🌸Interview(42): The Race
It is another day in the Garden of Eden Interviews and today I have just one guest 😁😁😊😊 but she is very special too.
Ladies and gentlemen, join me and appreciate;
Author of our focus today, "The Race"
🏁______🏁
The race is almost like a twisted version of the hunger games happening in the 21st century.
A group of girls and boys selected randomly around the world, battle against one another in a reality game which involves collecting clues around the world, hoping to be rewarded handsomely.
In their journey, anyone can die. . .
🏁_______🏁
Li: What inspired this thrilling tale?
MC: Well it's a bit of a long story. Basically, my friend and I came up with the idea one year ago.
Li: Oh really?
MC: Yea, we wrote the first four chapters but then we stopped.
A month ago, I kept thinking about the idea all the time!
I didn't know why, but I thought about it for a month. Then I decided I would rewrite the entire thing.
I changed a lot of the storyline and made it more about the girls' team but it was still super close to what we came up with a year ago.
Li: Waoh that's some history😁 okay moving on, how did you cope with seven major characters?
I know most of the time it was either Harper, Cami or Naomi's point of view but the rest still stood out, how did you manage them?
MC: Honestly, I can't write from just one character's point of view. I find it to be stiff and a bit boring on my part.
I have always written stories from atleast two people's perspectives.
At first, it was really bad and all the characters seem to mash together to make one boring character with a zillion different personalities, but now it has become easier.
Li: I understand the aspect of writing in just one perspective, it is truly boring and limited.
But tell me how do you manage to switch from one character to the next without blending or mixing them up?
MC: I like to create word clouds that list all their personality, it helps a lot.
Li: Ah I see. Okay on a more lighter note, why did you make your characters 18 years old? *I call that the cursed age😂*
MC: I felt like sixteen was too young to be travelling and being part of such an intense competition.
And I also felt like twenty was too old.
Eighteen was the perfect balance.
It's definitely a cursed age, but what the heck!😂😂
Li: Yeah, what the heck! They are already cursed😂
Now, why did you have to kill one of them?
Sophie: ❌❌❌❌❌
Li: I thought you were on hiatus, Sophie!🙄 getat!
Moon cloud, they were doing so well, despite all their differences😔😫😩 she was very bitchy but she grew on me😫 why did she have to die😭😭😭
Sophie: Lilly this is so unprofessional!🙄
❌❌❌❌❌
Li: 😭😭not fair!
MC: I felt like It would have been too realistic and easy if one of them didn't die (sorry not sorry)😂😂😂
Li: Noooo!😭😭😭
MC: I mean, it is the Race after all!
I was also going through my own loss at the time, so writing her loss from Cami's point of view was a way to vent my own feelings.
Li: Awwww, I am sorry for your loss and now I understand. Apology accepted😁
Which of the characters is your favourite?
I love Asia and Harper😍😍
MC: Honestly, I can't choose a favorite. I love them all!
Cami was relatable.
Harper made me laugh.
Naomi was a mood.
Asia was cute.
Aralee cheered me up
Maybelle's confidence (if not stubbornness😁) rubbed off on me.
Lark was a bit underdeveloped in the story but she relaxed me. I developed her more in the word cloud I made for her, but I never got to use some sides of her in the book.
Li: Hmmm, so which of them did you relate with more?
MC: The character I related to the most is Cami for a number of reasons, and it's probably why most chapters are told from her point of view.
Li: Argh!😁
MC: What?🤔
Li: Cami is your favourite then💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
MC: 😂😂😂
Li: Tell me about the boys team. You talked about Blex and Kaikara more, what was their team like? Did they get along like the girls?
I know they had an hacker too but did their profession match with the girls'?
MC: Well. . .they weren't as good as the girls, I can tell you that🤓.
But they had some serious skills too!
Kaikara was from Uganda, a doctor and chosen to be a pickpocket/burglar.
Archie was from Australia, a Ninja Warrior and chosen to be a heavy lifter.
Carter was from the USA, a baker and chosen to be the distraction.
Blex was from Canada, a surfer and chosen to be long range weapon user.
Anson was from China, he was part of the army and chosen to be a hacker.
Lukas was from Russia, a wrestler and chosen to be a close range combatant.
Rowan was from Italy, a singer and chosen to be a blades master.
They didn't really get to talk to the girls a lot, but who knows, maybe they met up later in life!☺️
Li: Hmmmm I smell a second book cooking😃
All these boys with cute cute names 🥰🥰 who was your favourite on the boys team?
MC: Definitely Blex.
Li: Ah! I see you have a thing for hot Canadians!☺️☺️
Now on a more serious note, could you refuse to be a part of the race?
I know you mentioned if you refuse you die but why not sue them or get your parents involved?
MC: You could refuse, but the government would probably kill you and then replace you. If your family got involved, they would die too.
Li: Oh my Gawd! That's horrible!!😱 thank God this is just a story!
Permit me to take you a couple of steps back, you said in the book that they had personal training time and group training, how did that work?
According to the story, they had so little time. I'm guessing it couldn't have been one person per day. . 🤔
MC: I kinda skimmed that part since it wasn't as important, but here are the basics: each girl got a part of the day to train.
For example, person A could start at 3:00 and end at 5:00. So person B could come at 5:00 and train till 7:00.
Li: Hmmm I see.
So what did you learn, in the course of writing this story?
MC: I learned more on writing about more characters than three or five.
Usually, three and five are my magic numbers, but writing about seven girls was fun and totally worth it.
Li: That's awesome!
