ask a more personal question, your books are always well written and beautiful.
As someone who is into the profession, do you sometimes feel pressured to maintain that 'bar' you've set for yourself?

R: Thank you for the compliment!
I do feel pressure to keep up to the standard, pressure to keep improving and also pushing myself.
This is the first time I'm writing a short story like this, ever. I've never used animals as characters. Though, I do base my work off of true stories, or life experiences, so that is similar.

Li: Waoh, I can only imagine but I guess it all pays off in the end. Let's look at Sushis and Sea Lions for instance, it's doing so well, SOO MANY AWARDS🙀 how do you feel about those awards anyway?

R: Oh, Sushis awards are like this insane mind boggling thing. I never thought in a million years when entering them that the book would win.

I really started doing it cause as I read about Wattpad, I realised mature rated books don't come up easy in the search and don't get official rankings.

I was like, okay, how do I get this story out there? That's when I found awards and book clubs. So I tried it! I honestly don't believe it sometimes that people like the story or they even love it. It really blows my mind.

Li: Waoh! Okay people incase you didn't realise it, my guest just shared some amazing tips to getting recognised here on Wattpad. Let me do a recap;
•Enter Awards
•Join Book Clubs
Don't keep your baby to yourself, join communities and share your story. You never know, it might just bag an award or not😈

Sophie: Lilly you are suppose to be motivating people!😯

They are motivated!
GET YOUR BOOK OUT!

We are fast approaching the end, do you want to give a shout out to anybody?

R: I do have some shout outs to give!
shout out to Passmetheadobo, you guys can check out their work in webtoon.

Shout out to AliasTummas1, SunshineBandito, sonjaebersole and @nykkeebee, they are so supportive and amazing.

Li: What book do you recommend I interview?

R: I recommend "Charlotte Wynthorpe and the case of the disappearing Diamonds" by Di_Rossi

It's so good! The historical context is excellent, the characters are fantastic, the mystery is crafted well and it can be read in one sitting.

Li: Finally, before we say goodbye, what do you love about Christmas?

R: I love Christmas! I think it's such a magical time. I love wrapping presents, decorating and making cookies. I love Christmas morning and having a pancake breakfast. It's just such a nice time of the year. I also really love winter in general.

LiWell, I basically just love Christmas because, I get to stay at home all day and sleep as much as I want😝😜

Thank you so much for doing this with me. You are amazing!

R: Thank you so much! This was so much fun and I'm really glad you liked Rocky's story.

Li: ❤❤❤❤
I'm so excited, Sophie, hit the music again!😝
