I am referring to the one and only FikkieAdeniyi, author of our focus, 'Once Upon a Midnight'.

What inspired your story Hotshot😊?

Fi: After my WAEC, I spent a lot of time reading about world history and mythologies. I observed various magic systems and mythical creatures, and I wanted a world where I can successfully merge all these together.

Some writers focus on a certain culture and set of mythical creatures when writing fantasy stories... But I wanted more. I wanted to include everything 'includable', but in a way that it would still make sense.

Li: Yeah I noticed how you incorporated some Nigerian artifacts into the story, greatly done!

Fi: Yes. Spoiler alert, more Nigerian sorcery will be shown in book 2 😹💔

Li: 😃 That would be awesome!

Why did you settle for the title, 'Once Upon a Midnight'?

Fi: Hmm... The title made sense in every way. Actually, I had the title before the plot and everything just kind of began to revolve around it. It was more of a subconscious thing.

So who was your favourite character?

Fi: I actually don't have any. But if I were to choose my most exciting character, it would be Tiakken. He was originally meant to be the main character and I developed him first. But, as the story evolved, I had to shift him away.

He is still my most exciting. After him would be Mikoto🎃

Li: Ooh Mikoto and Nicholas are actually my favourite😍

Li: I don't know what you are talking about😝

Li: There were so many amazing characters in your story, any one of them could have been the MC, but you chose Kim. Why?

Fi: Kim just sorta made herself the main character. You know how some people say that characters have minds of their own, that's kinda what happened.

Li: 😂😂😂 I totally get you.

This story of yours could've been told from all their perspective and still make lots of sense. But you gave us only Kim's opinion, why?

Fi: Ah, yes. I first wrote the story in 3rd person limited. That was the best way to write it, and it would've helped shed more light on the mysteries.

But... At that moment, I was terrible with POVs, so, I just stuck to 1st person which I had little knowledge about.

Li: Okay moving on, What was your favourite scene/moment?

Fi: **spoiler alert** my favourite scene would be when the shadow queen breaks free.
It's a scene I've had in my head since I wrote the first word of the story 😹💔

Li: Hmmm I can't wait to get to those parts, like. . .😝

Okay, what challenge(s) did you face when you were writing this story? Or as you are writing this story?

Fi: Let's see...🤔
I think the biggest problem was finishing the book.
Between work and school and exams and social media, writing wasn't a priority. So, getting my arse up to type was a problem.

Then, there was the English. The story is written in British English. At the moment I started writing the story, I wasn't good at British English or spellings. Thankfully, that isn't the case right now. In fact, British English is the only English I write in and speak now😹😹💔

Li: English can really be something sometimes😪

Okay, if you were to remove one character from your books, who would it be?

Fi: Ah😹😹💔... It would be Kim's brother o! Kendrick.
He isn't very important in book 1😹💔

Li: 😂True. He appeared like what, twice? PFF!😅

Which reminds me, why was he always scared of his mother's familiar?

Fi: 💔😹💔 All will be revealed in the second book. I'll tie all loose ends there.
