🌸Interview(25): Between The Redwoods
Hey hey! It's your girl Lilly and today, I'm going to be interviewing the lovely Sydneycl2050 on her book, "Between The Redwoods"
For the sake of my audience, what is 'Between the redwoods' really about?
Sy: Okay, Awesome! It's a story about forgiveness and how our pasts sometimes affects our future.
Beatrice is a grieving widow who's still mourning her husband.
Then we meet a convict, 1153, who's in prison and working on an escape plan.
When the two likely characters meet, it's a really explosive and exciting situation, because they are so different....
Li: Waoh, love between a convict and a grieving woman, it's truly awesome and well thought out.
Sy: Aww😊, thanks
Li: The intensity you created was great!🤗
So, why did you decide on that title, 'Between the Redwoods'?
Sy: It's set in Colorado and in Colorado, is a fossil redwood forest. . .
I think it gave the story an interesting take, because it's about secrets that are buried.
Li: Is that what between the Redwoods mean, 'Secrets that are buried'?
Sy: Yeah, that's the meaning of between the redwoods. A lot of people have asked what it means, so I'm glad that I'm finally able to explain it😄
Li: The title and the cover, actually intrigued me a lot. I thought it was going to be a fantasy tale or something about werewolves, but then I got the surprise of a life time!😁
Sy: 😂 I get that a lot. . .
I love my cover but I'm wondering if I need another one to really convey the story.
Li: If you ask me, I think the intrigue and suspenseful nature of the cover helps in drawing in more readers.
Sy: Yeah, maybe I'll probably keep it for a while😂😂
I'm so bipolar with covers😂😂
Li: 😂😂
So, who is your favourite Character?
Sy: Ugh🤔... that's so hard to choose. I love my main character Berdie. She's got a quick personality and I think we see the sad part of her, but if you could imagine her fun and happy side, she would be even more amazing.
Secondly- can I have more than one, Lilly?
Li: Hmmm technically no, but since you are so excited and I'm an angel😇, go ahead. . .😉
Sy: 😁 Secondly there is Al. He doesn't have a major role in the book but he's 1153's jail mate and I had the most fun writing him. I mean, I would be typing and laughing at the same time because he's hilarious.
Also I can't forget 1153 and Wyatt, they are both amazing characters.
Wyatt's love for Berdie is so touching while 1153's quiet passion is the best. He's someone you'd love a relationship with. . .
And yeah, I basically love all of them😂😂😂
Li: The only people missing should be her parents, her sister and the children. You literally love all your characters😂😂 the entire book!😂
Sy: It's so hard to choose😥
Li: 😂 Anyway, for this next question, I don't want you saying you love every single action in the book because then we're gonna have a problem😂😂😂😂
Sy: 😂😂 okay.
Li: Good, so what is or was your favourite scene in the book?
Sy: 😂I think my favourite scene is the chapter 'House for sale, not for Sale!'.
Li: Why do you love that scene the most?
Sy: Because that's when we see the two stories collide. . . We've been on this crazy journey with both of them and then we see that the story's just beginning. . .
But, I have so many favourites.. .
Li: Sydney. . .No! No more!😂😂
Sy: Lilly it's also hard to choose😣. . .it's like choosing between your kids. . . that's so hard!😫
Li: 😂😂😂😂 see me see 'wahala'. . .
Sydney darling, do you have kids?
Sy: No, I don't have any but I can imagine how hard it would be to choose between them. That's what you are making me do! It hurts😫
Li: 😂😂 Okay, I know that's hard.
Someone would probably burn the house down, if my daddy mentioned who he loved the most in my house😂😂😂😂
Moving on, what scene proved difficult for you to complete?
Sy: Hmmn. . .I don't know. .
Probably the dating scenes between Beatrice and Wyatt. . . I don't know why it was so hard to write them. . .
Li: 😁 before I ask further, are you in a relationship right now?
Sy: Oh. . . I'm not in a relationship😫
Li: Aisssh🤦🏽♀️ no worries, I'll get you one😁 I have a lot of bachelors in this garden!😍
If you were to date one of your cute characters though, who would it be?
Sy: Cool question.
I'd probably pick 1153.
Li: Uuhh🤪 why's that?
Sy: He's pretty deep down and I love how he treats Berdie.
Also, I love how his relationship with her doesn't change who he is as a man.
I love all that. . .I'll definitely date him😊
Li: Mauricettee get me 1153!👮
Mau: On it ma'am!
Sy: Huh, where is Red and Sophie?
Li: Those two?🧐
Pfff!. . . they're on probation🤨.
Moving on, do you think it's difficult to write male character's POVs?
Sy: Nope, I love doing both.
Li: Like writing the two genders?
Sy: Yep.
Li: A lot of female writers complain about effectively conveying a male characters emotions, because they are not male. How do you overcome that so confidently?
Sy: Well when I’m writing I like to think of it in psychological terms so it doesn’t feel like it’s me creating the situations or anything it feels like for that moment I kind of become that person. So for the moment it doesn’t matter that I’m a girl because I’m considering what he would do in terms of a guy and the psychology of his personality.
Li: What inspired this beautiful story of yours?
Sy: It's a story I've been writing for a couple of years and I get inspired usually by a number of odd things. . .but one of those things that stood out, was my parents relationship.
Li: Awww, so sweet.
What about your parents relationship inspired you?
Sy: Before they met, they were at the same hotel where there was a fire. They didn't meet then of course but what made it really amazing was that they were from totally different parts of the world.
So, to be there at the same time was really amazing.
It really made me love the concept that we've already met the people that'll change our lives forever. We might just not know it yet. . .
Li: Awww😍, your parents' story is equally beautiful and yeah I believe in that concept too. Most of us have already met their 'mates' but just haven't realised it yet. . .
Moving into the story
What is the message you want to pass to people who read it?
Sy: I think the message I want to convey is probably not to judge a book by it’s cover. Not to give any spoilers but sometimes the people we are most quick to judge can in the end really surprise us by being totally different than we expect,
Li: That's very true. . .
Now, in real life situations
Do you think the way Berdie handled the lost of her husband is the best?
Sy: Definitely not ...but I’ve seen a lot of people, sadly that handle things like the lost of a mate really badly...there’s not really a protocol or a handbook to guide you through things like this though.
Li: It really was terrible the way she treated herself and I have to say your descriptions of her body and actions were quite funny and true.
I think you executed it perfectly well.
Sy: Yes, she’s kind of a quirky personality lol... Thank you❤
Li: The fact that she washes her muddy legs in the kitchen zinc is crazy😂
What's the best time for you to write? Do you have a schedule?
Sy: Yes,😂 lol
I do have a schedule, writing in the morning is the best time. I have a big family so that’s kinda the only quiet time I have.
Li: Well, what plans or hopes do you have for being a writer on Wattpad?
Sy: Well this week I actually am going to be releasing the final chapter in Between the Redwoods. And I’m working on my next project a book called "Grass Stains".
I hope to get to 10k reads on Wattpad😁 and then hopefully some time later this year I hope to published "Between the Redwoods".
Wattpad has really been an essential part in realizing that dream. Every time I get more reads or comments I feel like it’s a motivation for me to keep writing !
Li: Awwwww
That's so sweet❤
I really hope you achieve all these and more.
Okay now we are down to the fun questions!
Sy: Aww thxs ❤❤
Li: Ice cream and Creamed coffee?
What would you pick?😁
Sy: Haha cool question hmmm probably ice cream. Vegan ice cream though, lol😂😂
Li: Pizza and French fries for a life time, pick one?
Sy: This one is easy pizza I’m not actually a fry person...I wouldn’t eat potatoes when I was a kid...
Li: Lol😂
Oooh okay!
Now one of your readers, SunshineBandito, Asked a question
She said, 'What connection to Berdie does Owen have?
Sy: Oh cool...well you’re gonna have to read it to see.
But one thing I will say is kind of a philosophy I live by. And that is, "Most of us have already met the person that is going to impact our lives".
We may not know it yet but we’ve already met so...keep that in mind SunshineBandito as you read it😘
Li: Lol
I knew you weren't going to spill lol😄,
Sy: Never! lol😂😂
Li: Sorry Sunshine, this author is a tough one!❤
That's the last question, but before you go, I want you to recommend a book for us in the shop. It has become a tradition✌
Sy: Ok awesome, firstly thanks, this has been super fun...Ummm I think "Rectifying Oblivion" by H_Speaks1 it’s awesome!
Li: Also give a shout out to your Wattpad friends and readers!
Li: Thank you so much for putting up with me and my swaying connection🙊
Sy: No problem, it was fun😊
